  1. Hardly worth the bother. COUNTLESS times I have seen a fare drop substantially for no apparent reason and yet on other occasions rise. Landing the rock-bottom fare is a game of chance methinks.
  2. Agreed. Methinks the future is higher fares and Airfare chaos and tight scheduling. Not long ago certain cruises were nearly $Free$, which made last-minute bookings very doable. Seems not so recently ie 2023.
  3. I would NEVER torture my grand-kid by putting him/her on a HAL ship. HAL is where old folks send their parents (and I am 75). Kids like roller-coasters, go-carts, water slides etc. I know I did 70/yrs ago.
  4. Still Great itineraries. $Cheap$ way to see the World. Less children methinks, who now flock to the Mega-ships that go round n round in warm water…
  5. Overbooking Airline seats, hotel rooms etc. can indeed be maddening. If it’s any consolation… it wouldn’t have been THAT much more interesting. But unfortunate nonetheless.
  6. Kibitzing about a HAL cruising experience Post-Covid can’t ignore a BIG issue, the competition is equally pinched. Methinks all cruiselines want to desperately get us aboard then $up-sell$ at every chance. OK, that’s fine by me, however, if we in fact move to a pricier line for a better experience we should be aware they are in similar straits. An old adage comes to mind: ‘This is a Non-profit operation. We didn’t plan it that way, it just happened.’ I will continue to cruise….
  7. Always tough when any Corp. has HUGE $Debt$. And CCL has huge huge HUGE debt. Creditors always call the shots. Mid-2023 and this talk of Recession is still just talk and it’s already no more Cashews at HappyHour... But when it hits… hoo-boy.
  8. Imagine the Corporate/Credit Card Co. and customer kerfuffle this will cause. I personally would do numerous RTW’s for 3/yrs. with a yearly assessing of my health. For that reason we like 30-60/day segments with all the options that affords.
  9. We’ve done Alaska ‘Round Trips’ with 1 line to avoid traipsing around with luggage etc. We’ve went all out for strenuous/physical land excursions and find more each cruise, so switching Lines mid-cruise would have served us no purpose.
  10. If there’s a recent change it’s probably because ‘Corporate’ thinks it’s a way to make a little more $$. But methinks they guess wrong on occasion.
  11. I have been on long cruises where the Cabanas up top were unused. None. Zero. Windy, isolated…
  12. JUNEAU: Perseverance Trail hike. Starts very close to downtown. 5/miles. Take a lunch. Very very nice. Wikersham House Museum. Quaint. Charming. Enjoy.
  13. Be a shame to get home and say, I coulda visited STONEHENGE.. but didn’t.
  14. It will be a quite short peek with no time for anything else. Better than all day at the Airport
  15. You would find HAL is certainly a close cousin to CUNARD but without the nice library nor C’s music about the ship.
  16. I agree. But HAL itineraries bring me back
  17. Methinks all cruiselines in general will HAVE to charge more for upgrades to basic food & services if they are to turn a profit. ‘Ship within a Ship’ can be done in various ways it appears. Interesting to hear how other lines do it.
  18. I actually like Cunard, now after watching the CEO Weinstein on TV today I am left wondering if HAL (or the entire fleet) may be sooner or later headed that way.
  19. Just wondering if it is a trend amongst CCL’s various cruiselines or if destine to remain only on Cunard..
  20. So… Shore Excursion folks commenting on their days ashore, either Pro or Con?? I would entertain cruising ‘round Africa but only if I could really get far afield at every stop. Any thoughts??
  21. Cunard’s QAnne brochure p.3 ‘…offers dedicated restaurants corresponding to her 4 accommodation categories.’ Does that mean what I think it means..??
  22. Agreed. Competitor’s PLUS Carnival’s number of berths available tells me it will be cuthroat out there for quite some time. NCL replaced Frank DelRio, CEO today.
  23. Accountant-speak:‘Going forward we are committed to using our expected cash-flow strength to repair the balance sheet over time, and we will be disciplined and rigorous in making new-build decisions accordingly.’ TRANSLATION: ‘We’ve been put on a Lo-Cal diet by our lenders.
  24. ‘Reshaped investment spending’…. Sounds like sumbuddy told CCL to go on a Slimfast diet. Here’s hoping I can look forward to sailing with a cruiseline rolling in the $dough$. That sounds more fun.
