Any reason for fewer NCL cruises from NYC?
Red-Sol replied to Red-Sol's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
FWIW we actually cracked 70 degrees here today...Unbelievable...but high winds and thunderstorms are on the way along with 1 to 3 inches of snow tomorrow night. -

OK I appreciate very much everyone's comments on this thread. It really seems like the longer Winter NYC cruises on NCL will not be coming back 😢 However it does seem like it is MSC to the rescue. 🙂 We are about 75% there to make a booking on the cruise @JIMESOPUS Jim is on and hopefully a few others here can join us on that one. Sounds like fun! -

If this keeps up I will need to make sure my lawn mower runs and put the snowblower away! -

Thanks Jim! That might be close to the timeframe we would be looking at so I will very much keep this one in mind. I really need to study more what they have and we made sapphire on our last cruise on the Getaway so it will be fun to see what they offer as a match. -

We have thought about it Jim...but we always come back to the fact that the bus drops us off right at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal...big advantage to not need to schlep any luggage around and/or get additional transportation from the train station. They are also doing MSC cruises out of Brooklyn now too. -

What we usually do is to drive to Albany the day before the cruise...spend the night in an area hotel...and hop on a Yankee Trails bus in the morning...arrive at the Manhattan Cruise terminal around 10:30 am and are usually boarding around 11:30 am works well for us. BTW Hi neighbor! 🙂 -

Bingo! The longer winter cruises out of NYC were the best! I "Kinda" got my fix on a 15 day Getaway cruise in November...but it wasn't quite the same. -

All I can say about that is Ugh! When and if they all do the same that will probably be the end of our cruising. (Unless Boston or possibly Baltimore can pickup the slack) I have 0 interest in flying to Florida. Frankly I have even less interest than that to actually be in Florida. 😉 -
I have mostly been totally away from CruiseCritic for many months so forgive me if this has been answered/discussed before. I really would rather cruise out of NYC than anywhere else for a number of different reasons. As I peruse cruises available out of NYC it really stands out to me that there are a lot fewer of them available than in the past. Anyone have any thoughts/answers/theories on why that might be? The only thing I can think of is that MSC might be taking away some of the demand....but that seems far fetched to me.

Off a 15 day cruise on Getaway in November. On the last night of the cruise my wife went down to medical after testing positive for Covid (I tested positive myself the next day but we were off the ship then) We took all of the typical precautions and were well aware of the risks but were determined to go anyways. The one thing I wasn't aware of was Medical insisting we take one of their covid tests for a measley $159.00 and a Paxlovid prescription would be well over a thousand. What?!?! We will be in NYC in the morning and I can get a doctor to prescribe it to me and it will be free. (And yes we had extended medical cruise insurance but I didn't feel like getting involved with everything that comes with making a claim again that would have only been for a few hours) All I can think of is NCL is trying now to cover some of their Covid losses through Covid prescriptions. And they said nothing to us as we left about isolating or anything else....they apparently didn't care.

What are they doing (if anything) in the Illusionarium?

We both enjoy the rocking as well. We did a cruise one time in an aft cabin which for some reason felt very smooth with little rocking while sailing. 2 days after we got home however we both felt very strong "phantom rocking" in our house. Needless to say it wasn't real but it sure felt like it was!

The question is if you "don't to pay all that much only to have to shatr" are you willing to pay more in order to shatr?

Yikes! This now means the possibility of someday meeting up with you Henry...On at least 2 (two) Dos cruiselines...Decisions Decisions! While looking at the itineraries currently out of Brooklyn are not super attractive I think I can be swayed if folks are finding a good experience on the ship itself. (possibly saving a few bucks might not hurt either! 🤣 )

Welcome Home Henry!...I have been sporadically on and off CruiseCritic as of late but so happy to have found your latest review. (Yours are always some of the best and this one didn't disappoint at all) Seems like this one was a little bit different type of adventure but as always you kept it real and interesting! Thanks!
