  1. My suggestions are aimed at the first-time cruiser in general. Our first cruise was a 5-day Canada cruise out of New York, just to see whether we would like cruising. (Okay, my signature kinda tells you what we thought:D)

    1. When you board the ship, take a tour of what the ship has to offer. You can do this on your own (there will be card-fold maps available in the lobby), or most ships offer a guided tour around 2:30 in the afternoon.

    2. Be on deck for sailaway. There's always an electric feeling, leaving the port behind. (For OP, Charleston is a great port.:))

    3. Don't try to do everything - you'll wear yourselves out. I think it took us three cruises on Carnival Victory (our first ship) before we found all of the lounges. And don't think you HAVE to do anything in particular - you don't have do do anything particular at all. My DH is very happy to get a chair, a book, and watch the sea go by. There's something for everyone. You can always catch up on some of the activities you missed on the next cruise.:D

And my suggestions are Ditto to above! Don't worry about any complaints you may read and just enjoy yourself. You will be hooked. I love the Fantasy as she is an older, smaller ship...a good one to start with. Let us know how you liked it when you get back.

  2. Although I have sailed on Carnival many times, I have not been on the Breeze. I have, however, been on the Oasis and if you can get that deal I'd go for it. The Oasis is like no ship I've ever been on. The quality of entertainment is worth the money you pay for your cabin.

Hopefully this link works...pictures of our Oasis cruise: th_MainPool.jpg

Just click on the picture to open up the album

Okay...not sure why you can't see all the photos...there are over 200. I'll keep working on this for you.

    Trying again for the whole album...<iframe width="480" height="360" src="http://s1336.photobucket.com/user/Terre52/embed/slideshow/Oasis%20of%20the%20Seas%20May%202013"></iframe>

  3. We'll be on the Liberty in January and I hope it's not the caps...neither of us wears caps/hats. I'm okay with a tote, but I have 500 totes in 100 different sizes and brands now, so the tumbler would be great.

  4. We have rented cars/jeeps in Cozumel before and driven around the island. The "back side" is nice and not commercalized, at least not the last time we drove around back! Last several years we have been going to Nachi Cocum for the day...I think it's around $50 pp and includes an appetizer, entree, and dessert, all the drinks you can drink, your own chairs and waiter for the day. We usually end up in the pool and hot tub all day. It's a nice relaxing day.

We've been somewhere called Paradise Beach (I think) that's inexpensive and we have been to Chankanaaub (sp?).

In Grand Cayman, we have walked around, took a tour to Hell and done stingray snorkeling several times.

Check the ports of call boards on these two places for more inexpensive excursions

  5. Does anyone have a picture of the hat?

We got the caps in September and I tried to trade them for the tumblers, but they didn't have have any left. She gave me two silver frames with Carnival etched in them...let me keep the hats and the frames.

  6. So somehow I got hooked into being the leader of a group from our Local VFW to go on the Fantasy.... and we are BOOKED! Next May a bunch of us from the islands and mainland will embark on a cruise with good friends. It's one of the cruises that goes to Little Stirrup Cay (CoCo cay for RCCL) instead of Freeport. So another cruise on a wonderful ship with great crew and friends to BOOT! YeaHa!

I like Little Stirrup Cay...actually anywhere beside Freeport!

  8. You listen to Jimmy Buffet and/or steel drum music all day.

You have a "Cruise" folder in your Document list on your computer.

You book another cruise as soon as you get home from your last cruse.

You check out CC every day.

You try to figure out ways to stowaway on the last night. I've actually got this one figured out. I could hide in the life boats until they start boarding again. Then I could eat at the buffets and shower in the spa...they'd never find out. I think I could do for at least six months, whaddya think?

  9. We love the Fantasy for a quick get away. It's an easy drive for us from Charlotte. She was our third cruise way back before the Serenity Deck and the water slide. In fact, there was a nice large pool where the slide is now.

Yes, you can take a 7 day cruise for the price of the Fantasy's five day, but if you do your research, you can get a low fare. My husband looks at Travelocity and Crucon constantly and when he finds a cabin he wants at the fare he wants, we book it. Trust me, we don't pay an arm and leg for our cruises.

  10. Thank you! Go for it as far as "stealing" this idea!! (Actually, I have seen others who have done this and I stole it from them! LOL) The more people who do it the more we get some great reviews.....I like the fact that they are complete when it's posted. Also you can edit it if necessary and you don't need a photo host company like photobucket, etc., you can just download the pics from your computer. The hard part is getting started and learning your way around a blog, which I still haven't mastered!! LOL.

I did get set up, but haven't played around with it to see how to upload pics, etc. I'll practice when we get back from our Fantasy cruise in Sept. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

  11. I think that assumption comes from years ago when there were more younger people who did party. Carnival has become more family oriented so you don't have as much "partying". Now if you cruise any cruise line during spring break or summer, you are going to have the younger crowd that just wants to drink all they can and party as much as they can. Avoid those times of the year and you won't have as much as of that.
