  1. I have sailed both, the Liberty in 2012 and the Freedom in 2013. They are sister ships - so the layout is nearly identical. The Freedom will go into dry dock prior to your sailing date, so it too will have the 2.0 upgrades.

With this said, IMO the Liberty is just all around better than the Freedom. Liberty's décor is much more pleasing to the eye and it flows from one public room to the next. The Freedom's décor - very choppy and almost gaudy at times. I also found the service - especially in the MDR, better on the Liberty. We had Karl with a "K" as the cruise director on the Liberty - and he is really good, and made the cruise more fun. I can't even tell you the name of the CD on the Freedom - he left little impression on me. But crews change so I might have gone when the Liberty was at its peak and the Freedom wasn't.

Food is much too subjective to say if it is any good, but there is ample selection day and night. If the itineraries are comparable, I personally would choose to sail the Liberty again.

We've had Karl in the past. Two weeks ago it was Josh "Big Sexy". I liked him, too.

  2. The seraphim code I heard was "Seraphim, seraphim, Lido deck by the pool" I figured someone must have fallen or gotten hurt. I've never heard the code seraphim before.

The bright star was just bright star, bright star and then the location. A few years ago someone posted on the boards the whole list of codes and I printed them, but can't find them now.

  3. We always purchase it, just not through the cruise line or TA. Husband goes on line and compares, and we usually end up with Travelex.

We started getting it a few years ago when our parents began getting older and with their health problems and ours, we thought it was a good idea. You never know what may happen ON the trip and you would need medical care...or if your flight is canceled and or whatever...there are o many ifs these days.

  4. Okay, I know I've seen a list of ship's codes on CC before, but I can't find the search feature anymore...anyway, we heard the codes Bright Star and Seraphim on our recent cruise. I think Bright Star means a death (medical emergency for sure), but I don't know what Seraphim means.

    Anyone know the codes?

  5. Manny looks like Matt LeBlanc

Ha! He does a little! He was leaving the ship the week after our cruise and was not renewing his contract. He has a little girl in Bosnia and wanted to watch her grow up. He and Fernando were a great team. Although we had Anytime dining, we asked for them every night, we liked them so much.

  6. I have not been on the Freedom, but have been on the Liberty several times and it is my favorite of Carnival's fleet. It has a Venetian decor and is pretty. Some may consider it dark, but I don't think so...and again, I can't compare since I have not been on the Freedom. As for the main shows, they are the same on most of the Carnival ships and the ones on the Liberty three weeks ago are the same ones we saw on the Fantasy last year and on the Liberty year before.

  7. Not just platinum cruisers get the free drink coupons. My kids are gold and they got it. And our friends were red and they got one. Also, doesn't just have to be used at brunch. Can be used in the MDR at lunch as well. And on some ships they will honor it at some bars, even though it says it on the Voucher.

Good to know, thanks! I assumed (which I know we shouldn't do) it was Platinum and Diamond because no one else at our table had them nor knew about them.

I did notice they have stopped having the comedians perform during the brunch. It was pretty bad for them because no one listened.

  8. Gorgeous photos!!!! Thanks for posting. I love Liberty.

The food looked good. What was the chocolate dessert in the first group of food photos? That looked very good.

What did you think of the new menu? We're looking forward to getting back on Liberty in May.

That dessert was the hazelnut cake. It was pretty good. I personally did not like the new menus, choices were not so great and they took off my favorite desserts -- bitter n blanc, creme brulee and souffle. I had ice cream most nights. I did like the flatbread which on the "for the table" menu and the pasta dish (forgot what it was called), was given to everyone that particular night as was the hazelnut cake.

  9. The brunch is pretty good. We went a couple of years ago on the Liberty and again a couple of weeks ago. The first morning we went early and had breakfast but the second one we went later for more of a lunch, although most items on the menu are more breakfast type. Here is a picture of the tomato soup that is really good.

If you are a Platinum member, you will get coupons for a free drink at the brunch.

  10. Sailed the Liberty last week; she is my favorite of the Carnival fleet. We had anytime dining and it is a great location. We went in around 6:00 every evening and never had to wait. We round a wait team (Fernando & Manny) the first night that we loved so we asked for them every night except one after that. We also always asked for a table for two.

  11. I've read several different answers on this question over the years, but, we always leave on the auto tips and give our cabin steward and his/her assistants extra in cash on the last night. Same with our waiter and assistant waiter. Even though we use anytime dining, if we get a wait team we like, we will ask for them the remainder of the cruise and then give them extra in cash the last night.

I created a thank you card that has thank you in all the different languages comprised of the staff on board thanking them for their service, etc., etc. They all seem to appreciate it quite a bit.

  12. OP, just wanted to let you know that you will do a lot of walking on the Oasis, so be in shape if you choose it. Also, you must pre-book all of your entertainment so keep checking and book as soon as it opens up. Don't miss the parades. As others have said, the entertainment is the best we've ever seen. All the performers are Olympic skaters and divers and they are awesome. I love Carnival, but would never pass up the Oasis.

Talk about talent, I thought my DW was the only 1 who could change the color of clothes.

DW and I have never had any issues with the wash and fold service on CCL either.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, just wanted to say Hi to Mike...we are going on the Liberty in a couple of weeks...I always think about our great M&G that Denise put together for us. Remember?

    Take care.

  14. Just be careful sending anything nice. Some of our laundry got bleached out on Ecstasy last month. I think it was an isolated incident, but better to be safe than sorry. I never send stuff that I'd be devastated to lose.

We usually just send underwear and my husband's t-shirts that won't matter if they get messed up. They don't press anything so don't expect anything great out of this.

  15. If you have access to these items, here's what I do:

I print off the number I'll need in color preferrably, on cardstock.

    Cut out the tag.

Laminate them, then cut to the tag's size

Punch a hole in each end of the tag, put it through my handle and secure with a zip tie through the holes.

Have never had a problem with them coming off.

The folded ones work just fine, too. The folding makes them sturdy.

I also always put ours on before leaving home. Have never had a problem with the airport or the cruise terminal staff being confused about them, nor have they come off during airport handling.
