Taxi rates have gone up lately. There's a taxi line right outside Grand Central Terminal on 42nd Street. The cost of a cab would run approximately $30. If you're taking the cab earlier in the morning it will probably be five or six dollars cheaper as the traffic will be much lighter on a weekend morning. Jonathan

You can never go wrong with a plate of chocolate covered strawberries. Will they have any effect on how clearly you see the glaciers? Probably not. But, they sure are tasty and just the sight of them says "We're going on an adventure!" Jonathan

Once you go Disney, can you go back?
cruiserking replied to NoMadSean's topic in Ask a Cruise Question
No matter which cruise line you favor and book the most it's always nice to try other lines and you'll soon discover there are some other great choices out there. Variety is the spice of life. Jonathan -
What was your favorite overnight port?
cruiserking replied to wwarren57's topic in Ask a Cruise Question
Cobh, Ireland, Bermuda. We always have dinner on board the ship but, it's nice to have the benefit of extra time at certain ports and these two were both enjoyable. Jonathan -
"traditional" Italian honeymoon VS. Cruise? Help?
cruiserking replied to amandaaa04's topic in Honeymoon & Wedding Cruises
I also think a cruise honeymoon is a great way to travel because once you board the ship you're on vacation and you don't need to pack/unpack numerous times the destinations just materialize every day. You can certainly enjoy authentic meals ashore for lunch and perhaps a dinner or two as ships stay quite late at Santorini. I found two potential Greek Isles cruises that might work for you. Celebrity Cruise Line - upscale line, top-notch service, delicious food, elegant on lounges and public spaces. June 29, 2024 Saturday to Saturday Greek Isles Here is the itinerary: June 29 - Piraeus, Athens - 5 pm departure June 30 - Santorini, Greece - 8 am to 10: pm July 1 - Sea Day July 2 - Ephesus, Turkey - 8 am to 8 pm July 3 - Rhodes, Greece - 8 am to 6 pm July 4 - Mykonos - 8 am to 7 pm July 5 - Hydra, Greece - 8 am to 6 pm July 6 - Piraeus, Athens - 5 am Celebrity Edge - fabulous, modern much newer ship with many terrific specialty restaurants on board. July 13, 2023 - Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy | Naples, Italy | Mykonos, Greece | Ephesus, Turkey | Santorini (Thira), Greece | Piraeus (Athens), Greece Princess Cruise Lines - Terrific line, traditional, beautiful ships, excellent service, lovely public spaces and cabins. The brand new Sun Princess has a great itinerary that meets your wishes. We are booked on this route next year too. July 6, 2024 Piraeus (Athens), Greece | Kotor, Montenegro | Corfu, Greece | Messina, Sicily, Italy | Naples, Italy | Barcelona, Spain Happy planning. Cruising is a wonderful way to honeymoon. My wife honeymooned aboard a 17-day Transatlantic NY to Rome and were married aboard the ship before we left New York. You will meet some many great people and have terrific adventures all the while traveling in a luxurious style. Jonathan -

Nassau, Bahamas is by far the more interesting port. The brand new cruise pier has just opened with many local shops, food stalls and a Junkanoo museum just steps from your ship's gangway. Book a food tour. This is a wonderful way to experience the Bahamas by learning some history and enjoying some authentic local food. We thoroughly enjoyed both of these tours particularly the second one. Tru Bahamian The first food tour we did in Nassau, Bahamas was with Tru Bahamian. You meet that at a local church just a very short walk from the cruise pier. It's a great tour with a nice combination of history and delicious food stops. We discovered several great places we have returned to often like Mama's Kitchen in Nassau and Graycliff Hotel Chocolate shop. https://www.trubahamianfoodtours.com/ Island Food Tours Most recently we did an excellent tour with this company that we booked through Royal Caribbean. They picked us up in the port and drove a small group of us around in a comfortable mini van. We made stops at several great places that we have since returned to including a wonderful authentic bakery called the New Duff and a fabulous tea shop with many delicious tropical blends. https://islandfoodtour.com/tours/flavors-of-nassau/ Happy Cruising. Utopia of the Seas Short Cruises??
cruiserking replied to lcpagejr's topic in Royal Caribbean International
Most first-time cruisers pick short cruises because they're not sure if they'll like cruising. The first time cruise market is the largest market in the cruise industry and Royal Caribbean wants to Wow new guests with a top of the line ship busting with bells and whistles. Jonathan -

Bermuda island drive by mini bus tour

We also did this tour with Heidi a few years ago. You'll be docked in Bermuda for a few days so there's no concern about arriving back to the ship too late. Heidi grew up in Bermuda and knows it's lore, history and characters like the back of her hand. She lived in the light house. She'll take you for lunch to a spot that makes fish sandwiches that are a mile high. Go with an appetite and enjoy. Jonathan -
Yes, absolutely especially if you're an avid cook. My wife who loves to cook did the sushi class a few years back on Anthem and really enjoyed it, she took her new skills back home and rolled some sushi for dinner a few times. Jonathan

Would you cruise the Caribbean in August?
cruiserking replied to emeraldaine's topic in Ask a Cruise Question
August is way to hot to cruise the Caribbean. There are much better options, how about a cruise to Canada/New England or the British Isles. Jonathan -

Most of these car companies monitor flight arrival times and adjust their pick-up times based on updated information. They are talking about general city pick ups and lateness of which 15 minutes is a fairly standard waiting time. Jonathan

I can strongly recommend Carmel Car Service as a reliable company. They have always been at the pick up on-time with clean cars and good drivers. 212 666-6666. Happy Cruising. Jonathan

I would strongly suggest trying to move your cabin. I also had a Sky Suite booked underneath the Ocean View Cafe and switched instead for an Aft Sky Suite instead. The cafe was gets underway at 4:30 am with noisy rolling carts going back and forth. Jonathan

I'm not familiar with Cheetah car service but, they appear to get very good reviews on Tripadvisor.com. I can strongly recommend a competitor Blackberry Car Service. We used them last summer and they were reliable, featured comfortable clean cars and always returned emails in a prompt fashion. I've booked them again for this summer as well. Good luck with whichever company you choose. Jonathan

possible tours in Cork Ireland for Sept. 7
cruiserking replied to dwalters214's topic in British Isles/Western Europe
Your ship will dock in Cobh which is a lovely little town to explore with many great shops, colorful houses, bars and restaurants. We ported here for two days last August aboard the Emerald Princess. On the first day we took a ship excursion up to Killarney. This a great town busting with character, many great shops to peruse, restaurants and bars. Have a great cruise. Jonathan -
Breweries/fun bars & local fare in Brugges or LeHavre?
cruiserking replied to KKB's topic in British Isles/Western Europe
We visited Bruges on a port stop 12 years ago and are headed back there for another port stop in August. It's a wonderful place filled with character and charm. Go to Tripadvisor.com and search for well reviewed canal boat ride, they last around and hour and they're really great fun. Bruges is filled to the brim with chocolate shops bring your sweet tooth and have fun exploring the bevy of shops that line every street. For the Le Havre port stop I highly recommend booking the ship tour to Honfleur. Your ship will likely include this excursion. It's only about 40 minutes away by bus and is such a quintessential French town busting with ambience. There are dozens of shops, tons of inviting restaurants. We skipped the guided walking tour included with the tour and spent a delightful 2 hours strolling around this delightful spot. Happy Cruising. Jonathan -
