  1. Not surprising that a container ship could take out a bridge designed as this one was. I don’t think when the bridge was designed anyone thought about terror attacks but lots of infrastructure could be taken out with a terror attack.
  2. An EDL will work but I would bring her birth certificate.
  3. Are you sure she has an EDL and not a Real ID license? I know since she lives in Michigan she could have a Real ID license but a lot of people confuse the two. Since it is a closed loop cruise she could use her birth certificate and DL. Also she probably has time to get her passport renewed. @Ferry_Watcher
  4. Tobacco Bay or Clearwater Beach. You can take a ferry to St George to either on a weekday then a taxi to either. You could take a taxi the whole way but that would be pretty expensive.
  5. I love Horseshoe Bay but it does not usually have calm waters. Beaches with amenities that are calm are Tobacco Bay, Clearwater is relatively calm. Beaches without facilities that are calm are Jobsons Cove. Shelly Bay.
  6. Heidi at Byways Tours can take 10. ttps://www.bermudabyways.com
  7. They will work to clear the channel as fast as they can. I heard a month. There are 30 to 40 cargo ships at the port. They will want to reoopn the port. I don't see why cruise ships would be inhibited when the channel is cleared.
  8. Plenty of times. They could add more coaches to trains and/or add more trains. No problem at all. A Northeast Regional can have about 800 passengers seated. What you see as a full train is because they don't run them with more coaches than they anticipate selling seats because they would have to add crew.
  9. Buses seem most likely if they debark at Bayonne because it would be direct but Amtrak could easily handle the people and baggage. They could also add extra trains. There is also Newark Airport.
  10. This is a great tragedy. Been over that bridge many times and in heavy traffic. It would have been worse if it happened in daytime.
  11. That is odd. I have been to Puerto Rico a bunch of times, flown in and out and I never brought my passport. There is no immigration or customs from the mainland US. I did bring it with me once to the US Virgin Islands, St Thomas but that was because we were doing a side trip from there to the British Virgin Islands.
  12. My passport is on the ship. So it is in the foreign country. That is good enough except a few ports. The only one that I needed to take it into port was Russia. But to each their own. OP asked if it was necessary and the answer to OP is it is not necessary for St.Maarten, and it is not necessary for St. Thomas.
  13. They are privately owned minibuses that run back and forth between the Dockyard and Horseshoe Bay. Ride share, they leave as soon as they fill up. 12 to 30 passengers. They are located in the staging area between the two ship berths. There is signage. $7 per person per ride.
  14. It is not necessary. I never take it off the ship. Some people do. They think they will might miss the ship. St. Thomas is a US territory by the way.
  15. One time out of Florida there were 800 Brazilians on board on Voyager. Probably sold by the same TA. There were announcements in Portuguese. They had menus in Portuguese. They were well off. They treated the crew badly. Almost every day in the dining room there was some kind of drama. They would smoke in the Royal Promenade and in the elevators. I felt bad for the crew.
  16. The vibe is different out of San Juan because there is a larger number of Latino passengers. Different too out of the UK. Not different better or worse just different. I never noticed any different vibe out of mainland US ports or out of Vancouver.
  17. Sure if you cruise out of Florida there will be more Florida transplant retirees. Out of San Juan more Puerto Ricans. Out of Southhampton UK more British, As far as dress up in the evening I notice little difference out of any US ports, Florida, Texas, New York area out of the UK the British definitly dress up in the evening more than Amrican passengers boarding there.
  18. I didn't care for his attitude and response. Instead of empathy it was more like she must have had a preexisting condition which might have been true but was not established. The Bermuda government did estabish new rules in response which he'd has to follow to continue which he objected too but he has had to follow. In any case the cruise lines have not resumed booking his excursions since then, 10 years ago.
  19. You can book with Hartley direct on their website.
  20. There are no taxes in Bermuda on the ship while docked there or any taxes in Bermuda. Bermuda does not have a sales tax or a VAT on purchases.
  21. Good point. It might not be easy.
  22. From and Horseshoe to Gibbs Lighthouse is not walkable. The main road is a two lane road with no sidewalk or shoulder and blind curves with traffic. You can take the bus there and from there to Lighthouse Road then walk to the Lighthouse from the bus stop. No sidewalk either but not much traffic traffic on Lighthouse Rd. Easy to get a taxi from Horseshoe to Gibbs but might have to wait for a taxi from Gibbs. Ask them to call a taxi at the gift shop. Sea Glass beach, you can't take any glass, so you are just getting to see a trash heap.
