  1. Just keep in mind that the BOGO math is made up. They want to sell the cabin for $1,600. So whether or not the bogo is in effect, they show the average pp price on the description page. So they show it as $800 pp. The couple isn’t paying $800 for the first and $400 for the second. They are paying $1033 for the first person and $534 for the second.
  2. yes, you certainly want to pre-plan. You can still do it on your own. For example, in Santorini there are several businesses directly off the ship that will boat you to Oia and bus you back. In Rome you can take the train (although that would be quite a long day). But no, If you get off the ship and expect to walk/taxi to a sight of interest without any pre-planning you will likely be disappointed.
  3. I took a river cruise in Vietnam last year. I'm 38 and while a vast majority of the passengers were 60+, there was another group around my age. I didn't feel like it was a bad choice. Our cruise director did a really good job on the excursions of making sure everyone was comfortable regardless of ability. There were several walking excursions that ranged from easy to moderate+ and they always had tuktuks or buses available for people that didn't want to walk.
  4. I guess people have already forgotten about this American toddler dies after fall from Royal Caribbean cruise ship | CNN Yes! it is extremely dangerous.
  5. agreed, we have also paid taxes on drinks while in a U.S. port on other lines. It’s not a ‘carnival’ thing. to the OP, generally you can use the drink package on the day that you board. I think there’s only a couple disembarkation cities you can’t and that’s due to local laws. If you can’t use it the day you board, they also charge you a day less.
  6. Sorry, this isn’t clear. You overnight in Mumbai the evening of the 12th night? Then yes, you can make your flight on the 13th.
  7. US bills that are torn, damaged, or marked up with ink are almost universally not accepted outside of the US. This may work fine at the superbowl; but giving it as a tip on a cruise ship is giving them a souvenir only. Not money.
  8. Human trafficking isn't the issue. Interference with custody is. As in parents have shared custody and one wants to take the child away to live with just them. And yes, a closed loop cruise could certainly be used for this. Just get off at one of the stops and board a plane flying somewhere else.
  9. Yes, I think it is bad now in Peru. We went in 2021. The day we went to the main government square in lima there were lots of police in riot gear. We didn’t feel safe and were happy to move back to the tourist areas.
  10. Yeah. Contactless credit card payments isn’t very popular in the US. I didn’t even realize it was an option until about a year ago, I had a card with a worn out chip. Generally had to run it 3 times before I could swipe it. Still didn’t occur to me most times to tap and pay. Just don’t think it’s been widely advertised here. Keep in mind that we only got chip cards within the last few years.
  11. Start by deciding which cruise line, then check their requirements. A birth certificate is probably all that will bd required. But you wouldn’t probably want to bring a notarized letter from her parents that you can take her out of the country and get medical treatment.
  12. I haven’t sailed MSC, so their boards is the best place to answer this. You can’t re-price; you may or may not get OBC. But there’s nothing you can do at this point.
  13. As long as it’s a closed loop sailing, you should be fine with your birth certificate and drivers license. People cruise with those all the time.
  14. You can’t re-price the taxes/fees only. If they stay reduced up until your sailing - some cruise lines will automatically give you OBC for the difference; some won’t.
  15. Ok. I understand now. Yes, it sounds as though it would be difficult to get a visa there.
  16. I'm not sure that this rules out a visa service. We just ran into that with a Vietnam visa. We didn't have to physically appear but the only way to apply was in person. That's what the visa service does. they operate in Washington DC and sends a person over with your passport and application to apply for you.
  17. This is what royal's trip insurance covers: Royal Caribbean Travel Protection Program (archinsurancesolutions.com) The medical/evacuation coverage is lower than you may want. But the included cancel for any reason coverage may be a good deal if you need that. This isn't a one size fits all. If you think you may need cancel for any reason coverage and are ok with that coming back as a royal caribbean credit, it may be a better deal. Otherwise, it's probably less coverage for more money than other travel insurers.
  18. It's unlikely Carnival will care if they find it. But, technically most countries (including the US) wont' allow you to bring unpackaged food in. Especially nuts and fruits. So, while I don't think you would have too much issue bringing it on the ship; any time you took it off the ship you would be violating customs laws. Different countries are more thorough than others. We were actually on a flight to Australia where we received a sealed packet of nuts on the plane. When we landed we had saved them to take with us and had to throw them out. They wouldn't allow any nuts in, including packaged.
  19. Just for the record, I was in Vietnam last month and none of our hotels held onto our passports. I think that this is something that used to happen at times, and now rarely, if ever. The problem on this topic is dismissing someone who hasn't experienced it as untraveled. I suspect alot of this is rumors based on old practices. Two countries I have been two recently have been listed as "holding your passport" (Peru and Vietnam); and we did not experience that in either.
  20. We did the Butt's up cave tubing on our own and had a great time. The itinerary included the cave tubing, lunch, and a city tour. They did the city tour at the end which allowed us to return with plenty of buffer time if something came up.
  21. That may have been Gate 1's decision to ensure safekeeping of the passports. We traveled to Peru in 2021 and no hotel kept our passports. I personally have never experienced a hotel keeping our passport, other than to make a copy. Not saying it could never happen but have traveled in South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Africa without experiencing this.
  22. I don't know of any of the major US based cruise lines that allow a 20 year old to sail by themselves. So, that's the first thing to look in to.
  23. Yes, we have had this happen a few times. It's to do with what nationality you are, what ports you are stopping in, and the immigration paperwork needed. In Carribean cruises, for example, I've seen them collect non-us passenger passports. I've had mine held before in European and Asian itineraries. It helps them expedite processing the paperwork they need to do. AFAIK, if you really don't feel safe getting off the ship without your passport, you can pick them up at guest services daily to take them to shore with you and then return them when you get back.
  24. my issue is primarily based on vision. I’ve gotten motion sick at movies several times. If I see motion but don’t feel it or don’t see motion but do feel it I get sick. So big boats are actually worse for me than small boats. You can see out the window that you are moving but can’t feel it. Have to either be on deck looking at the horizon or inside with no windows when seas are calm. When seas are rough, all bets are off 🙄
  25. bonine is supposed to be non-drowsy. For some people it can still cause drowsiness. I like the patches for long trips and bonine for short trip. However, be aware that the patches can have much more significant and severe side effects than bonine. It's worth trying at home first, especially if he is prone to medication side effects. I rarely have medication side effects and haven't had issues with patches.
