Panama Canal Partial Transit Shore Ex. or Stay on ship
SusieKIslandGirl replied to mkl55's topic in Holland America Line
We did the partial transit last fall and did a tour that included visiting the new locks visitor center and then a nature walk. Loved it! -
The Fleet Report and Daily for Wednesday August 2nd, 2023
SusieKIslandGirl replied to richwmn's topic in Holland America Line
Good Afternoon/Evening Everyone! It's been a busy day with the morning filled with the sewing group for our hospital comfort quilts, then some yard work and now to fix a birthday dinner for DS who is visiting from near Atlanta. And whenever he visits, I must make potato salad so perfect for this day. Dill pickles are a must along with eggs and celery plus a bit more pickle juice. I used to cook the potatoes and then peel them but found it easier and faster to peel and cube first. Another too hot day for "rainy" Seattle area-blah! And still trying to figure out how DS is 51 already. Have a great evening.- 99 replies

The Fleet Report and Daily for Tuesday August 1st, 2023

@Cruzin TerriDo you have your bathroom and kitchen stove exhaust fans on? I've found that helps remove some of the hot air that rises.- 86 replies

The Fleet Report and Daily for Sunday July 30th, 2023

@ger_77Gerry, my next air fryer will have French doors instead of the drop down door. I’m tired of scrubbing baked-on crumbs from the glass.- 81 replies

The Fleet Report and Daily for Tuesday July 25th, 2023
SusieKIslandGirl replied to richwmn's topic in Holland America Line
Thank you for all the photos of Singapore. We will be there in January, 2025-a long wait but should be an interesting cruise. As for actually threading a needle, you might find it easier to hold the thread still in one hand and move the needle eye toward the thread rather than the other way. And I just noticed last month that the SEATAC parking garage also has the green lights for parking spaces. For some reason though, they weren't always accurate. Our rain didn't last long but did have another shower late in the afternoon and then a beautiful, large, bright rainbow right over the airport. Take care everyone and stay cool.- 90 replies

How many casino points earn a free cruise?
SusieKIslandGirl replied to KKB's topic in Princess Cruises
Thanks. I usually spend a couple of hours when I’m there. And others have reported that they might spend $20.00 and get an offer. It’s a mystery to me. -
How many casino points earn a free cruise?
SusieKIslandGirl replied to KKB's topic in Princess Cruises
DH and I cruise both Princess and HAL. I play in the casino most every evening. I have never received an offer from either cruise line. Is there something I'm not doing that I should be doing? We've done nearly 20 cruises total but nothing! Thanks. -
If you decide to put in a forward to a PO Box, there should be a spot on the forwarding order to mark that the forward is temporary and an end date is given. That way the mailer is not notified of a permanent change of address. Be prepared for the cost of the box-the prices have risen lately, and often there are no boxes available to rent.

Taking off our bags when time to disembark...allowed?
SusieKIslandGirl replied to SSBrickNJ's topic in Holland America Line
I'm trying to remember if it was in the airport in Copenhagen that we almost had an oops! We were plenty early so did some shopping around and then headed to the gate. Did not expect to see the passport desk with a long line. Luckily it went quickly but heart stopped for a minute. -
Questions for the Seattle pros
SusieKIslandGirl replied to Motor City's topic in West Coast Departures
I’m not sure the cost of the ferry fare is worth the loop through Vashon. And you could end up wasting a lot of time waiting for a ferry that might not run, due to “lack of qualified crew”. -

Also along the waterfront is the Ye Olde Curiosity Shop, a fun and strange shop. The big wheel is there and Ivar's Fish and Chips are available. Just watch out for seagulls trying to steal your fries. Watching flying salmon at Pike Place Market is always fun. Not sure if they fly on weekends though. -

There are car rental locations downtown. You might check with Enterprise to see if they will meet you at the pier. They advertise they will pick you up within a certain distance. You can then drop the car off at the airport. Generally, if you rent at the airport, it will cost more. -
The questions just keep on coming
SusieKIslandGirl replied to skrufy's topic in Holland America Line
It's also happened that they've used a photo already in the system if you had cruised within 2 or 3 years. My DH could tell by how his beard was shaped. -
@StLouisCruisersThank you for the update on sad situation near you. But relieved that the person was found. I did check to see if Hampton was anywhere near my son's place in Newnan. @RedneckBobAnother vote for rum raisin and add Umpqua's spumoni Hoping this next week cools off, the rains transfer to where needed and everyone has a great week.

We’ve found that crew are not available at muster stations to scan our cards until about 2:30. -
I should have been a little clearer on our weather. It does cool off when the sun goes down and generally need a sweater. And of course, as soon as I made the report, the weather prediction changed and it will cool off below 80 degrees as a high soon-thank goodness.

I can't believe how crazy the weather has been lately. "Rainy Seattle" is not living up to its name. Last July, August, and September recorded a total of .48" of rain. This year, May had just under an inch, June had 1.22 but nothing since June 20. And it's been way too hot for this wimp. I just spoke with my son who is near Atlanta. We had the same temp. but at least our humidity was only 38%. And according to one weather forecast I saw, we won't have a day under 80 degrees until September. Hopefully when I'm in Michigan next month, we might see some rain. Take care everyone!

Alaska Cruisetour - land accommodations question
SusieKIslandGirl replied to HappyInVan's topic in Holland America Line
If you go midsummer, be sure to pack a pair of shorts. It was 92 degrees in Fairbanks when we were there. The hotels did provide fans but no A/C. Luckily, my SIL warned me about the possibility of it being quite warm and she was right!
