  1. Wait, breakfast and lunch in CK is buffet style?

It was on the week we were on Oasis. This was the first week that Coastal Kitchen was open, so they were going to add sit down lunch (and possibly breakfast?) starting over the next two weeks. So that is why I said buffet, as that was our experience.

  2. Wonderful perk. Very acceptable breakfast and lunch buffet. Excellent service from Rose and Lovelyn (among others). These two young ladies made our day whenever we went to the lounge. We wanted to bring them home with us.

Rose is from South Africa and is a descendant from a Zulu tribe. She has an interesting accent that has a "click" on certain consonants when she talks. DW had a great time trying to learn some words in her native language.

  3. We were on Oasis for the 11/8/2014 sailing. One night in the Windjammer was designated as Seafood Night. They had "Lobster Thermidor" on the buffet. It was not Thermidor, but rather, was unlimited tails split in half and broiled. You could take as many as you wanted and they just kept refilling the pan.

We also had a GS and ate in the Coastal Kitchen several evenings. We also noticed that on several occasions that people at other tables were being served lobster tails. I asked our waitress and she said that you could special order them one evening, to be served the next.

  4. We did not take any pictures last week. You are right it is very spartan. There are a couple of purple couch's on the lounge side and the rest of it is very simplistic tables for four persons. The Coastal Kitchen side had the same tables. The chairs at the tables have long spindly legs, that combined with the thickness of the carpet, you are NOT able to pull a chair up to the table when you sit down. They told me that they have already had about thirty of the chair legs break, and supposedly they are going to chnage something.

The area is pretty spartan, however, the food at Coastal Kitchen was outstanding, the beef filet dish was better than Chop's. Service was excellent.

Coastal Kitchen is supposed to start serving breakfast and lucn (in addition to dinner) on Nov 22, 2014. We ate there three nights and enjoyed our meals every night. Be sure to try the dates stuffed with cheese and wrapped in ham (Serrano ham, IIRC)

  5. For those of you who have ordered meals from the dining room menu through room service, are they pretty quick getting the food to you? Is it still relatively warm?

I just noticed the suite we'll be in on Brilliance in January has full size table. I'm going to have to try getting at least one meal delivered. How does it work with lunch? If they only serve lunch in the MDR on sea days, can you not order lunch off of the MDR menu while in port?

On Oasis last week in a GS. We ordered dinner from Room Service two times during the week. Both times we ordered at 6 pm and were told 40 minutes to an hour. Both times the food arrived in 40 minutes. The food was warm to hot. Not hot off the stove but plenty warm to satisfy me. (And I like my hot food HOT) It was excellent service and a good dinner both times.

  6. I have personally seen someone truthfully answer the question about vomiting the previous three days. This person is highly susceptible to airsickness and carsickness. (For some reason, she never gets sick on a ship)

She was made to wait in the terminal, the ships doctor came off the ship and looked at her form and said she could not sail. The doctor did not examine her but only based his decision on the form. The rest of the family tried to explain the carsickness thing, but to no avail. She did not get to go.

  7. I worked in the US nuclear power industry until I retired. It is common practice to work employee's 6-12 hour shifts per week during times of repairs/outages.

We could also be extended to work 7-12's with a simple letter signed by plant management.

We could also be extended up to 16 hours a day by the same process.

BTW, this was all for "salary" with no overtime paid.

It is not just cruise ships that do this, albeit I was paid significantly more per week than cruise ship workers.

  8. Currently on Oasis, the Concierge Lounge has limited waiter served breakfast and lunch opportunities. Menu items are currently prepared in the galley that is also used for the Chef's Table dinners.

With the reported move of the Concierge Lounge to the location of the Viking Crown lounge, it is unknown at this time, if any food services will be provided in the new Concierge Lounge.

We have eaten breakfast in the Concierge lounge on numerous occasions and found the egg omelets to be the best we have ever had on RCCL. Breakfast is quiet, with the fine coffee from the coffee machine as well as a small buffet of fruit, OJ, fresh pastries, etc.

  9. Anyone know the purpose of the cable running from the aft of the ship (just above the waterline) that runs to some location off the picture to the right?

I would guess that it is a ground connection to provide an additional "earth" point for the electrical system, much like we have a separate copper ground wire to a ground rod in our homes.

I also notice that their is an additional hull penetration that is just aft of the four forward bow thrusters. Anyone know what that opening is for?
