  1. Sounds like Bonine needs to be on my list ASAP. And sea bands, and ginger gum! I think I’ll still try and make more calls in case cancellations pop up that would allow us to move more mid ship.

For everyone considering purchasing Bonine, try the generic drug meclizine. It is the generic form of Bonine, but MUCH cheaper. We buy it at WalMart in a 100 tab bottle, for around $10.00.

  2. But my little arrows point to the one directly above. :D

They share in the pool. They are always happy and grateful to receive more cash.

I eat "all over" CK, so I have many different servers. In that case, I give an envelope to the maitre d' and ask him to distribute it. :)

Call me a cynic! But I would guess that that envelope was "distributed" straight into the Maitre'ds pocket.

  3. You will have no problem bringing those items on board. The fridge/cooler in your cabin should be adequate, but if I were you, I would bring some freezer-strength ziplock bags and fill them with ice. (you can request ice from your cabin steward twice a day). Put the bags of ice in the fridge to lower the temperature.

We have found that if you leave the wooden door to the cabinet (where the mini-fridge is located) open, the little fridge will cool much better. You cannot always do this as many times the door of the mini-fridge is attached to the wood cabinet door with a plastic strap.

  4. The last time we flew SWA from FLL, our flight was at 4:30. We got to the arport at 10:00 and were not allowed to check in our luggage until 4 hours before our flight. I had to keep it with us for a couple hours.

Since that time, we have always used LV (when available) LV solves that problem.

  5. Very happy to hear that your family had a great time.

I do get tired of posts that suggest everyone can have a great time on every cruise. It just isn't the case. Even those who generally try to made the best of any experience.

What would you do if you had to spend five nights sleeping in a cabin that stunk of sewage? Would you choose to be happy? Is that really a choice?

I have a theory about the "sewer gas smells" in some cabins.

Have you ever noticed that the bathrooms are about an inch or so above the cabin floor? The bath drains into this area and some water always seems to remain between the base floor and the bathroom floor. If you listen at the floor drain while draining the bathtub, you can sometimes hear the water moving through that area. We have had some success pouring several ice bucket full of water down that floor drain and flushing that area somewhat. We also place a wet washcloth or towel over that drain and it will significantly reduce or eliminate any of these odors.

  6. If you missed getting yours for the 140 point milestone call C&A and they will ship one to you.

Unless you fully earned the 140 points before the conversion, they won't give you a block. When they did the point conversion from the old system of one point per cruise to a point per day, they adjusted many of us to what they determined was an equivalent number of "days" under the new system.

I called C&A as suggested, and they told me no. We got our first block at 210.

PS. If you fully earned the 140 points after the conversion, that may be a different story.

  7. It depends on what you consider "good views". The Oasis class ships predominantly tie up to the pier with the starboard side facing the pier. However, they can, and do tie up with the port side to the pier. (They do this, for example, when they need to exercise the starboard side lifeboats).

So there is not a hard and fast rule as to which side does what during a specific cruise.

We prefer the starboard side, since that is usually the side towards the pier and we like to watch people and the pier-side activities.

  8. If you missed getting yours for the 140 point milestone call C&A and they will ship one to you.

I tried this and it did not happen! The folks on the phone said that since I passed the 140 point due to the "points conversion" that happened a few years ago, that we did not qualify for the 140 points block. We got our first block at 210. I think that this policy is BS but not worth fighting over or losing any sleep.

  9. If you like to watch what is going on on the pier while in port, I would suggest starboard side. The Oasis class ships predominantly tie up to the pier with the starboard side to the pier. When using the starboard side, they can use the escalator for when people are leaving and returning to the ship.

They will occasionally put the port side to the pier if they have some maintenance issue on the port side or they want to exercise lifeboats on the starboard side. I find it fun to watch the "runners" who think that the all aboard time does not apply to them. Some are left standing on the pier and waving goodbye to their ship.

  10. On the Oasis, wine and beer were available in the suite lounge for free from 11a to 11p. Mixed drinks were available only in the evening. I'm glad we didn't get the drink package. I got plenty of free drinks in the lounge, and I paid for a few here and there in other venues. Two of us only spent about $100 in drinks for the whole week.

This reply is exactly what we found to be true on Oasis last November.
