I'm aware of that incident.  I've stayed there once before and twice after that time and have not had any problems.  Just relating my experience with them.

I think the issue occurs if you book now at the low rate of 93 Euros in hopes of staying at San (Scam) Giorgio, once they are full they continue to take reservations at a higher price.  They then kick the people who purchased the rooms at a lower rate and keep the ones that are paying more for the rooms.  Good for the management as they are maximizing their profit with little risk of having an empty hotel.  Bad for the consumers who plan ahead and get thrown out into the street.

Again, this just didn't happen this one time as reviews on them cite many occasions this has happened.  Perhaps you were lucky or paid a premium to stay there.

We use San Giorgio.  Not the greatest but convenient and provides bus to the ship.

I second Bob's Limo.  Great service.

Do your research on the Scam Giorgio.  Several years ago a number of us booked 4 rooms with them 1 year in advance.  As the cruise date approached they suddenly informed all of us that they made an error and our reservations were cancelled due to overbooking.  It was over booked because they were still accepting reservations at the higher price.  This happened less than 2 weeks before the cruise while most of us were already in Europe.  We scrambled to get alternate accommodations and less than 2 weeks out they weren't the greatest and not the cheapest.

Read the Italy boards, check out Trip Advisor.  This was not an isolated incident as it was their business model.  I would stay away from this place.

I would tip if you eat meals in the dining car. Since you aren’t getting a bill, 5$ per evening meals would be reasonable I think. Probably not for breakfasts and lunches.

bring some reading material.  I’ve done that trip.  There’s not a lot to see through Ontario and Manitoba.

Well, I'm providing a substantial convenience; no need to waste time looking for a bank, answering questions about whether he has an account with them, having to consider whether he needs to or should wear a mask... probably a whole host of other petty annoyances that can be avoided by dealing directly with me.

Good point.  Some banks may not offer an exchange if you don't have an account with them.  Best to find a money exchange place.  Might get better rates too.  I am more than happy to give you CND at par. 🤣

  5. It all depends on what interests the OP has.  I lived in NB for 2 years and have been to almost all of the Maritime provinces.  NL is that last elusive province we just can't get around to getting to.  Anyway, our interests are food an drink and there are a lot of fabulous places to visit.  One place that sadly did not make the Covid cut was the Nova Scotia Chrystal works.  We have many beautiful pieces.  Maybe one day someone will refire the kilns.

So @TLCOhio, what do you like doing or seeing?

If you are a CFOne member, you also get 3 free bags with Air Canada and varying benefits with other airlines.

I wonder if I could combine the CFOne with my status on Air Canada?  Although schlepping 2 bags to the airport is a chore I can't imagine lugging 5!  And being part of the working class, I don't have enough vacation time to warrant that much luggage.😂

And as a CFOne member you have no restriction on the amount of luggage on Via Rail.

  7. Sounds like @Fouremco and I have had similar experiences with West Jet.  I think I had 6 flight with them and 5 all had issues with giving our business class seats away to travelling employees to changing our selected seats.  And yes, the same response from customer service.

As ex-military I get 4 free bags on WJ but unless they are the only solution I would not fly them.

Ok. I need some help. Going on NCL bliss next November from LA, and I have started a CIBC US account to save some spending money. Does anyone know if I can just use my debit card in the US and on the ship and withdraw my US dollars without any extra fees beyond ATM fees?

we will use a CC for the account on the ship, this will just be cash for the ports and casino.

Sorry Dave, I have not used my Canadian debt card to access my US account to withdraw funds from the ship's ATM.  We usually take money out at the casino and it goes on to our seapass account without paying any fees.  When when we get home we pay off our credit card.  Perhaps you can share with us if you can access your US account via the ships ATM when you return.

  9. I think Toronto is worse than Montreal.  Albeit, I only flew to Montreal once with a checked bag.  I remember it sitting on the carousel and this was a flight from Toronto.

Maybe that is why Customs takes a long time.  The unions have gotten together to delay you at CBSA to give the baggage handlers time to unload the plane and get your bags out.

Everywhere you look you can find a conspiracy theory. LOL

Honestly I usually just book Beck Taxi or similar to get to the airport for very early morning flights. Usually comes out cheaper than the car service flat rates given the lack of traffic etc.

Taxis can be cheaper.  I like the peace of mind that when I order a car at 5 am there will be one there at that time.

For future reference, posting the number for a taxi, limo or similar service is fine.
