  1. Oops, my bad on the bold text. That said, wouldn't it be either bar staff that deliver drinks, dining staff that deliver food or generally covered by, "staff who interact directly with guests?" Like TN-Mountains, curious to know the exception. Don't get me wrong, please do tip as you feel inclined.
  2. Here is what Princess says: All of the Crew Appreciation and Service Charge payments made by all guests on all ships in our fleet are pooled, net of credit card transaction fees. The pooled funds are distributed throughout the year in the form of compensation, including bonuses, to crewmembers fleetwide who interact directly with guests and/or behind the scenes throughout every cruise, including those in the Bar, Dining, Entertainment, Housekeeping, Guest Services, Galley and Onboard Revenue areas.
  3. Close. I had heard of SWAK, but not BURMA. Checking made me look here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_postal_acronyms#
  4. No one checks boarding time. You don't need one. Just show up. You don't need to be, "Green," either, meaning having the QR code. An example would be you prefer arrange your credit card info at the pier.
  5. Before giving an opinion, remember we live 10 miles from the beach. Princess Cays is a very nice beach. So much nicer than our local beaches. Most importantly, you can feel safe, which you don't on some So. Cal. beaches. Activity are prices high, which you might expect. Anything private, you have nowhere to go. If you are from Indiana, I could see where this would be a real treat to visit. There is a free buffet and the best memory was the fresh fruits. My suggestion, forget the cabanas, the fishing, and the rentals. Princess Cays is at 24 degress N latitude. Even in December, bring and wear good sunblock!
  6. From our view here, port information showed Amber Cove winds at 6 knots from the west. Cruisemapper showed the Caribbean's path, first heading roughly south toward the port, then an odd series of turns to the left forming a loop, then heading west-by-northwest toward Cuba. Then a slow speed of 13 knots. @beg3yrs That must have been very unsettling for all aboard. Thank you both for sharing!
  7. Yes. No charge, twist timer on the wall.
  8. We prefer to sleep cool as well. Some don't know this, But you can request a sheet and blanket instead of the duvet from your steward. To us, that Princess foam mattress sleeps hot and the duvet makes it worse.
  9. Regarding number three, we have cruised RCCL but a one-and-done. I call the Radiance of the Seas, the cattle car of the seas. Too crowded. Thing is, the Caribbean Princess has the least space per passenger of any in the Princess fleet. Regarding number six, don't know who started this White and Gold night idea, but it was probably a guy because if Mrs. Mtnesterz in any indicator, you tell a woman which colors to wear at your peril. There are two formal nights on a seven night cruise. What you describe is fine for non-formal nights. Some will post here that you don't have to dress as requested on formal nights and within reason they're correct. The whole idea is that you enjoy yourself and make the night special. Some can't get with dressing for dinner, but this is in part what defines Princess and I'd encourage you to join in.
  10. The Caribbean Princess has six engines. Losing power on five at the same time is not likely. It has two generators, is that what you meant? Looked on CruiseMapper. Currently making 13kt. Slower than one would think. It was heading south for Amber Cove but nowheading west and bypassing. Weather there is sunny, 86F and 6kt wind from the west. No problems. Nothing on either of the Roll Calls. Clearly, there is something going on. Hope you get to enjoy your cruise! Let us know if you learn of something, OK? Edit: Just reported next port of call is Port Everglades, no reason given.
  11. You mean this one? https://princesscruises-me.com/ebrochures/destination/ There's also a current thread about the Cruise Atlas, and a link to the download here: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2945511-cruise-atlas/
  12. That's because you have been not been drinking good beer. @bassmk asked for beer enthusiasts on this thread and we're here to help. If all beer tasted like, let's just say a beer that has been in the news lately, I wouldn't drink beer either. You say you like a Dirty Banana and live in SoCal? If you're at a BJ's brewery, ask for a skosh of their Tatonka Stout, a Russian (some say Imperial) Stout style. There's a B.J.'s in Murfreesboro, TN for bassmk too. Let us know what kind of drink you like, and those who know beer here will tell you which kind of beer to try. Don't judge all beer by a style that has to be near freezing to be drinkable. Blech!
  13. Please let us know if you receive them. Posters are saying they receive them, but they don't say where their cruise originates. I was told you pick up Medallions at the pier on overseas sailings, which you are doing. Would be good to know. TIA.
  14. Thanks for the suggestions. Actually, we're Elite with Princess and I'm regretting I didn't buy Carnival at around 7 during Covid, because they'll open near 16 this AM. As mentioned in #14, we buy FCDs. The TA money to your OBC is the thing. We can't mention specific TA's here. Knowing which TA's do that is the mystery. We tried using a big online TA once and no money. Big box gift cards would be equally nice.
  15. Appreciate the response. Not a stockholder, usually book an OV, no Veteran benefits, book through a CVP and shorter 14 to 17 day cruises. I can see where it could add up.
  16. OK, now here's a question and I'll keep it to paying for Plus onboard so this post doesn't get deleted for going off topic. You have almost $600 OBC at boarding? We get some OBC money for our FCDs and there's always a few dollars, not enough to make a deal one way or the other, offered at a Princess sale. Once we got specialty dining, which was nice, but nearly $600 is serious OBC. Please do tell! @justafem, you too. I know the Casino trick, but that's not worth doing for small money. Even for a couple hundred, I'd just buy a watch or something. Care to share?
  17. We have a Japan cruise coming up and we will receive them at the port. I should think for your European cruise you would pick them up at the port as well.
  18. If you currently need to charge multiple devices at home, then you certainly own a hub to charge them. You may bring this with you so long as it is not surge protected. You show as Florida, so assume you have non-polarized US type A 110v 60HZ plugs. If your plugs have one prong larger than the other, or a U-ground, that won't work on Princess ships. We use a USB 3.0 to 4 outlet USB hub plugged in at the table lamp. It has to be added that some would say a vacation is a good time to disconnect from technology. Not disagreeing, but we have not been able to do this. Your mileage may vary.
  19. I live near the abandoned Princess resort, Casa Sirena. I wonder what that blunder cost them. They strayed from what they are, just a little too much. I hope they don't repeat the mistake by trying to be something they're not.
  20. Did you not know the new Star Princess is to be built on the same plan? And how any more? Here's the thing nobody has mentioned. If you build a ship that is 4300 passengers with playgrounds for kids, there is a name for that. It is called a Resort Class line. These cruises sell for between US$60and $80/pp/night inside on MSC, RCCL NCL, and Carnival Princess currently advertises $100/pp/night inside; in the Premium Class league of cruising priced plus or minus with HAL, Cunard and Celebrity. Do they drop their price to compete in the same market with other Resort Class products, or do they try to sell a bottom feeder product at a Premium Line price in an over-saturated market? Everyone is entitled to like or dislike the the idea of a playground at sea. But Princess has to answer this: Is an entry level cruise worth a Premium Class price?
  21. Something you might want to look into is the Alaska Brewing tour in Juneau. It is a city bus ride, not a Princess excursion. Let the bus driver know what you want to do. Yeah, it's Alaska. In Skagway there used to be a brew on premises pub called Skagway Brewing. With Covid takimg many tolls on business' don't know if they are still there, enjoy!
  22. It would be a help to those interested in answering your question to know where the Ruby Princess will be sailing while you are onboard. Also it would help to know what you consider a premium beer. Princess often takes on regional specialties where they are cruising. Out of Southamton for example, they had Boddington's on tap. In the Caribbean, they had Red Stripe. If you are new to Princess, you should know that they really don't know beers. Sad but true, forget Porters and Stouts, but you'll see IPAs.
  23. Putting rides on a Princess ship to attract customers is like putting a Chuck E. Cheese in a Ruth's Chris Steak House.
