  1. I’ve only ever felt the tiniest twinge of seasickness on a cross Chanel ferry when all around had succumbed a small snifter proved to be an adequate and completely acceptable cure.
  2. I agree with you Jazz I’m keeping a very close eye on this one, something definitely sounds off but will sit back and await the outcome.
  3. My father a Royal Navy man to the hilt always got seasick the first two days out he also could not watch the beginning credits of a now very old tv program called These Valiant Years, which featured a battleship fighting through huge waves - he got seasick then on dry land. If you cruise the Seine with a company that moors in Honfluer then you do cruise the maritime stretch of the river but we never noticed any untoward movement.
  4. There is at least one bridge in Lyon that has been a challenge during high water levels in the past. In 2015 we had to wait for another river cruise vessel going upstream to clear the bridge the gap above the superstructure was minuscule.
  5. Ahh now I understand I’ll leave it to Viking regulars to answer I will a so find the answer interesting.
  6. I’m sorry but I must ask this question - are you actually concerned about the quality of European water? And Soda excuse me why?
  7. Okay so not knocking Viking here as they and my story are actually getting away with it. Does the early payment policy seem similar to - sitting down at a bar in Venice’s St Marks Square knowing full well that you’ve saved up an arm and a leg for the drink that the ever smiling Italian waiter is about to deliver to your table and then actually enjoying it, because hey there’s loads of passers by who don’t realise you’ll never do it again or will only if you play the game. I’ve done the Venice bit but not the Viking but go on you may only do it once but as part of life’s rich pattern it’s worth it!
  8. As water is fluid and apart when frozen always in motion - moonriver54 has hit the mooring buoy on the head it’s all an adventure so you have to go with the flow. Looking at the angle of that barge its length and load I’m just wondering if they are concerned it might break its back. Fingers crossed they sort it soon.
  9. At first I checked the calendar and no it’s not April 1st. Although there is one plus the extra jobs this order will provide, first of all in the shipyard. And then those extra places for all who want to cruise with Viking.
  10. jsn55 don’t tell my daughters they loved walking that beach they’re both now late 40s early 50s they met a lady who was over the moon meeting two English girls, at the time the only English voices she had heard in person since becoming a war bride. What a long time, we cancelled our next venue so that she could hear as much as she wanted to.
  11. Wow I can only get away with one and I have to wait to dress it as the tree (artificial) is near a radiator that is playing up which has to be checked by an engineer on Tuesday. Watching a fascinating programme on tv about Western Australia by a guy named Bill Bailey what an interesting part of the world.
  12. Our nations yearly lovely present from Norway of a huge Christmas tree is on its way to Trafalgar Square. So if your visiting on your way through to mainland Europe have a look, it may not be as big as those in North America but it is very special.
  13. Jazz each boat cruising a different river usually has stock appertaining to area so I definitely come back from a cruise including Germany with a Steiff bear to join the rest of my, according to DH far to large Teddy Bear collection. It was a couple of the painted sardines from the Douro, silly I know but it had to be done!
  14. As they’ve only just changed to OBCs I suspect it will be tweaked as if your in one of the larger suites apart from the shop everything else is covered. I used mine on a leg massage and my husbands towards a very nice silk scarf.
  15. The Lyon’s Father Christmas with sleigh and music is due on the 17th, have stocked up with Stollen and Lebkuchen it’s been freezing and misty here very very cold. Wensleydale with cranberries is one of my favourites as well as Stilton pity you cannot find it in Germany.
  16. The season has started - advent candles in Spode Christmas Tree stands lit and burned off for the first day. Had to go to Bath on business today not again now till after the season as the market is in full swing. Looks like it will be really good for the visitors and business but locals well we won’t be visiting again just yet. Maybe the powers that be should have just a locals day, wouldn’t that be lovely. 🥰
  17. Thank you Steamboats, Stollen now added to my shopping list, I nearly forgot, the best in the U.K. are from one of two outlets both German in origin. Notamermaid those biscuits look very similar to an off the shelf already dipped in chocolate that are available here. I have a biscuit shape maker that includes a shape very similar. Do you have something anything like our Christmas pudding in Germany? I tend to make a Scottish Clouti pudding now instead it’s not quite so full of fruit.
  18. When it became possible to visit the other side of the wall my husband arranged for a coach load of customers to do just that for a meal at what was then a very indifferent restaurant. Only one forgot his passport he got through ok but they had to smuggle him back, hiding him in the coaches loo luckily he was quite a small man. I suspect like many we still have pieces of the wall that have nearly been thrown away several times until you remember.
  19. Ah ah now Ireland is Ireland regardless of Northan or Southern ok so U.K. or not the majority don’t worry who is what and who is who. It’s not us it’s them in charge.
  20. From June 2024 Eurostar will not be travelling to Amsterdam for at least 6 months partly due to work being carried out at the central station in Amsterdam. A few years ago when Eurostar ventured into travelling as far as Marsalis we used it for our South of France cruise, wonderful start but the return was spoilt somewhat by having to stop at Lille for the passport check.
  21. It conjures up a wonderful picture of butlers all dressed exactly correctly and captain's being exquisitely polite. Just before the punch up for the lead position. 😆
