  1. Same as everyone else - I think 7? there are no exceptions for YC. If stairs are an issue, take the elevator down about 15 minutes before, and then prepare to hang out until elevator service restored. There is an option (not publicized) for one person to go and get two id’s swiped in, just explain the “other” can’t do stairs.
  2. I’m looking forward to seeing him as Maitre D’ one day as we have only had him as a waiter (quite a few years ago). Always with a smile, and everyone would ask to be in his section. He was very diplomatic in suggesting what not to order!
  3. I am still waiting. Emailed them yesterday mid-day. Oceans-calling, what number did you phone? I only got a run-around by phone.
  4. I think there can be only one Arthur 😊 He was our waiter when we first sailed about 5-6 years ago on Divina, and then later again in Seaside. Hope to catch up with him one day soon. Pepe is a marvelous YC Director - he is everywhere at once! Coming back from an excursion we even saw him out directing all the incoming tour buses (not YC specific) to park since no one else had stepped up and it was a mess Really enjoyed Mehmet as Maitre D’ recently on Divina. He also manages to be everywhere and do everything. I believe he will go on vacation before the April crossing though he may stay on and do the crossing.
  5. The YC experience bears no resemblance to “regular” MSC. it is a “ship within the ship”, with its own private real estate and key access needed. Private dining, lounge/bar (canapés served all day), private pool deck with bar (light breakfast, lunch and snacks), pool, hot tub .. butler service, basically you are spoiled. Divina is our favorite YC as it is a smaller ship and the service even more personal. Drawbacks are the poolside dining is more restricted as they don’t have a kitchen up there, and you do need to walk aft to the restaurant (it is the only class of ship where the YC restaurant is not within the YC space). Personally I like the walk.
  6. these days you only need just the plug, as most devices can be used interchangeably… (not things like hair dryers, but electronics such as laptops, iPads etc)
  7. We had also done a recent crossing and booked the historic domed train as it would have been cool to follow the route by rail, but unfortunately it was cancelled. Not enough pax signed up.
  8. Not a storage hack but you’ll thank me! Ther4 are only 2 or 3 US plugs/receptacles (and no USB ports IIRC). Buy and bring a couple of adapters that allow plugging in US devices into European plugs/receptacles and you will double your available spots to plug in electronic … https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B097GCZWMM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0058EG0KC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
  9. For Columbia, consider the hop on hop off bus tour, or arrange a walking tour. The old city is a gem. What tour did you book for Colon? You mentioned you had already done a crossing … We love Divina, so many different venues throughout the ship. Consider packing several simple Europe to US plug adapters as there are not enough US plug receptacles. You can double your space if you can also use the European plug receptacles. These are two prong inserts available for around $5 from Amazon.
  10. I wonder if a common factor is having used the app on a recent voyage. My husband and I did, and sure enough first time we tried to log into the website after returning got the error message. Any others have the same experience?
  11. Despite being a seasoned MSC cruiser I have not heard of this ability to switch dates. is it “one time in a lifetime” like the status match? And a full year if booked on board?
  12. I sent an email this afternoon to that address after trying to get help online. Fingers crossed.
  13. I understand that some of the work is deepening and widening the channel for the new larger ships. Hopefully that will make it easier to dock in windy days for the smaller ships. I believe as it is Davina for example has an easier time than for example Seaside.
  14. The playoffs were available in room TV (Jan 2024) but more fun to watch in the sports bar with multiple tvs and “fans”. (Divina).
  15. Huh, I wonder what element was patented? Watch video (or not, see Carnival), go to muster station, get checked in, leave … doesn’t seem to be much IP there - after all, they check people in/out at ports all the time. (I do see how they might have secured a “trademark” for the term e-muster.)
  16. You make a good clarification - but I wa responding more broadly as to whether he could hang out until the stairways cleared. There are lots of bars where you can sit that offer nice seating, good places to hang out even when the bars are closed - plus the stairways remain crowded even after the bars re-open.
  17. Thanks, I’ll try a call. But clearly then not just a US problem
  18. I’ll agree wholeheartedly that MSC’s post-covid muster is substandard. What possible reason can there be for making everyone go to a muster station at the same time, only to be clocked in? The resulting run for an up elevator is so unnecessarily unpleasant. And before hand, making everyone climb up or down multiple flights of internal stairs without having a good system in place for those who can’t is a mistake. (This includes not only those with physical challenges, but families with small children. We saw one poor guy with two small kids, one on his shoulders, one in hand, climbing down 6 flights of stairs. Far more likely to suffer an injury there than endure a sinking!) (We were in YC. DH has a bad knee right now and can’t do stairs. First we were lied to despite a direct question as to whether we could take the elevator down (“yes of course” —— err, nope), and no record was made of any handicap that might require assistance in the event of an actual emergency. I can only imagine it to be worse in steerage…) (JK with that last quip 😀)
  19. Yes, CruiseVA I saw hat post the same way! Extremely condescending. Looks down on anyone from “fly-over country”, from no doubt a very high perch indeed 🙂 and obviously extremely “not self-aware” given the last salvo.
  20. Mark_T, what means did you use to contact them? Can you provide the email or phone number?
  21. Davy Jones (love your moniker!), what ship were you on? Some do have very good kid water parks. (Divina does not for example, but IIRC Seaside and ilk do.
  22. I just tried again, no luck. Same “country = bad” error code.
