Tipping room service

Didn't I read somewhere that there's a $3 per order charge for room service? Is this another tip like the %15 addition for drinks?

Do you always tip room service even if you have auto tipping on?

The $3 is only for delivery of pizza, the normal food there is no charge.

Yes, even with the auto tip, we still ALWAYS tip for room service delivery. The amount depends, as with others, on what we have ordered.

Princess charged $3 for a whole Pizza from Room Service. That's probably why you think there is a charge. (Or you are confusing this with some other cruise line).

Most room service food is included in your cruise fare.

There are some items (like canapes and chocolate-covered strawberries) that are extra but these are spelled out in the guest services binder (the same one you find the room service menu in).

Even for these there should be a gratuity given.

If you order bar service thru room service they will include the standard 15% gratuity.

AutoTipping does not go to the Bell Box and, therefore, you need to tip at least $2 for each trip.

I think that the $3 is for order the hot pizza.

I think I understand where I got the $3 charge from now, but all I can find on exclusions to auto tipping on Princess's site is this:

"Casino dealers and Lotus Spa® personnel do not share in the Hotel and Dining charge, as not all passengers utilize these services."

If the Bell Box isn't included in the auto tipping pool, who else isn't? This is getting me confused.

I'm not sure what a bell box is. Last Nov on our cruise we discovered the pizza delivery for $3. She said you can order as many as you like and the charge is still a one time $3 to deliver it. So,,,,,we ordered 2 pizzas. By the way,,it was delicious!!!!!!!

On our last cruise, I tipped for morning coffee, canapes, wine (forgot they added a charge), lunch on the balcony - every time I had something delivered and ran out of cash. We are again going to be in a suite (14 days) but this time I plan to have all lunches and most dinners on our balcony. We have been to all the islands and plan to just relax on the ship and enjoy the extra large balcony. BUT I'm not sure what I should tip for the dinners. Someone here said they tipped $20 for dinner while others said $10. I'm paying twice the price of a mini-suite to get the extras like MDR meals delivered to my cabin so am I being cheap not wanting to tip that much?

I guess we're cheap. We tip $1 for one cup of coffee in the morning, or $2 for our very light breakfast delivered. That's about 20% of what our order would cost stateside (2 danish, coffee, orange juice). Enough of a tip for us. Any more than that, and we'll run up and get it ourself.

I think $10 for a full meal is plenty; but that is just my opinion.

It's not like they stay and serve it, it is just brought and left.

Agree.

We also do $1 for each time fruit bowl is delivered. We tip more when we order a charge item such as cheese plate, etc.

On my previous cruises i usually tip $1 for each plate. like if we ordered two BLT's and it came with chips and 2 glasses of milk then we would tip a total of $2. Am i in line for tipping or should i think about tipping more on Princess?

I really think that is more than I want to tip. AS I said - I'm paying so much more for the cabin and full MDR dinner in our suite is one of the perks - part of their tip should come out of the fare.

Do certain room service people do a certain number of cabins or do they all cover the entire ship?

We always tip besides the automatic one and if I really like the room service person - I do add more.

I just wondering what others tip for dinner.

Not sure what a "bell box" is, but room service personnel are included in the auto-tipping pool per the Purser's desk when I asked on at least two cruises.

$2-$3 no matter what is delivered. Keep in mind this is in addition to the tipping pool they all participate in thru the auto tip.

I was under the impression that they were not included in the auto. That makes me feel better. Then $10 is way too much.

My suggestion is to bring one's and fives. The last few years we have been in a full suite and we tip for our lunch $5 and for dinner usually $7 or $8. I believe that if someone tipped a $20 for dinner it might have been the insuite dinner which they serve you a 4 course meal and it's $50 per person.

Another word for the service department, "room service" used by Princess.

If you look on your phone when you call them it says bell box.

Also on the equipment used for the UBD and carts for room service delivery have "bell box" written on them.
