Are the washers in the self-service laundry area HE or regular? I'm trying to decide what type of laundry detergent to pack.

In case anyone is following this - as near as I could tell they were regular washers, but I had brought HE detergent and it worked fine The laundry room on the Emerald deck (8) was closed the entire cruise (Sept 5 - 12) for "Maintenance."

I was on board in March and they were regular washer ( at least on Caribe deck 10). I brought some tide pods and they worked just fine. Did laundry twice on a 10 day cruise . Nice to come with most of your stuff clean[emoji3]

Don't they have detergent on board? We travel very light and I cannot see bringing my own detergent to do one wash.

Whatever detergent you bring will be fine. The dispensers do not have special detergent, HE type. So regardless, whatever you bring is fine :) I've never had a problem with the stuff I bring. I always bring pods because they are easier.

Yes, detergent is available in the laundry rooms. You swipe your card and get tokens to go in the machines or buy detergent.

This basic information is so helpful. We are planning a journey from June 13 to July 1, 2019 with a carry on and a personal item. We will have to do laundry and pack wise. I have never packed this light before for a warm location, let alone a cool/cold one. Nervous about that.

Any advice or suggestions welcome.

Some of us have allergies to a variety of soaps so I always bring my own. Nothing like having to deal with an allergic reaction on a ship.

The only difference in the detergents is the "sudsing" factor. HE detergents don't make so many suds.

All of the laundry rooms on the Coral were closed for 2 days (one of which was a day-at-sea) because of water restrictions in Alaskan waters (a crew member I asked said the crew laundry was closed during that time, too). So, you may want to be prepared for that possibility, so you don't run out of clean clothes at a critical time.
