Smoking Policy changes

I just looked at the FAQ re Regent's smoking policy and noticed what to me were two changes. (Smoking Policy) With the exception of the enclosed Connoisseur Clubs on each ship, no indoor smoking is allowed. The Voyager Lounge, the Stars Nightclub and the Stars Lounge are now non-smoking venues.

Also, the wording is a little ambiguous, but it appears that electronic cigarettes may be smoked anywhere on the ship (including suites and balconies) with the exception of dining areas.

Wow, I would love the voyager lounge and stars lounge to be no smoking. We have avoided these in the past due to the persistent smoke smell.

Agree wholeheartedly. Especially the Voyager lounge where you are directed to wait if a table is immediately unavailable in Compass Rose. Ugh.

Dave- I just reread the link you posted and it seems that cigarette smoking is still permitted in the same venues as before...what has changed?

I read this but it's not totally clear...

*Our Indoor designated smoking areas will no longer permit smoking effective February 6th onboard Seven Seas Navigator, February 11th onboard Seven Seas Voyager and February 14th onboard Seven Seas Mariner.

All-in-all--good news.

Sue and I will join Voyager at Hong Kong in four days and view, first-hand, this hopefully-new policy. There will, I assume, remain a portion of the exterior stern OUTSIDE area available for smoking.

This recent policy change will enhance the pleasure of meeting others at inside common venues for a drink or conversation without being assaulted with second-hand smoke, often no-more than a hand away.

I recently posted under a Seabourn thread extended comments about what that Line has, or has not done, to address this matter from the perspective of protecting the health of crew and staff. Our most-recent Sojourn cruise was diminished by having the lady in the next suite light-up to such an extent that we were constantly running our air conditioner at full-throttle and opening the veranda door to air out the place. That worked, to a point, until she would come out on her veranda and light-up yet again. There is no escaping second-hand smoke from an adjoining suite.

Pity the room attendant who has to venture in, twice daily, for cleaning purposes. Sue and I could hold our collective breaths in the hallway when walking past that area; the cabin attendant was not so-fortunate.

Look forward to seeing our Voyager fellow-travelers in Hong Kong.

Go ARMY!

Previously, the indoor designated smoking areas were the Voyager Lounge, the Stars Nightclub and the Stars Lounge. As the quoted language in Responder's post indicates, as of Feb. 6th on Navigator, Feb. 11th on Voyager and Feb. 14th on Mariner, smoking will no longer be permitted in those venues. Hope this clears up any confusion. :D

This is really good news! Smoking is a difficult habit to break but it is equally difficult to deal with in such close quarters. We know there are people who need a place to smoke and hope that this change in smoking areas will work for smokers and non-smokers.

This is really a very good policy change. We selected Regent and rejected Seabourne because of the smoking policy. If allowed in staterooms, the nicotine residue impregnates the carpet and fabric and is difficult to clean for the next passenger. On the Voyager, we avoided the lounge that allowed smoking and held our breath in the section of the pool area and the Connoissers Club as we passed by. Smoking is a very difficult addiction to kick, but, like any addiction, it becomes an intolerable problem when it impacts those around you.

FYI, along the smoking concerns, a fellow Regent long time cruiser just finished 38 days on board the Mariner and had an outstanding SoAm voyage, their one negative:

We smelled cigarette smoke in our room several times (we were directly above the Connisuer Club Smoking Lounge) and every time someone came up they said they couldn't smell anything (Remember the "Can Not Duplicate" box on military maintenance forms?). I kept complaining, eventually to the GM and finially (24 days in) a new Chief Engineer came and told me that one of the exhaust vents in the Conniseur Lounge had been blocked and the problem was now rectified.

Therefore, our approach to booking a suite on any Regent or for that matter other lux line will be to ensure we do not book a suite directly above the conniseur lounge.

Where on the RSSC website is the policy change listed? I looked at FAQ's and it appears the same:

[/i]In addition, cigarette, electronic cigarette or cigar smoking is not permitted in any enclosed dining areas, whether it be the ships' main dining rooms, the alternate dining venues or the outdoor dining areas. Eletronic cigratte smoking is premitted throughout the ship with the exception of the dinning areas mentioned above. Cigarette smoking is only permitted in designated areas of the outdoor pool area and the following public rooms:

Seven Seas Voyager: Connoisseur Club, Voyager Lounge* (Indoor designated area), Horizon Lounge (Outdoor one side designated area), Pool area (Designated area opposite side of the Pool Bar)

Seven Seas Mariner: Connoisseur Club, Stars Nightclub* (Indoor designated area), Horizon Lounge (Outdoor one side designated area), Pool area (Designated area opposite side of the Pool Bar)

Seven Seas Navigator: Connoisseur Club, Stars Lounge* (Indoor designated area), Galileo's (Outdoor one side designated area), Pool area (Designated area opposite side of the Pool Bar)

clicking on the link above reading 2nd to last point, smoking in lounges is prohibited after these dates as your paste includes the

asterisk--here is what the asterisk says:

*Our Indoor designated smoking areas will no longer permit smoking effective February 6th onboard Seven Seas Navigator, February 11th onboard Seven Seas Voyager and February 14th onboard Seven Seas Mariner.

Thanks, Wes, for your eagle eye! Indeed, I did not look at the asterisk! At any rate, I'm very pleased with this policy change. Remember when smoking was permitted on airlines? My worst experience was being seated just in front of the smoking section on a transatlantic flight. The man behind me was chain smoking Gauloise cigarettes. The flight was completely full so no possibility of moving. The Swedish gentleman next to me had been in transit for 2 days without the benefit of deodorant. On hour 4, I developed a migraine, and it went downhill from there. Fortunately, I got to cut the unbelievably long bathroom line when I arrived with my airsickness bag in hand!

The casino isn't mentioned in any of the above posts..... will there be smoking permitted at the casino bar or not?

It would seem not -

"Our Indoor designated smoking areas will no longer permit smoking" with the effective dates for each ship.

The only indoor area not asterisked was the Connoisseur Club.

Cigarette smoking is only permitted in designated areas of the outdoor pool area and the following public rooms:

Seven Seas Voyager: Connoisseur Club, Voyager Lounge* until February 11th (Indoor designated area), Horizon Lounge (Outdoor one side designated area), Pool area (Designated area opposite side of the Pool Bar)

Seven Seas Mariner: Connoisseur Club, Stars Nightclub* until February 14th (Indoor designated area), Horizon Lounge (Outdoor one side designated area), Pool area (Designated area opposite side of the Pool Bar)

Seven Seas Navigator: Connoisseur Club, Stars Lounge* until February 6th (Indoor designated area), Galileo's (Outdoor one side designated area), Pool area (Designated area opposite side of the Pool Bar)

Put more clearly once all the effective date conditionals are removed:

Cigarette smoking is only permitted in designated areas of the outdoor pool area and the following public rooms:

Seven Seas Voyager: Connoisseur Club, Horizon Lounge (Outdoor one side designated area), Pool area (Designated area opposite side of the Pool Bar)

Seven Seas Mariner: Connoisseur Club, Horizon Lounge (Outdoor one side designated area), Pool area (Designated area opposite side of the Pool Bar)

Seven Seas Navigator: Connoisseur Club, Galileo's (Outdoor one side designated area), Pool area (Designated area opposite side of the Pool Bar)

Cigar Smoking is only permitted in the Connoisseur Club and the designated area on the opposite side of the Pool Bar.

Pipe smoking is only permitted in the Connoisseur Club.

Eletronic cigratte (sic) smoking is premitted (sic) throughout the ship with the exception of the ships' main dining rooms, the alternate dining venues or the outdoor dining areas.

I didn't even realize that smoking had been prohibited in the casinos. Dave. I guess I really didn't spend much time there on our last 17 night cruise.

Thanks for the new information. In fairness to the passengers who smoke, I think Regent should now spell out the policy more clearly on its web site. This significant change should be more than just a footnote.

Tom.
