Villagemdu Posted December 25, 2012 #201 Share Posted December 25, 2012 Once on Carnival I was spending the last 30 bucks on my card on the final evening at 1am. Ended up winning 6000 on the next to last spin on a 2345 times pay 4 reel dollar machine. Cashed out and went to bed.Prior to that won over 8000 playing 3 card poker over the last 4 days on the ship on Majesty of seas.:D

redhotfill Posted June 19, 2013 #205 Share Posted June 19, 2013 ANY LUCK ON HAL SHIPS? Best I'v done was on a quarter machine on Zaandam hit for $200 max bet I think was $1.25 Must say the quarter fliper on that ship was the biggest rip ever I know they are mony suckers in the first place but that one was constantly "tilting" and keeping ALL the coins that fell not just on the sides. *** UPDATE ***** Hit the 5X pay 25 cent machine for 6000 coins on Zaandam on the first pull! Casino on Westerdam no fun though.

MrMan Posted June 23, 2013 #207 Share Posted June 23, 2013 The shareholders of the cruiselines and the casino concessionaires are delighted to have as many players as possible reminisce about the time they won a big jackpot in a cruise ship casino. Moreover, those who were multiple winners are really adored by the "house' because they are the biggest losers of all for just as surely as night follows day, those who play the most lose the most. I am not opposed to all gambling. I like to play poker, bridge for money, even bet at the track (where the odds are not applied uniformly to the universe of betters), but I can not fathom the mindset of those who spend their $ and time at the machines and the tables in cruise ship casinos. Except perhaps for the card counters who can eke out favorable odds against the house at 21. I have no objection to their gambling, mind you, because their play helps to underwrite the cost of my cruise. No doubt the casino revenue helps to hold down the basic price of any cruise. I am incapable of wrapping my mind around the concept that someone could enjoy a game of chance knowing the odds were stacked against them. The response frequently offered by gamblers as to why they indulge, to wit, "it's fun" or "it's worth the expense for the entertainment it affords" often combined with "and I only play with a set amount of money" fail to convince me. How can someone have fun knowing they are sure to lose if they continue playing. In the long run there are NO winners in a casino except the house. Furthermore, I suspect the unpublished machine odds in cruise ship casinos are significantly lower than in other shoreside gambling meccas. No doubt they have the lattitude to adopt the most favorable regulations available just like cruise lines can flag their ships in countries with favorable employment and tax laws. Ergo the casinos ar not required to publish their payout odds or probably even adopt a minimum payout. Anyone care to bet? In any case, keep playing. I like being able to buy a cabin on a nice ship for less than $200 /day. While you are at it, take a few more excursions, buy enlarged photos, and get some spa treatments. I have stopped sitting at tables of eight in dining as there is always delightful conversation at the table until the one Debbie Downer begins to lecture on the state oe the cruise line, the temperature of the hot tubs, how can one survive without a highlighter, magnets,or extension cord, bingo, the art sale, or gasp the casino odds. Gambling is a social event and partcipate to have fun and make new friends. Look at any craps table and see the fun. The gambler is not concerned about the odds, they are having a good time, just like the guy in the cigar bar smoking his cigar or the lady buying inches of gold. If these activities don't interest you no worries, there is always the library.

tweakes Posted May 9, 2014 #210 Share Posted May 9, 2014 I hit the $7,500 Platinum Quick Hit progressive ($1.50 bet on penny slots) on Carnival a few years ago. I asked how often someone won, he said it averages about every cruise someone wins a decent slots jackpot. I was a bit tipsy (okay, I was drunk) and was just hitting the button and not looking at the screen. Then I was confused and thought I won $750 before I realized there was another 0. I sobered up very quickly after that. But then I suddenly didn't worry about my bar tab anymore... :)

Brockwest Posted June 6, 2014 #215 Share Posted June 6, 2014 I've won frequently on cruise slots (never the gigantic payouts, usually the $400 range), by following advice I read on this forum. Many cruise lines set their slots to pay out a lot on the first night out, and somewhat on the last night, then make the machines cold as ice the middle of the cruise. I tested the theory and it has worked many times for me, but usually only on the first night, not the last. Trying to avoid the slots in the middle of the cruise when you are at your most bored and the lights are flashing is very hard, but if you avoid them during the middle of the cruise, you tend to come out a winner. Awkwardly, the cruise only pays in cash, which makes you look suspicious at customs. I've spent a lot of time in customs after the cruise explaining why I have so much cash on my person. One cruise frustrated me. I took a new date and her spoiled daughter on the cruise. I successfully won the mini-jackpot (about $500) the first night, then advised her NOT to play again for mid-cruise. Her daughter absolutely lost her mind over the jackpot, and went to the money stash repeatedly during mid-cruise and lost it all. Mid-cruise slots is very frustrating...to go 10 and 20 spins without even a two coin return defeats the fun. Vegas's secret is they set their slots to pay off somewhat less than half the time, so you get a lot of Pavlovian feed-back, even though you are gradually losing. You walk away happy and spend more. swazzie1 Posted June 13, 2014 #219 Share Posted June 13, 2014 I won a minor jackpot (around $40) on a penny slot machine on one of my cruises last month. It was one of those machines where the minor jackpot is won before it reaches $50 and the major jackpot is won before reaching $500.

M4dC0w Posted June 15, 2014 #221 Share Posted June 15, 2014 (edited) How much cash did you have and why did the customs folks even know you had it? Customs (Canadian & American) doesn't give a damn, unless its over $10,000, and that's only if you don't declare it. If you win a big jackpot, you take a picture of the machine or have other proof that it isn't the proceeds of crime and they don't do anything. Having a few hundred to a few thousand, they wouldn't blink an eye about it. Also, if you win a big enough jackpot, they will have a cheque written for you if you request it.
