Can'tstopcruising Posted November 23, 2009 #51 Share Posted November 23, 2009 If you prepay up front, you pay with a credit card and cannot reduce or eliminate them once on board since you paid them before you got on the ship... Are you sure? According to Smeyer, you can use the $$ as on OBC.
Happy Cruiser 6143 Posted November 23, 2009 #52 Share Posted November 23, 2009 Are you sure? According to Smeyer' date=' you can use the $$ as on OBC.[/quote'] Prepaid gratuities and OBC are two completely different things. Once you've prepaid your gratuities, the only way you can adjust them is by giving more in cash to your favorite waiter, etc. You do not get OBC for prepaying your gratuities. Exactly, pre paid are done once your on the ship, you can't change them and they are totally different than those put on your account...
Rare uktog Posted November 24, 2009 #54 Share Posted November 24, 2009 If you have pre paid gratuities upfront through a UK booking which is subject to different rules than in the US it will appear on your boarding documents as prepaid service charge. As I understand it you cannot remove it - which is what you have to do with prepaid gratuities. I am advised this is because of the terms of UK bookings We have never wanted to remove our gratuities - our usual practice is to hand extra cash to the very good staff rather than be seeking reduction. When we have issues (and yes we have had them) our approach is a quiet word in the Maitre D or Chief Housekeepers ear. Worst case it would be a comment on the comment card - these steps are far more effective longer term than with holding a tip which the senior management may or may not be aware of
