Mariner 11/22-11/29

Recommended Posts

Just finished a great trip on the MOS, overall I would rate it a 10! CD Dan W. was fantastic! We spoke with him briefly and seemed to really enjoy his job and it showed! Capt. Johnny was over the top! Very visable and wanting this to be 'our best cruise ever'. I did think it was a little too over the top; way too many times telling us the above and way too many times telling us he has the best crew. He also seemed to cross over the line into CD, reading the compass twice a day to pax, we could do without this. I believe he does have an oustanding crew and should be proud of them!

Ports were fun; beach, horse back riding, zip line, ..... Food was at least good if not great (Portofinos & Chops). Ship is in excellent condition.

Kids club was enjoyed by our children. I would like to see them utilize the on board compter system for the kids club. It would be nice to provide all of the info when you first board (when the get their wrist bracelets). They could then just swipe the parents card when checking them into the club. Lines were long each night to drop off and pick up (up to 30 minutes). Would like to see the same for the realease forms; do them once and have it electronically noted on the sea pass. Overall the childrens programs were wonderfull.

Just one more add'l thought; how do they pick out the carpet throughout the ship. It all reminds me of casino carpet; very busy so you tend to look up. They even use this in the staterooms. We were lucky enough to have a GS and even these rooms had the 'casino carpet'. I understand the need for wear and tear and to cover stains, but I think this could be achieved with other carpet choices. Not a big thing, just wondering. I know if I checked into a hotel room with carpet like that I would be a little surprised.

Overall great trip, one of our best cruises ever!

Hi, Got Out There!

I'm glad your kids enjoyed the kids' program! I have two questions:

1. What age groups were your kids in?

2. Were the Kid's Dinners at Johnny Rockets scheduled for nights 2, 5, and 6?

Thanks much! :)

Glad you enjoyed the Mariner! It is a beautiful ship. We had such a great time in August, that we just had to book another trip on the Mariner of the Seas......I can't wait...:D

We had Capt. Per and Abe Hughes on our last sailing..thought they both did a great job....unfortunately I don't think we will get a chance to sail with Capt. Johnny, as I read that he was changing ships next year......

Karen

p.s. Love your screen name. :)

Hi, Got Out There!

I'm glad your kids enjoyed the kids' program! I have two questions:

1. What age groups were your kids in? 6-8 and 9-11, they both really liked the program. They usual only went at night after dinner, however they did go in the afternoon on the last sea day.

2. Were the Kid's Dinners at Johnny Rockets scheduled for nights 2, 5, and 6? They went on night 2, not sure what other nights were offered. You sign up during the day and meet at JRs @ 5:45pm. The do not charge a cover charge.

Thanks much! :)

Also, I should have mentioned getting on and off the ship was the fastest we have ever had. Arrived around 11:15 no lines to check in and walked right on. We did express departure, left the stateroom at 8:05 and we were sitting at our LAX departure gate at 9:05 for a 10:15 flight.

Entertainment was preety good too! I would strongly recommend this cruise!

What did you do specifically for your excursions? We have 2 teens and are looking for ideas :)

We did this trip in August with my 14 year old DS and 19 year old DD. They both loved Randi's Happy Horses in Mazatlan and Los Veranos Canopy tour in Puerto Vallarta. In Cabo we did the beach, but wish we had done one of the snorkeling trips.

No matter what you and your teens will love the Mariner. We were on the same sailing as Craving and are very jealous she is getting to go back again!

My 14 year old granddaughter and friend and 43 year old son-in-law swam with the dolphins in Cabo and they all said it was the best adventure they had ever gone to. My wife and I watched (margarita in hand) while they had a blast.

The venue is 5 minutes from the pier and very convenient while visiting in Cabo. I think the cost was $145 each and we purchased two dolphin kiss photo's for $50. It was very rewarding when my granddaughter, friend and son-in-law gave me a big hug and thanked us after the swim.

There were five groups of 8 to 9 people and each person either got to ride a boogie board or on the dolphin fins. I would recommend riding on the boogie board as it was 10 time faster them the dolphin fins. My kids rode the fins.

Even though it was Thanksgiving week and and there were three ships in port I had no problem getting last minute reservations on the ship.

It's great to see that the Mariner is getting it's kinks out here on the west coast since August. We enjoyed our cruise but found lousy service(dining room) and food(windjammer). Service was great everywhere else. I thought embarkation took a little longer then it should have and the first group didn't disembark until after 9am because of an "customs error". Glad to see the port is adapting to this big of a ship. And glad you had a great time!
