Rotterdam Posted December 2, 2009 #1 Share Posted December 2, 2009 I am new to Azamara cruises(tho I sailed Celebrity several times back in the 1990's). We are looking to sail on the Journey in January 2010 for 16 days - San Diego - Miami. we look forward to Country club casual dress code - the smaller ship w/ less passengers & good space ratio along with (from what I red) good service & food onboard. My one question is concerning evening entertainment - we are not party people but do enjoy cocktail hour & after dinner drinks w/ sometimes going to a niteclub onboard. We like the idea of some quiet evenings but I'm concerned it might be too quiet - we are a 48 & 51 years old. Can someone fill us in on what goes on in the evenings onboard.... thank you! critterchick Posted December 2, 2009 #3 Share Posted December 2, 2009 If you do a search for posts by me (critterchick - include Journey in the search or you'll get too many) you will find my diary of our PC transit last year. You will have no trouble finding cocktails or nightcaps.:) There aren't a lot of activities after dinner except for the show or going up to the Looking Glass for dancing (combo early, DJ late). We also had a harpist and a piano bar player who performed in the Mosaic (is that it?) cafe, where you could get a limited number of cocktails. Of course you could always go to a full bar and carry your drink over. I think our voyage on the Journey was an anomaly - we had some issues with food and service, but many people before and after us had none, so I'm hopeful that you will have the same good fortune. Redtravel Posted December 5, 2009 #7 Share Posted December 5, 2009 On cruises less than 10 days, you get a nice mix of ages with more night life. On the longer cruises, most people are old. There is a nightly show except when the ship is in port overnight. The cruise director made jokes about the few people who joined him each night after the show for dancing in the lounge. We never went. There are lounges and the casino, but most are on the quiet side. We often found ourselves alone watching a lounge act or just sitting on deck sipping coffee. Most folks go to bed. I liked the Journey, but found it on the quiet side. The library has a nice selection of books. Cabin tvs show movies ( no movie theater)
nikless Posted December 5, 2009 #8 Share Posted December 5, 2009 Hey Red, When I was 10, I thought my 30 year old parents were old! Not knowing your age, what is your definition of "old". We're on a 12 night Journey cruise in Feb. Please advise of your prediction of the demographics for that cruise. My guess is you won't find a lot of the "young" guido & guidettes on board. vana Posted December 6, 2009 #10 Share Posted December 6, 2009 we are booking next week!!!!! Hi, I misread your post and though you were booked already. Don't hesitate to book, we are in our 40's and the quiet side (if so) didn't scare us. The myth of quitter cruise on transat and on X was undone everytime we did a transat, and we had a ball :D... See you there
