I didn't select any of your choices, but came here to say that I would rather the cruise cost more up front to KEEP the quality and traditions that once were.

I would pay and enjoy the higher price as long as everyone else pays the same for the same catagory and get all these:

The highest quality food in the dining room (like it used to be)

The midnight buffets (traditions die hard)

The tuxes and formal gowns on formal nights (yes, when you are on a more expensive cruise, you get a more "Formal" group of people)

Etc., Etc., (bring back all that RCI/Celebrity elliminated to "Cut Costs")

Some of us have! Silversea is at the top of our list at the moment - with less than 400 guests on board we enjoy being a name and not a number.

I'd love to sail one of the six star lines.... just not economically a good pick for us.

I see chief joe sailed the Sea Breeze. Twice! http://www.chesterahoy.com/SHIPS/cs2.htm

I too sailed the Sea Breeze back in 1995 and that ship, as old as it was, was still fun but in no way could be rated anywhere as high as Carnival/NCL/RCI etc.

BTW We have a small claim to fame. We also sailed the Sea Diamond which, like the Sea Breeze sank.:( That's two. :(

I'd pay more for a few things like a drink package that fits (the ones introduced don't) or name brand entertainment.... but I kindalike the way things are.

I prefer the rates to stay low enough to afford...

For those that want a more expensive cruise, there are other options. And to talk like cheaper rates mean a "Carnival" atmosphere, that is just crap. Celebrity is a great cruise line and they are NEVER going to make rates sky high so only the snobs can afford to cruise. I think they still offer a great product to a wide range of people.

Those that are so steeped in tradition that they refuse to explore other ways of cruising, should stick with Cunard or go with the smaller more luxury lines. For me, I will stick with Celebrity. I think they are still the best in the large ship market that offer something for a large variety of passengers.

It's nice us commoners can afford to cruise on such a great line...

Well stated. :)

Our upcoming "X" cruise in three weeks will be our first with Celebrity, but our tenth or eleventh cruise company.

Only Louis Cruises disappointed us.... and we didn't care because the itinerary was so beautiful (Mediterranean) (did I mentioned that the Sea Diamond sank the following season )

There's always something to improve but IMHO cruising has never been a better bang for the buck.

My wish is that the cruise lines would revert to the level of service of the late 90's (my time prespective when I started sailing) and at those prices. :)

I do not like 'a la carte' and being nickled and dimed nor do I like fully inclusive as the cost most likely would be covering things I do not use, so............. my choice is to go back to a time where pricing seemed reasonable to me and there was lots of service/product quality, IMHO.

Hard to satisify everyone and I do understand cruise lines trying things, making changes especially when they feel the benefit is not being used to justify the cost. I am in business and we make similiar decisions at times.

I would be unlikely to pay for any of the things you listed, but I would consider paying more for an all inclusive package. That is unlikely to include massages and most of my charges are in the spa and on drinks with a little going to specialty dining. I don't like to feel nickeled and dimed on board. But I don't want to put myself in the position of wanting to make sure I get my moneys worth. We will see how I feel about the all inclusive plan when I sail on the Xpedition next year.

I enjoy X because they reach a good balance between quality and value in my opinion and with my budget. Unfortunately they also attract a number of people who have just enough money to be obnoxious. Thank goodness all the really wonderful people on board (passengers and crew alike) create an atmosphere that makes it easy to ignore the pettiness.

.

I believe that when corrected to inflation the price for cruses is almost half what it was back in the 90's.

As I recall a cruise we took in 1992 on the incredibly huge Carnival Holiday (45,000 ton!!!!) :D for an OV cabin on the main deck for a 7 day fla-Caribbean sailing was almost $2.5K for the two of us. That's NOT corrected to inflation, that's what it cost.

I think the idea of "giving them an inch will mean they'll take a yard" would apply here. Where would all these extra charges stop? Once you give the cruise line the idea that you'd pay for one thing, they'd get the idea that you'd most likely pay for a lot of things, many of which were probably included in the past. I don't want to give cruise lines any idea that I wouldn't mind paying for even one thing extra. I mean, RCI has already done some of this with their Royal Promenade and all the extra charge things there---who in their right mind would pay $2.50 for a cupcake? I guess their are some suckers who do, but not me.

At this point in time, the percentage of respondents who prefer an all inclusive cruise fare is very similar to the percentage of people who who responded that they prefer the current trend of relatively low cruise rates coupled with additional fees for various a la carte services.

I would pay extra for all-inclusive drinks (like on land resorts). I don't drink that much but I like ordering what I want without having a bill at the end of the trip.

I would also pay extra for a higher passenger/space ratio. I hate feeling crowded.

I would be delighted if the tips were made a part of the total cruise fare, with the ability to tip extra at the discretion of the customer. This would assure a more fair arrangement for the staff, and save a considerable amount of time by eliminating the posts on these boards of those who oppose tipping.

I'd pay a higher fare for upgraded food and better entertainment. I'd pay a fee just to avoid a sailing where one of the featured shows is a juggler :D. I'd love to see a fantastic quality play with name actors.

But I am also okay with paying extra for the things that are important to me - like specialty dining and drinks. We pay for the experience and great service, so as long as that doesn't change then I guess I'm not going to rock the boat too much.

We aren't gourmet enough to enjoy Regent or one of the top tier cruiselines, but we do enjoy a couple of great meals over the course of the week. Maybe when I win PowerBall tonight we'll upgrade. :p
