monkeyrouge Posted December 31, 2009 #1 Share Posted December 31, 2009 Please tell me if this dress would be ok to wear on a regular night to dinner? I live in Florida so at least I could wear this at other times too. I kind of picture wearing it with a bit of retro flair :D I know they are a bit kitchy but I like them. Rare Lois R Posted December 31, 2009 #2 Share Posted December 31, 2009 Pretty colors:)...are you asking about casual nights on the ship? I think they would be just fine:D
cb at sea Posted December 31, 2009 #3 Share Posted December 31, 2009 Sure---they would be fine on casual nights! Pretty!
mehitabel Posted December 31, 2009 #4 Share Posted December 31, 2009 I think they're charming! If you can find some retro/vintage Bakelite or maybe even wooden jewelry to go with, you'd look like someone out of "Mad Men"!
California Native Posted January 1, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 1, 2010 Appropriate for casual nights... though I might not wear them for a European cruise. Mexico and Caribbean definatly and if you are on a Hawaii and/or South Pacific Cruise you will find them widespread in the dining room! Accesorized with various types of leis around the neck and flowers in the hair!
iheartbda Posted January 1, 2010 #6 Share Posted January 1, 2010 I think you just might look more like what the ladies wore in the bygone days of cruising.....IMO, that's a good thing.:)
Cozzette2 Posted January 1, 2010 #7 Share Posted January 1, 2010 I love them, where did you find them. I love the one on the bottom. I think they are really fun:D
monkeyrouge Posted January 1, 2010 Author #8 Share Posted January 1, 2010 I will most likely be on a Caribbean cruise so I thought tropical would be nice. These are actually from a seller on Ebay called Rose*Villa. I have been eye balling these dresses for a long time. I see that she even has a mens shirt that matches a couple of the dresses. Now I have to figure out what kind of shoes I would wear with these? Like I said I picture retro.
bplazo Posted January 1, 2010 #9 Share Posted January 1, 2010 I also like the bottome one.
jkudzu Posted January 1, 2010 #10 Share Posted January 1, 2010 I wore them on our cruise last summer. Got lots of compliments. I also found mine on Ebay. By the way, they're really comfortable too.
mehitabel Posted January 1, 2010 #11 Share Posted January 1, 2010 For shoes, I think a metallic neutral would fit nicely with the retro vibe. Also, you could do white, but white shoes tend to look kind of clompy on adults in my opinion. These are cute. And these might be good. If you want a little lower heel, these are adorable. If you're not feeling the sandals, I think chic cork wedges, not too chunky, would look well with the dresses too.
Jan_In_Maine Posted January 1, 2010 #12 Share Posted January 1, 2010 I wore similar on one cruise for casual. Mine was purple with parrots. I also found it on e-bay ... It was a fun dress. Jan
simplelife Posted January 1, 2010 #13 Share Posted January 1, 2010 Really cute and they look so comfortable for a warm night in the tropics. The colors and patterns are really beautiful and lend to the tropical feeling. Great choice for "regular" nights.
iheartbda Posted January 1, 2010 #14 Share Posted January 1, 2010 Please tell me if this dress would be ok to wear on a regular night to dinner? I live in Florida so at least I could wear this at other times too. I kind of picture wearing it with a bit of retro flair I know they are a bit kitchy but I like them. I think this kind of dress begs for espadrilles. Call me crazy but yes, I might even do the print.:D
lhanson38 Posted January 1, 2010 #15 Share Posted January 1, 2010 These are really cute very retro. The only problem I see with them is if your busty as I am they never look right something about that bodice just dos'nt look right.:(
monkeyrouge Posted January 1, 2010 Author #16 Share Posted January 1, 2010 Thank you all for your help. I am not a fashion person at all. I dress in what I like and I do not follow trends so I want to make sure I was not commiting a major faux-pas or anything ;)
Happy ks Posted January 1, 2010 #17 Share Posted January 1, 2010 I'm not a bright color person, so I like the one in the middle the best. If I had this dress I'd wear it in Hawaii, off the ship with a pair of flip flops, no heels. I'd not wear it to dinner, but we're all different and that's a good thing. Edit to add, I do think your dresses are cute!
boop3 Posted January 2, 2010 #18 Share Posted January 2, 2010 I thing strappy espadrilles would look good too. The kind you wrap around your ankle.
jp2001 Posted January 2, 2010 #19 Share Posted January 2, 2010 The dresses are perfect for dinner on casual night, IMHO (unless you're going on a very upscale line such as Crystal, Silversea or even Cunard). I think the red espadrilles shown here would work well with all dresses (with the brown one, you could also have a necklace with a little red too). These are really cute very retro. The only problem I see with them is if your busty as I am they never look right something about that bodice just dos'nt look right.:( I agree. I LOVE this type of dresses but I am very small busted and often I think they don't look right on larger chested women (either showing too much or the breasts looks too low for such a fitting type of bodice). If you are small to medium busted and the girls are up, I say go for it!

monkeyrouge Posted January 3, 2010 Author #21 Share Posted January 3, 2010 The busty comments have me worried now. I am especially gifted in that department. That is one reason I like these dresses because of the stretchy top. I have a very hard time finding dresses because of my chest size.
Sugar*Magnolia Posted January 3, 2010 #22 Share Posted January 3, 2010 Awesome for casual nights. Very kitchy, like someone mentioned pair some bakelite if you can and dont forget a retro purse and voila! Cruise wonderful. Enjoy.
Jan_In_Maine Posted January 3, 2010 #23 Share Posted January 3, 2010 The busty comments have me worried now. I am especially gifted in that department. That is one reason I like these dresses because of the stretchy top. I have a very hard time finding dresses because of my chest size. I wear a DD and didn't have a problem with the top - there was plenty of material so it didn't look as if it was stretched too tight. Jan
