regarding pools on a cruise ship

OK this may seem like a dumb question, but from what i have previously read all the pools on a cruise ship are salt water. Why is that?

They can pump the salt water out of the ocean. it is free.

It is filtered----clear as freshwater, tho. Until you're in it, you won't know it's salt-water. There's a freshwater shower on deck, so you can rinse the salt water off, before you sun. (Otherwise, you tend to get a film of dried salt on you!!!)

Princess ships have fresh water.

As well as some other ships that have heated pools.

There are a few lines that have fresh water pools. Princess and I think also Holland America. There may be others too.

Not all pools on all lines are saltwater; however, the saltwater is emptied each night and fresh saltwater pumped in each day, which we feel is much more sanitary for whatever reason.

:p I remember the first cruise I took. I couldn't wait to jump in the crystal clear water. YIKES! A mouth full of salt water caught me completely off guard! Then of course, the water was freezing as well and we couldn't hardly stand to be in it.
