LIVE From The Oasis of the Seas!

Recommended Posts

beethanks1-1.gif?t=1264556229Trainman for sharing your cruise with us. I started reading this thread because I was curious about the Oasis. We have only cruised with Princess and will continue cruising with them....but after reading your wonderful descriptions and seeing those pictures - we now have a cruise booked on the Oasis this October. Yes, RCI does owe you big time.

I'm really looking forward to this cruise.

They do have a non smoking section in the casino but I'm not sure how many paid attention to it. The Let It Ride table area was non smoking. The casino was very smokey. Hard for me to stay in there.

When I was on Freedom in August, the 2 formal nights were designated non-smoking - was this unique to the Freedom, or is it something they are planning to do fleet wide?

I remember that on the Freedom also. They need to make this fleet wide. There should be a couple of nights with no smoking allowed. It doesn't have to be both formal nights but any two would be great.

I'm another Oasis/Alure "one of these days" cruisers, but your posts let me "be" there before I "am" there! Pics were great! We also have cruised out of Port Canaveral several times due to it's "short" drive from Atlanta!

I work nights in a hospital pharmacy and your thread was a great nights reading!

I also hope to spend my "older, slower" years taking as many cruises as I can!

But the nice thing about doing it on formal night is that people wear clothes that can't just be thrown into the washing machine. At least on the other nights any of my clothes that end up reaking of smoke can easily be made to smell like Tide detergent again!

Pillow Chocolates

YES! They are back!

The Dove Milk Chocolates have "Secret Messages" printed on the inside of the wrappers. Be sure to read them!

Hello! I really enjoyed seeing your photos...thank you!

I was just on my 10 night honeymoon on the Explorer (Jan. 14th-24th) and we didn't receive any choc. on our pillows :( ....they sure are doing some cut-backs! This cruise was my husband and I's first Diamond cruise and we really didn't receive many "extras". We still enjoyed ourselves and hope to cruise on the Oasis very soon!!

That was our feeling.........but with your detailed reports and your fantastic photos, it makes us now want to see the ship up close and personal.

Ahoy Jim and Carol :-)

Like so many have already said - thank you very much for

taking us along on your wonderful cruise. I looked forward

each day to reading of your adventures on the Oasis. I had

thought that it was much to large to consider for a cruise.

However, your daily posts and pictures have changed my mind

and I'll try to book a cruise on her in the future. Like you,

my favorite is the Radiance class for those ships are beautiful.

Last year, we cruised on the Mariner and was impressed by

the ship and didn't find the large size to be a problem.

I have emailed your thread to myself so when I want to

re-read it, I just open my email. I'll also look forward to

reading your future live posts.

Here's wishing you and Carol a safe trip home and a joyous

reunion with your two little furry family members.

May you have fair skies and calm seas on all of your future

cruises.

Tonight we had dinner in the Seafood Shack instead of the MDR.

The entire area was almost empty but we enjoyed the food. There was a single $8.95 cover charge for the two of us.

Seafood Dip was good, Perhaps a bit too "fishy"

Crab Cakes were good.

Seafood Gumbo in a Bread Bowl was Excellent!

The Cajun Popcorn Shrimp were Excellent!

and thanks for sharing so much personal with us...I usually try to show extra care when seasoned citizens are around...I just think about if it were my Mom how I'd hope people would treat her...I will also make sure to be more aware of others who may not be able to move as quickly s the rest of us...

I am glad to hear you all enjoyed the Seafood Shack...I was beginning to think we were the only ones...haha

;) This reminds me of my DH on his 50th birthday... We were having lunch out and he ordered a Caesar salad' date=' but instead mistakenly said "I'll have the [i']Senior[/i] Salad". I like your 'seasoned citizens', ILuvCruisin'. :D

I agree.... Last year we followed Captain Bill on his live from Royal Princess 109 day voyage. It was spectacular. I would say Trainman's is equal to Captain Bill's postings.

Thanks again Trainman. You have made the anticipation of our November cruise even better!

At least we know Trainman won't leave us hanging at the end of his trip and state that he wasn't going to post anymore!! I read Bill's posts everyday but felt the way he ended the thread was most disappointing. Trainman, thanks for your posts esp. the pics......makes us look forward to our May trip even more. We actually have reserved a Central Park balcony cabin, thought it would be something different. We learned early on in our Mariner/Promenade view rooms to keep the private stuff private!!!

Thank you so much, Trainman, and thank you so much for loving Carol the way you do. I married my best friend late in life, second marriages for both of us. We started cruising even later in life and he is having back and leg problems, making ambulation an issue at times. Doesn't matter, I would carry him piggyback if need be. We have both enjoyed all your entries and are looking forward to sailing on the new Allure in Jan 2011. We wish many more wonderful sailings for you and Carol and await your wonderful reviews!

Trainman what a great job you did with all those post's, we are booked on Oasis in Sept and driving down from Orlando, could you or anyone else tell me about the Parking at F/L Port, do you have to pre-book or just roll up and park, also what about prices.

thanks again

You do not have to pre-book...You just park at the parking garage....The cost is 15 per day unless the charges are due to go up...;)

$15 per day is a little steep. I'll have to check out parking at the airport and take a shuttle or taxi pier side.

I just wanted to point out that as of today this thread has had almost 100,000 visitors. That's amazing to me. I know that's not 100,000 different readers. Probably more like a few thousand visitors who've returned here dozens of times each, but that's still a HUGE audience. I'd be surprised if professionals who write for major travel publications/sites have an audience that size.

That's just plain COOL.

Good job Trainman!

And good job Cruise Critic!

TRAIN-MAN has said good-bye. Will this thread live on? This might be a nice place to post a continuing Oasis thread. We'll see. Post a question or a statement for Oasis and let us see what happens. Here is mine -where should I go on the ship to have a nice after dinner drink with live/fun music to dance to?

Well, maybe some other folks who sail on Oasis in the coming weeks can continue the thread. TRAINMAN and Carol started a great thing here. I'll be on Oasis at the end of March so I'll see what I can do. Maybe someone else can give it a try in the meantime..........

We are going on the Independence OTS on Feb 20. We booked a night at the Rodeway Inn at the airport. We also are driving. They told us that they have a free shuttle to and from the pier, plus free parking for the length of the cruise and they have a free Continental breakfast. We couldn't believe it and called back and they said it was true. we shall see!!
