No night life on Equinox??

I am getting the same feeling you have after reading a lot of feedback about this ship and the line itself. Everyone has a different look at what they want out of the night life, but it doesn't look as bad as what I am reading and I have looked around at a lot of blogs . I will probably pull the trigger and book the cruise I am looking at since the ship itself looks great and I don't think its as bad as some make it to be. A lot has to do with the cruise itself and the amount of days. Good lot to you and hope you and I make the right choice! Bob:eek:

I am reading a lot of reviews about the lack of night life on the Equinox, due to the ages of the cruisers. I am one that likes a late night in the disco or lounges. Please give some feedback.

Might depend on the time of year. Quasar was a happening scene every sea night on my 12/14 cruise--quite late too.

I noticed the cruise you are taking and you will have a great time with the ports you are doing. Feel free to contact me with any questions and I have a lot of photos and can give you names of some great tours that I have been on down in that area ! Bob

Your feeling is quite correct. Celebrity in general is never even close to a party atmosphere I also enjoy a late night in the disco but I have noticed that the average age of Celebrity passengers has risen in the last few years and with that rise, the disco has become quite empty at night and night life has become quite subdued. It suits many or most passengers but for some it can be a bit disappointing.

I share your concerns. I'm sailing on Solstice in less than 3 weeks, and I'm 24 and enjoy a few late nights on the cruise. I'll let you know how it goes.

Looking forward to your feedback MerDub. I am going on the Solstice with my 20something sons in a few months and hoping that there is some nightlife for them to enjoy. enjoy your cruise !

I don't think age has as much to do with it as much as how the ship caters to it. When we were on the Infinity 13-day panama, the age was more "retired" than other cruises we've been on. There were 3 lounges with live music and dance floors that were full most of the time.

We don't care that much about the disco - enjoy dancing (waltz, 2-step, cha-cha, etc) to a live band. We are also late-nighters; usually close down the lounges.

Here's the link to my thread where I was asking about dancing to live music:

It might give more light to your question.

Hope This Helps.

The OP mentioned that (s)he enjoyed spending nights in the disco so that's why I mentioned absence of people there on almost all my Celebrity cruises (and I have been on quite a few). Age does have a lot to deal with this phenomenon since most older passengers tend not to spend too much time in the disco at night and Celebrity seems to have "aged" in the past few years as far as the average age of their passengers.

Of course, there are a few other music/dance venues on each ship but these usually cater to the older passengers in terms of musical selections and they are quite popular.

Have run into this problem on other cruises. Does the Equinox have any dancing and rock and roll before midnight. Husband and I may be older, close to 60, but love to have a good time. Most ships only have the disco going late. Also anyone have any comments about conceierge class?

We did a b2b on the Solstice last January then an 11 night on the Equinox this January. The Solstice was abuzz beginning with a very lively Martini bar before dinner which flowed over to the dancing venues after dinner, we danced late into the night on a few occasions, and both cruises on the Solstice were hopping from start to end.

As we expected you get an older and more laid back crowd on the longer cruises, not much late night dancing going on.

We still had an excellent cruise and enjoyed the late night comedians in Celebrity Central and the piano bar in Michaels Club.

We were on the Jan 4th Equinox sailing.

We were on the Equinox in October. It was our first Celebrity cruise and we were spoiled with the three or more live bands (plus the orchestra) which Princess normally has on their big ships. I was QUITE concerned about the lack of entertainment, as I had heard that Celebrity did not come close to Princess in this department. Well, we had the most fantastic cruise ever. We danced to the live band in the Sky Lounge every night, did some Quasar, enjoyed the Equinox orchestra, loved the music around the pool, loved the guitarists, loved the jazz group, just absolutely had a blast!! Stayed up every morning until 1:30 or 2:00 - the orchestra plays a lot in the afternoon and early evening (great dance music, lots of rock and roll, too, and latin), and the live band in Sky was outstanding with a great female singer and ALL types of music, including requests. We LOVED Sky. The entire ship is beautiful which adds to the feeling that you are enjoying a special evening every single night. I think you will love it. We did!!

I think age has little to do with it. We are in our 60's but LOVE to rock and roll and LOVE to burn the candle at both ends and in the middle, too.

Don't worry I have never had a problem with having fun on X. The night club always seems to have a nice crowd and good music. There were always people staying out late.

We are on your sailing and we will hang out and party with you guys. :D

Another thing to remember is the % of people cruising is no where near the small % that posts here.

Just got off Equinox last Monday (Jan. 25). I'd say we were up most evenings until midnight - 1:00 AM. We're not really disco people so I can't tell you how late it went on an average evening but we do enjoy live music and the entertainment in Ensemble Lounge was outstanding. The jazz quartet with Vanessa Trouble was outstanding. The guitarist that played here and Michael's Club was also very good. There was live music until 1:00 AM in at least three locations plus Quasar was open as late as people were enjoying it....they don't post a closing time.

One thing to remember is that longer cruises - ten days or more - attract an older crowd to begin with. But our cruise had a good cross section of ages and I'd say the crowd was very active.

There was also several late night shows in Celebrity Central - one night was a comedian; one night was the Liar's show; one night was a Newlywed-type show. Most started between 11:30 - Midnight.

There was always a decent crowd in the casino as well.

So there were definitely folks out and about later in the evening.

ENJOY your cruise!

I just disembarked from Millenium and it was soooo boring. Average age around 65. Music was all oldies, did not hear even one song recorded in the last 25 years during the whole cruise. Live band at the pool playing classical reggae and caribbean tunes... cheesy... Just imagine the parties and the disco (dead by midnight) ...not fun for people in their 40's like us and even less for our teenager kids who were desesperate trapped in that floating retirement home. Entertainment was also dissappointingly classic and, again, boring. Will not book M-Class again (will cancel my booking at Constellation next week).

Solstice had better ambience, activities and average age was lower in our Mediterranean cruise. I would still give it another chance before looking into another cruise line. However, I think that Celebrity is staying behind in terms of attracting new younger customers. They have nice ships where to create a trendy atmoshphere and events in some areas at certain times.

Went on Solstice in January...Disco was hardly ever used.

Dancing at the upper bar/club.

But it was pretty dead due to age of cruisers.

The music around the pool was not good either. I told Celebrity my concern in the survey and on the follow up phone call.

The music around the pool sounded like waiting room music one day...it should be Caribbean!

Why....? Or to be more exact, why have any music at all . ? If public music is played the people who do not want any, or people like yourself , do not approve of what is being played, are made to listen. If people want music why cannot they just listen to EXACTLY what they choose...on their personal headsets. ?

Was on a 10 day cruise in December.

Quasar was dead every night - void of any human beings.

My cruise was the week immediately after yours and Quasar was well attended. What time were you looking in there? Its peak times were sea days after the last show let out.

We are loyal Celebrity Cruisers..have enjoyed Solstice twice & are booked on Equinox & Summit for future cruises... The night life offered is fine for me--quiet except for a few nights of party events... great Cirque type production shows...nice lounge music

However, we just returned from Navigator of the Seas--what a contrast--the place was really alive at night--some clubs did not even get started til midnight..lots of music , events, action & parades & great production shows--even liked the comedian magician... The ice show was enjoyable but not great!!!

Live bands (reggae , latin, party, etc) much much better than current X offerings...very big difference if you like music & bands....

Food was excellent but of course not the level of Celebrity in quality, slection & service--although Chops equalled Tuscan Grille to us..

The ship was bit too big for us--did not like the mall concept & some of the pax were a bit on the rowdy side & "underdressed"--wife beater T shirts, sloppy....

But for younger & more lively folks than us & anyone with teens (what a great teen program they had!) I think Navigator would be preferred over Celebrity--even the S classs ships-- we of course remain loyal to X..but open to other experiences!!!
