Carnival is cracking down on smuggling

Man this topic goes round and round on the forum here. It's easy order from Bon Voyage and be guaranteed that you have it. Try smuggling it and there is chance they confiscate it. Not a big deal. I'll probably just order from Bon Voyage and not have to worry about it. The prices aren't that bad from there.

I totally agree... the steward probably has no reason to turn in the guest, and has every reason to look the other way (tips.)

 

Unless the person is drunk enough to puke all over his cabin.....

Here is a photo I snapped from my aft balcony in Ft. Lauderdale (I was on the Miracle) of the scanning process. Note the security person in the chair with the hooded sweatshirt over his/her head. On one end a guy threw the bag on the belt, it went through the machine and the guy on the other end hurled it into the red cage (with amazing accuracy) and sent it on it's way. And, everything in my bag made it to my cabin just fine ;)

So during the cruise custom agents entered their stateroom and went through their things? I have never heard of that happening before!

 

It was our 16th cruise and we had never heard of it either. It wasn't really a big deal other then it scared the begeesus out of her when she went to leave the ship and the security officer told her she had to return to her cabin for a message. She thought maybe someone in her family had died, so she was quite upset about that.

 

The customs agents were very nice and explained that she was randomly selected.

It also seems now that you can order bottles from room service for about (the same for the 2 I asked about) the same as Bon Voyage.

 

I didn't need to order any from room service though. ;)

Let's see, I am on the Carnival Dream which holds thousands of passengers. We all lock our luggage and while 3000 people head downstairs to unlock their luggage, the Lido deck should be so empty that there will be no buffet line. I wonder how long that takes and maybe we should combine the exodus to the naughty room with the muster drill. After all, that's where everyone will be for hours...

Not me...I'll be in the buffet enjoying lunch on an empty Lido deck since I didn't lock my luggage and I did not smuggle anything to get called down to the "naughty room" for.;)

I got 4 rumrunners on just fine on the Glory on Feb 28th. I did notice a lot more people being caught though for booze in their carry-ons. Also at ports they were really serious. They found my contraband in my carryon at all 4 ports of call, and I have never had that happen even once before on a cruise.

We always pack a little beverage enhancements in our bags and they have always made it to our room. Maybe the size of the enhancement has to do with something?!:cool::p

Yeah, I really think it's a waste of time for Carnival. We smuggled, but we spent SO MUCH MONEY on drinks. No one wants to drink inside their room! No fun! And you want tropical foo-foo drinks. No blender in my cabin! :D

The Steward mis-spoke. If checked luggage is locked and X-Ray detects something, only then will you be called to unlock the luggage for inspection. ken

 

Yeah, I thought so. But she literally said that if your bag was locked, they would call on you. Can you imagine how long that would take? lol

I just got off the Dream last week and I think someone's cabin steward ratted soemone out. I saw a security officer walking down the hallway on one of the deck floors and he was carrying three large bottles of liquor.

 

No tippy for him or her! :cool: Oh and a bad review on top of it.

Why smuggle? If I want a drink in the cabin, there is room service to bring it. But if I wanted another drink, I'd have stayed in the bar and had it. And/or carried it back to the cabin. Why go through the immature antics of a high schooler while you're on your vacation?

Yikes.....:eek: $65 for a liter of Jack Daniels IS robbery!!! Last week I ordered 2 bottles of it for a sailing in 12 days. They charged me $55 a liter....which is still a very, GROSS profit for Carnival. It is only $20 a liter in MN. It seems the more popular something is, the more gouging Carnival does. Oh, well....such is the sailing life!

Oh yeah, I agree. The prices are mostly at least double what I would pay at home. But at least (for now) they are offering a cheaper alternative to ordering all of your alcohol by the drink.

I don't mean to sound ignorant, but what size bottles are these prices for? I know I can buy the 750ml bottles of 3 Olives Vodka for around $20, but $60 sounds a bit much!
