Will anybody miss the Miami sailings?

We're looking at possible cruises for next year and it just hit me that there will only be the Majesty sailing out of Miami after the Liberty leaves. It seems so sad because it had such a monopoly just a few years ago. We love Port Everglades and our home port of Port Canaveral, too, but theres really nothing like sailing out of the Port of Miami to start of a cruise. It more than makes up for the Miami chaos IMO!

 

Will anybody else miss that or am I alone here :p?

Sailing out of Miami is so much fun. There's the cruise groupies who bring lawn chairs down and sit on the causeway to watch the ships sail (I was down there on business one Sunday evening and I joined some of them to watch the Explorer and Radiance set sail). Then as the ship heads out, the people zipping by on the causeway roadway wave out of the car windows and out of the sunroofs. I love the extra fun that comes from someone on shore sending you off ... even though I don't have a clue who those people are.

We love Miami departures... normally, it's already HOT to start your vacation!!!! Love it!

Here's a nay sayer. It's 30-45 minutes longer drive, more traffic, wind your way past urban outdoorsmen camped under the overpasses to get to Biscayne Blvd. Then into to the port to get the high price parking. I don't mind getting off at FLL!!

I have sailed out of Miami and NYC and I really felt bad when they cut down on the number of sailings out of the "Big Apple". There was nothing to compare to than sailing by Lower Manhattan(especially when the WTC was there) past the Statute of Liberty and Ellis Island and then on under the Verrizano Narrows Bridge. All this usually as part of a parade of ships that you could watch from the shoreline if you were not onboard.

 

So yes when something special comes to an end, it is sad:(

Sounds beautiful :). I can not wait to sail out of Miami! Fort Lauderdale was very pretty but it will be fun so sail down the canal near SB

Aside from San Juan, Miami is our favorite port to sail out of. We will definitely miss it. Thankfully we have one more cruise booked on Liberty prior to the end.

I think was is sad, is that there will be no more 8 nighters out of FLL or MIA after March 19,2011...:(:( That was worth a flight from the west coast to do...

I absolutely agree that 2 of the most awe inspiring departures are NYC and sailing past the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty or a Late fall departure from Miami with the sun setting behind the Miami skyline. I hope RCI doesn't forget its homebase or over- deploy its assets in Europe. Many banks have found out what happens when they chase rainbows in a particular geographic region.

The only port I don't care for is Port Canaveral. To be honest, I like Port Everglades better than Miami - while the scenery may not be as fantastic leaving, it is much easier to get to than Miami and the hotels in the area are better priced for staying overnight the night before the cruise.

 

Nothing beats cruising out of New York for me.

True, Port Canaveral is honestly not attractive to sail out of, but nothing is easier than having it in easy driving distance and boarding is always a breeze!

 

However, I still just love that Miami departure.

We have sailed out of San Juan for most of our earlier cruises, including 5 with RCCL. It is getting just too costly for their hotels and flights to go there.

I personally do not like what I see on the RCCL website as of now.

I am waiting to see when they open the rest of the schedules to see if I remain Loyal to Royal.

Yes, and I'm really glad I'm booked on a 10 night Jewel cruise to Caribbean/Panama/So. America because she's heading to Tampa to do 5 nighters :confused: Crazy!!!!

Don't know why but its always sad to see a great ships like Liberty and Jewel start doing 4-5 night cruises.

Forgive my ignorance, but...what's the deal? I'm a LONG time traveler who only recently tested the cruising waters. Absolutely loved it (exceeded my expectations by miles) and plan to do many, many more in the future.

 

Miami works well for me (love SOBE, etc). Fort Lauderdale will work too. Planned on doing 7 day and longer cruises on Voyager/Freedom ships. They're pulling them from FL? Where to?

 

Again, sorry for the newbie query, I had/have no clue. I do know we loved RCI (Navigator) and have heard enough about Carnival that I'm not very interested. Thought we were lucky to have found what we liked (RCI) right off the bat. Hope there will be options provided.

Well said.....I hope Europe does not become a BUST.....or maybe I do..... since RCCL is pulling the Mariner and all West Coast Sailings.

I Vote for San Francisco......We were on the Mariner last May and believe me...THere is nothing like sailing under the Golden Gate.....AWSOME!!!!!

After April 2011 the only 7 day cruises on a Voyager or a Freedom Class ship will be on the Freedom out of Port Canaveral.

 

Voyager: Europe/New Orleans

Adventure: Europe/San Juan

Explorer: Cape Liberty

Navigator: Year Round Europe

Mariner: Europe/Galveston

 

Liberty: Europe/4&5 Day from Ft. Lauderdale

Independence: Year Round Southampton.

Alexis, we too do not like what we are seeing :mad: When we decide to visit Europe it will be a land vacation -- not a cruise when you only are only able to just sample the ports.

You won't be alone. Every time we pull out of the port and see the sunset, the fabulous houses and the palms, I'm ready to move to Miami! I'll miss it :(

I live in Miami and will be really bummed having to drive to Lauderdale; however, there wasn't much selection out of here to begin with. We'll probably do a 3 day Bahamas, but our next cruise is out of San Juan and the one after that will likely be Alaska.

All time favorite so far has to be sailing out to sea past the Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty and under the Verizano Bridge. Plus we were escorted by NYPD helicopter and spraying tugs, what's not to like. Really moving. Next on my list is sailing from Cork, Ireland retracing the same route the Titanic took. Will get to see what it's like to sail under the Golden Gate Bridge next week and already think it will be spectacular. Can't wait. Happy sailing everyone.

We have sailed from Miami a few times and had not heard of the impending pull-out. Being from England Miami is relatively easy for us to catch a cruise. We used to stay a few days in Miami before or after the cruise which we really enjoyed and there is not the same hassle of getting to FLL or Port Canaveral. The sailaway from Miami is great.

 

Maybe we will have to hurry and book one more time.

We live about 10 minutes from Port Everglades but it seems most of our cruises were split between Miami and Ft Lauderdale. I liked having those two options. I like Miami Seaport we found it easy to get in and out of once you fiqured out the crazy signs on where to park. We do save on parking in Ft Lauderdale since friends drops us off and pick us up.
