Prof 100 Posted May 12, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 12, 2010 We have never cruised nor been in the Eastern Caribbean. We will be on FOS from June 6 to 13. I am pretty set on the clothes to bring, I understand that the dining room can be over air conditioned sometimes, but what about the rest of the ship including the outside areas? Will I need a wrap/sweater? Thanks...getting really excited about our trip.:p
joeyancho Posted May 12, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 12, 2010 My wife says just a wrap will do. No need for a sweatshirt or anything like that. Have a great cruise.
Marie51 Posted May 12, 2010 #3 Share Posted May 12, 2010 I usually bring a couple shawls but rarely have to use them. Other than that it will be very hot in the Caribbean so summer clothes for when you are outside.
Ocean Boy Posted May 12, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 12, 2010 It will be warm outside that time of the year. Usually in the evening on the ships I wear a long sleeve shirt and long pants. That is usually enough to tolerate the air conditioning.
Mysticks1 Posted May 12, 2010 #5 Share Posted May 12, 2010 A light wrap or light jacket/sweater should be good. If you are an early riser you might need it when moving around the ship, it seemed a little cool to me in the early mornings as well.
cb at sea Posted May 12, 2010 #6 Share Posted May 12, 2010 It's the wind...not the temperatures, that may chill you. If it's too windy at night, I just don't hang out by the railing...it's windiest there. I've never been too cold inside the ship...used to bring wraps, but no more. AF-1 Posted May 12, 2010 #7 Share Posted May 12, 2010 I always carry a windbreaker with me year round. Like CB said, its the wind on deck that can chill u.

Grandiva Posted May 12, 2010 #9 Share Posted May 12, 2010 I always take a lite weight sweater. I find a few areas around the ship to be chilly. And as someone said, it can be cooler/windy on deck and we like to take walks at night. They do sell wraps onboard in beautiful colors. Use to be $10. Think the $10 store is now $15. BonVoyage20 Posted May 12, 2010 #10 Share Posted May 12, 2010 I usually take something light just in case because sometimes it can get a little cool. But I usually never need it, it will be hot for the most part . Have fun!
BroncosFan2010 Posted May 12, 2010 #11 Share Posted May 12, 2010 I always bring a hoodie and light sweater to wear at dinner or during the shows. I get cold very easily, so I am always prepared.

jetlady Posted May 12, 2010 #13 Share Posted May 12, 2010 I always bring a jacket of some sort. After being in the sun all day, it always seems chilly in the dining room and for the night time show

If I get a little burnt (it happens in the Caribbean, especially when you live in Michigan!), I tend to chill easier in the evenings.

It's back to $10 now..at least on the Majesty it was a couple weeks ago..I remember being surprised..I hadn't heard it had gone down... Love those wraps they sell...I have 2..and have to really control myself not to buy one in each color...:D
Prof 100 Posted May 13, 2010 Author #16 Share Posted May 13, 2010 Thanks to everyone for all your suggestions...I may be tempted to check out the wraps they sell onboard. I plan to take a lightweight sweater at least..I tend to get cold when I get tired...sitting here right now in the Chicago area, it is cool and rainy....hard to imagine the hot sun on my skin...wish we were leaving tomorrow! DonnaK Posted May 13, 2010 #17 Share Posted May 13, 2010 I've never been cold inside the ship. In fact, in recent years, it seems that they've raised the thermostat onboard (to save money?) and the ships are often too warm. Those $10 pashmina wraps are very pretty. UandMe4Ever Posted May 13, 2010 #18 Share Posted May 13, 2010 I would definitely bring a wrap or two for evenings! The interior areas DR/Public Areas, do get chilly and especially if you've been in the sun during the day! Have a great cruise.

sailingawaysoon Posted May 14, 2010 #20 Share Posted May 14, 2010 I usually bring a sweater or wrap for the evenings and during the day if we are planning to stay inside the ship, I have to wear a jacket. I find that I always get chilled in the promenade. If you plan to hang out in the casino for more than a few mins, you may want to bring a jacket for this area also. Have a great time on the Freedom. She's such a beautiful ship and there's a ton of things to do. You definitely picked a great ship to go on your first cruise. I don't think it will be your last after you experience it. Also, if you plan to do any ice skating, make sure you bring long pants and you may want a light jacket for that also. Don't forget to let us know how your trip was! dsheamac Posted May 14, 2010 #21 Share Posted May 14, 2010 Is it too hot to go cruising the caribbean in June/July?? April would be great but due to schdules can make next April looking at next June/July. I assume going ashore will be very very hot but on ship does it get cooler(due to wind on sea days) so enjoying the pool isn't a heat stroke?? Also how much shade is on the private island COCO Cay?? thanks

Prof 100 Posted May 18, 2010 Author #23 Share Posted May 18, 2010 Thanks for the kind words...I am sure we will love FOS. My sister is a huge RCCL cruiser and she helped up pick out our first adventure!:D
toxicfairy Posted May 18, 2010 #24 Share Posted May 18, 2010 It really depends on what you are use to. I am ALWAYS cold! We have central air in the house and never use it! I have to put a jacket on in summer when I go into stores. So yes when we did Caribbean in August I was freezing on the ship. I wore a shawl in the evenings when I was dressed up and usually had a zippered hoodie type jacket with me in the day time to walk through the ship (although I didn't need to wear it all the time). I know most people don't get as cold as I do but thought I'd throw in my opinion anyway :).
