cerealover12 Posted June 2, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 2, 2010 Planning on taking our second Oceania cruise next summer, and need some opinions on where to cruise before we book. First cruise we did was in 2007 onboard the Nautica mainly in the Greek Isles (Rome-Istanbul), and we had a wonderful time. Now comes the hard decision of choosing a different cruising region! We're currently torn between doing a Northern Europe cruise (I especially would like to see St. Petersburg), or sticking to southern Europe around Spain and France (there is a certain cruise we are looking at right now that is Barcelona to Copenhagan). Any opinions? I would love to see Northern Europe, but am nervous about saying goodbye to the crystal blue water and beach weather of the Mediterranean! Druke I Posted June 2, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 2, 2010 Oceania has some very good Northern Europe cruises. We did the Baltic on Regatta, and thought it an outstanding cruise, with the Kiel Canal transit a real highlight.
Rare LHT28 Posted June 2, 2010 #3 Share Posted June 2, 2010 They are all good It is a personal choice You need to choose which port you would prefer to see more I prefer the cooler climates that said we are doing another Panama canal trip enjoy the one you choose Lyn
Rare DOJO466 Posted June 3, 2010 #4 Share Posted June 3, 2010 We too did the Baltic and it was fabulous. I too, as Lyn like the cooler climates and we too are on the Panama:rolleyes:. When we arrived in Stockholm in June it was 95 but the rest of the trip was very pleasant touring. If you have done the Med before, please do consider the Baltics, one of our favorites. CintiPam Posted June 3, 2010 #5 Share Posted June 3, 2010 Any opinions? I would love to see Northern Europe, but am nervous about saying goodbye to the crystal blue water and beach weather of the Mediterranean! My gentle stomach rejected a Spain/France cruise option, so now that we have sailed the Mediterranean, we are turning to the Baltics, where I happily visited on a land/sea trip four Junes back, but spouse has not yet ventured. St. Petersburg is fantastic!
Jancruz Posted June 3, 2010 #6 Share Posted June 3, 2010 We have done the Baltic three times and loved it more each time!! Jancruz1
cerealover12 Posted June 3, 2010 Author #7 Share Posted June 3, 2010 Thank you everyone :) ; I am leaning very heavily toward the July 2011 cruise on the Insignia: London-Stockholm
GrammieK Posted June 3, 2010 #8 Share Posted June 3, 2010 Did the London-Stockholm a few years ago. Absolutely loved it!! So many lovely and diverse ports, but very intensive. We also had the hottest weather in St. Petersburg - three days over 90 which is usually unheard of. July is the perfect time for extended sunlight on the Neva River evening cruise, which is one of my favorite memories. Enjoy! K
Imagineer Posted June 4, 2010 #9 Share Posted June 4, 2010 ...we did the western Med, Rome to Venice two years ago, loved it!! So much so that its now are favorite and we're in the midst of planning a return voyage with Oceania to this same area in the very near future. This time we may opt to start in Barcelona and end in Venice, there truly is no place else like Venice...:) cheers, the Imagineer
hulamoon Posted June 4, 2010 #10 Share Posted June 4, 2010 What an enjoyable thread. In the years I don't have a place in mind the choices are overwhelming. Kinda like this year.

TERRIER1 Posted June 5, 2010 #12 Share Posted June 5, 2010 We did the Rome to Venice, Rome to Istanbul and the Panama Canal Passage. We love the Med so we are trying it again with new ports. We are booked on the Barcelona to Copenhagen on the Marina. Enjoy no matter what your choice.
marilynfaye Posted June 5, 2010 #13 Share Posted June 5, 2010 I don't think we have taken a cruise that we didn't like, but the Baltic has always been a favorite. We did it on Ren in 2001. That's when we became addicted to the R-ships. Visiting St. Petersberg was magical. But, you really can't make a wrong choice. And whichever you don't chose for the next trip gives you something to look forward to for the trip after. Marilyn

lyndenfa Posted June 5, 2010 #16 Share Posted June 5, 2010 I stand corrected. This may not be the thread to comment but I have to write something. Our neighbors are long time cruisers. We have only been neighbors for five years. They just returned from HAL transantlantic/med and said the ports were great but the cruise was not and they may just be tired of cruising (after reportedly 15+ cruises). I am only venting because I believe they are the kind of people who would love Oceania and can seemingly afford it but never have the experience to compare. I suppose my bottom line is we are all so blessed to have Oceania to add to our enjoyment of cruising and Oceania helps make it so. Thanks Oceania. ClaudiaF Posted June 6, 2010 #17 Share Posted June 6, 2010 Through caution to the wind ..take the cruise to Cape Town ..spend at least 3 or 4 extra days doing a land safari... you will have the time of your life!!!!!
