Mariner Society day credits

I understand the relatively new plan allows you to earn one day credit for each $300 of folio charges. However, if you pre-book shore excursions, these are charged directly to your credit card and presumably would not appear on your onboard account. So, my question is do prepaid shore excursions earn day credits? This is meaningful for me because I may be only a day or two short of the next category without credit for the shore excursions I've already booked. thanx.

Yes indeed, the shore excursions you purchase before your trip are counted in your mariner statistics. And they seem to round up.

We came home from our 14 day cruise on Monday the 12th and our mariner stats were posted by the 15th. And those prepaid shore excursions were part of it.

They sure do and get posted right away. For us, a 10 day cruise in a suite yielded 30 cruise day credits with the on-board spend and pre-purchased excursions. There is definately an incentive to purchase HAL-sponsored excursions under the new system.

So tell me if I've got this right, Dennis, other than the 20 CDC's you got for being in a suite for 10 days, this translates to TEN extra CDC's, i.e., $3000 spent on pre-booked Xcursions, plus the HSC (2 people @ $22/day) and other expenses onboard?

I ask because somewhere I got the impression you could only get a max of three CDC's per cruise, whther you spend more than $900 or not.

But good on ya, Dennis! That's a nice waknoodle of credits. :D

Here is the wording from the HAL website on limits to earning cruise credits by on-board spend.

This is calculated on the combined folio charges for all guests on the booking, regardless of who signs each charge and who pays the bill. There is a limit of one bonus day for each day sailed,

So, with our 10 day cruise we maxed the number of credits at 30. Trust me we did not 'waste' any spend. :)

Can you go to the HAL website and find out the number of credits you have? We booked all our excursions through HAL. Also, would I have my own credits and my husband his own?

May sound like dumb questions, but I'm new to this and can't find the info anywhere on the HAL site.

Thank you for your help!

On our recent Alaskan cruise, I booked excursions for each of our three daughters as Christmas gifts through our TA. I did not receive any credit since the bookings with the TA was in her name instead of mine. Both she and I had several discussions with the front office staff who even talked with Seattle, but this was HAL's decision.

Very easy to get to. Just log on to the HAL website and go the "My Account" page. Once there you will find a link to "My Mariner Status". Just click and you are there.

You and your husband have two separate and distinct Mariner accounts.

Booked excursions are only reflected on the account once the cruise is over and all credits are totalled.

Why book excursions through a TA??

You have a computer -- do it on your own.

Why didn't I book the excursions on line instead of through a TA ? It was because I was travelling with a large group and we had enough people to have our own bus and we could all be together.

Sorry. I didn't think why I booked that way had any bearing on the subject.

We try to learn from each other. You may have had a reason that some of us may not have been aware of and it could be useful for us to think about. :o

Thanks for explaining. Seeing as DH and I never travel with a large group, wouldn't apply to us.

Shortly after the new program rolled out, I contacted the Mariner Society with a variety of questions, some of which related to the credits for spending. I was told that, in addition to actual onboard charges, any spending accounted for on that booking number (except casino) would earn spending day credits, including gifts or excursions purchased by others for me on that sailing. In your case, I would surmise that your daughters, rather than you, each received spending day credits, based on your spending? At least, that's how it was explained to me as the way it's supposed to work.

The credits are applied based on monies spent against a particular booking number, rather than by the owner of the credit card who buys the goodies.
