Evaluating a beverage package? Here is a beverage list with prices, as of mid-2010.

Despite the wonderful help here on these pages, I was still confused about what package to order if my husband wanted non-alcoholic beer. So I called Celebrity.

Be warned that the only way for non-alcoholic beer to be included (like Buckler and O'Doul's), we must purchase the alcoholic package.

Hardly worth it for us non-drinkers so I won't be doing that:)!

Hello, folks.

[some of you have seen earlier versions of this message, but it has always been posted previously as a reply within a thread started by another person. I decided today to use this message to start a new thread for a couple of reasons, but especially because of "enhancements" that I have made here and there -- made in part because of suggestions by some of you. Various "no-extra-charge," non-alcoholic beverages have been added. Also the list of wines available by the glass now has notations showing which can be ordered in the main dining rooms. Thank you.]

In order to help you decide whether or not a Celebrity beverage package would be "worth it" to you, you need to know what will be available and at what price per glass.

Here is a series of lists of the various kinds of beverages found on 2010 menus aboard the Solstice. (I presume that the same/similar menus will be found aboard Equinox, etc. -- but I cannot guarantee it!) Photos of the Solstice menus are on the Internet and have been linked by other CC members in the recent past. I copied all this info from those dozens of photos. The numbers after the items' names are the prices in dollars.

Package info are on this Celebrity page:

Regular teas are no extra charge without any package 24 hours a day in all dining venues or from room service. At the coffee bar, where they charge for any beverage ordered there they charge for tea but supply a premium organic brand.

we had the premium NON alcoholic package last year and while we felt it was great to have, I'm not sure we used all of the package.

we really enjoy coffees at the coffee bar (bacio) and fresh squeezed juice. We are fine with regular water and dont need the premium waters. We do like a virgin pina colada at the pool too.

would all this be covered on classic or do we need to go premium NON alcoholic again ???

thanks to anyone that has this info

The coffees are covered for sure and from the description on Celebrity's web page it appears the juice is but the frozen drinks are not: http://www.celebritycruises.com/onboard/tabLanding.do?pagename=onboard_beverage_packages#onboard_beverage_packages_premium_classic_tab/onboard/asrPanel.do%3Fpagename=onboard_beverage_packages_premium_classic

Have you considered just paying as you go? If a couple days into the cruise you decide it would have been better with a package you can always buy one then for the remainder of the cruise.

Hi

If you have the classic package but want a beer that s more than your $5 allowance or you $8 wine allowance - can you just pay the extra or do you get charged for the whole price of the drink.

Does anyone have experience of the classic package - does it offer enough choice - we would probably drink beer, wine, G & T , coffees and cocktails

With the classic package, any drink over your $5/$8 allowance are charged in full. Only with the premium package can you just pay the difference. Hope that helps.

We just booked eclipse Jan 26 2013...there are a lot of pages on this subject. I understand that if you take the "Premium Alcohol" package that you can pretty much get any drink you want providing it is not in excess of $12-.. In theory say 10 drinks a day = $120- but the package is $62-. Am i correct in this assumption? Are most drinks under $12- or are many over this limit? I have tried to add the package to my booking via Celebrity "manage your booking" but at this stage it does not let me proceed. Maybe it is too far away sailing to do this already? Cheers, John

After months of procrastination and countless hours of reading these posts we have finally decided on our drinks packages -- premium for me and premium non alcohol for the beautiful wife. ( she will just pay as she goes for the wine as she is not the boozer that I am apparently ) .Thanks to everyone for the advice and information , it has been fun reading and I will no doubt continue to check in daily as it seems to have become a habit now .

I do have 2 questions --

when I sit down for dinner / lunch and request some bottled water , do I need to drink this before I can order a glass of wine ( given that its 1 drink at a time ? )

Also , if my wife decides to "upgrade" from the Premium non alcohol to the premium alcohol for the last 3 days of the cruise , how do we go about this and how is the price calculated? Thanks again:D

I am planning on purchasing the premium non alcohol pkge 2 or 3 days into a twelve day Silhouette cruise. I called Celebrity and was told that it is all or nothing, and it would be "at the ships discretion" to allow a purchase a day or two into the cruise. Anyone ever done this? are they just playing hardball trying to get us to buy the packages for the entire trip?

Hi,

You will be able to buy package 2/3 days into the cruise. It must be purchased for the remainder of the cruise and you will be charged pro rata.

info. on Celebrity web site indicates that you can buy the package at any stage during the cruise (up to the last 2 days), but it has to be for the remainder of the cruise. i.e. If you are a 14 day and decide after day 4 to buy, then you buy for the remainng 10 days. It is charged on a daily basis so I guess pro-rata isnt really applicable.

I am glad I did not buy the beverage package. Unless you are a major drinker, I do not think it is necessary. If anything, I believe the package forces you to over indulge. Our bill was still less than what it would have been if we bought the package. By the way, we brought our own 24-pack of bottled water on board. There was no way we were going to pay for bottled water at $2-3 a bottle.

There are lots of posts pointing out verbiage on different parts of the website and on-board experiences indicating this can be done. If you are still worried if this is true or not then I suggest you wait until you are on board on embarkation afternoon. You can then ask at customer relations or at one of the bars that sell the packages if they cab be bought in a day or two after you think it over and what the terms are - then you'll know for sure.

Hello everyone,

Sorry if this is a question that has already been answered, but how does tipping work with the drink package? I know that there are no slips to sign or any paperwork, so how does a gratuity get applied?

thanks!

They add the 15% standard gratuity service charge to the purchase price when you buy the package. This is somehow divided among the staff.

Hi, that's my plan. No matter how I add it up I don't see myself spending $60.00-plus a day on alcohol drinks, but those special coffees and teas will be great and most of my expense. I plan to TV check as you suggest for a day or two and if the expense is exceeding my expectations then I'll purchase an alcohol package for the rest of the trip. So nice to have choices, isn't it? ;) Laurie

I'm new here so please forgive me if I've missed somthing previously discussed, but this kind of confuses me.

You say that you don't see yourself spending $60/day on alcohol but then you indicate that you will be enjoying the "special coffees and teas". Using that logic, shouldn't you consider the alcohol portion of the Premium Alcoholic package as really the portion of the daily expense of the package that is higher than the Premium non-alcoholic package?

Using this logic you can associate the first $21 (rounding after adding tip) per day for premium non-acloholic drinks and the remaining $41 (rounding after adding tip) per day for the premium alcoholic package.

Premium non-alcoholic package: $21/day after adding in tip and rounding

Premium alcoholic package: $62/day after adding in tip and rounding

So the "portion" of the package that can be considered for alcohol drinks is really just $41 per day.

For me, I easily see myself spending $21 per day on special coffes, bottled water (I drink a lot of water and really like the option of getting bottled instead of tap), other non-alcoholic drinks and $41 on my alcoholic drinks - so I am planning to get the Premium Alcoholic package.

Clearly this same logic could be used for the Classic packages but I'm focusing on Premium here.

Am I missing something obvious and my logic is off a bit?

IMO there is nothing wrong with your logic. I have purchased the Premium Alcoholic package on my last three cruise and I really liked the convenience.

On our last 12 day cruise we traveled with two other couples that did not purchased the package and their cost at the end of the cruise was only about half of what we spent. They drank as much as us, but did not take advantage of the O.J., water, and speciality coffees.

I am going to start my next cruise without the package for a few reasons. One is that I have a lot of OBC to spend and I am going to try going without it for a few days and monitor my charges. If necessary I will then purchase the package for the remaining days. I am going to bring some bottled water and CFDiet Coke on board with me as well as some wine. I am going to try and take advantage of the Elite cocktail party. They also have 2 for 1 specials in the outside bars for an hour and the inside bars after 9 PM. Of course I do not know if they are going to have the 2 for 1 specials on my next cruise.

The bottom line is that their is nothing wrong with your logic and the package is a great deal for some people. I am just going to see how it works for me the next time.

Good luck.

P.S. The first two times Celebrity gave me a list of all the scans for drinks. I did not get one on the last cruise.

This makes it seem like it's not worth it unless you also drink the specialty coffees and bottled water....slightly confused now, lol
