Background...

We took ths cruise with my family there were 18 of us for my parents 55th anniversary ..and vow renewal.

We had 18 in our party with ages 10-78, this was my third time to Bermuda .

Embarkation Day 1

After making the drive from the DC area to Bayonne ( 4 hrs ) we arrived just before 11 at the pier. It was easy to drop off the luggage and the kids and park the car we prepaid with a credit card $116 .

A short walk back from the parking lot and in we went We were booked in a suite 6119 so we had priority boarding. We checked in, and headed straight to the ship. You have to take a little shuttle to the ship..somehow we missed the welcome aboard photo stop ..

We were greeted with a glass of either OJ, Mimosa or Champange.

We headed to the 10th floor to the Waterfall Cafe...there were many choices I do not like buffets nor does DH but the kids loved it. I had pizza which was good.

I had read that the summit was worn and yes in a few areas it was , buy in no way did it detrack from our trip

We had a sky suite 6119, our Butler Manual stopped by to introduce himself to us and left us a # to reach him at He was very nice and attentive when we called him, I had some medicatons to be refrigerated which he took for me

Upon embarkation we were offered a complimentary dinner in the Normandie for my DH and I , we only had to pay the tip ( we paid $15)

the dinner the atmosphere , the service were outstanding, not sure I would have paid for it, as I enjoyed the dinner in the MDR

We had regular seating at 8:30, as we were a large party we had 2 wonderful tables by the window on the lower level The only issue was the AC was not working very well if at all and it was very very hot during dinner, esp on formal nights We complained everynight and nothing was done If there was one downside to our trip that was it.

Our suite although lovely was not as large as suites we have had on other lines,

We had the usual muster drill, different from other lines as we did not have to take our life jackets.

MY DH and I decided to each get a classic drink package, we purchased it about a month before the trip so it was all paid for in advance.

The other memebers of our group 3 more in total also each purchased Classic, my sister purchased non alcoholic package

For us it was a great choice DH had 3 -4 speciity coffees day I had sodas coffee/ lots of water and many different drinks, from frozen to mojitos, to champange, and beer and wines.

Our table was served Pellgrino each night as well as Evian, and the assist waiter filled all glasses My brother and I did a wine pairing and had wonderful wines each night.

We also each took a bottle of water as we got off the ship, and yes we did share that botte with members of our party and I admit I gave a mojito and a lava flow to my daughter as I did not like them My DH and I tasted each others drinks to try them out:rolleyes:

I did find out from one of the bar tenders that a drink card was confiscated from a passenger the first day as they were sharing it with others.

We recieved our follio and I had 102 drinks:eek: and DH had 78

We'll be on the Summit next week with a 12-year old girl. Will she have to wear a wrist band? What facilities were available for the preteens and teens?

We are planning on a meal in the special restaurant. Is there an age requirement to dine there?

Am looking forward to more pictures! Thanks for posting.

They say there is an age requirement for the restaurant but the two times we dined with them there were children both times. The first night there was a toddler with a large group in the wine room, and the 2nd night was a 11/12 year old dining with his mother.

We were on the 8/8 Summit with pitchersmom as well. We took our family to the Normandie Restaurant on two occasions. The minimum age is 12 yrs old.

Since the two of 2 are the latest on these boards to sail on the Summit, could you please tell us if Alternative Casual Dining (fixed menu, full wait service, tablelinens, $2 service charge, etc) located in a section of the Waterfal Cafe, was available on your sailing.

No, the Alternative Casual Dining as you described it, was not available on our sailing. We have made use of it on other cruises, but it wasn't there aboard Summit.

thanks for your review--we'll be on board in abt 2+ weeks

Was the A/C issue just in the MDR or throughout the ship?

How were the shows & music on the ship?

How was disembarkation?

the AC issue was only in the MDR and only in the back upper section

music and shows were great, we were at venues all hours of the night

Disembarking was fine, we waited in the Martini Bar for our # We were off and in or car by 10AM . The transfer from the ship to luggage is via the shuttle

Customs went very fast, we walked to the parkng lot rather than fight the crowds. We were adults with 6 bags.

Also interested in the Sky Suite impressions....we're in 6025 down the hall on the 9/5 Bermuda sailing!

We were on the 7/25/2010 Bermuda sailing in Sky Suite 6122. Our butler, Armando, and stateroom attendant, Clarence, were just wonderful. The suite was lovely. It was the first time we booked a suite, and it won't be the last time--usually, we travel in Concierge Class. We loved the Summit--just the right size--not too small and not too big. We will book the Summit again next year. It was our 14th cruise in 7 years.

Enjoy your cruise!

Thank you for your review and answers to people's questions. Glad you had a good time. We are taking the same cruise on September 5. Now I have a question. How did you manage to post a large picture? I have never been successful with smaller limits imposed. Thanks.

....our Days at Sea were wonderful and very relaxing, we did not have the best weather but had a great time none the less.

We spend time all over the ship from Bingo to the Casino, to the pool and the Aqua Spa. We found a spot on the 10th deck aft where we met for breakfast every morning, It was much quieter than the rest of the buffet, we were near the waffle and french toast station as well as omlets and poached eggs. We made fast friends with the bar teners nad never had any trouble getting water, or fresh OJ .

The pool was another story ,yes they tried to enforce the 30 minute rule, but the pool butler as they are called told me that afer mid morning it became very hard. I saw the usual single shoe, magazine on chairs.

After the pool butler told me he was unable to hlep me we just found chairs moved the stuff to the next chair and sat down. We picked chairs that were pretty obvious no one had occupied, towels still rolled up with a single shoe, etc. We planned to move if nayone came ack before the 30 minutes claiming the spot, but in the entire week no one ever did.

As a matter of fact one day we were there for about 5 hours and 3 chairs sat un occupied with a show, a bottle of suntan lotion and a pain of sun glasses.

mahdnc ....

Sorry to hitchike on this thread but we were on the NCL's Dawn August 8th to Bermuda and took the photo's that you requested. Email me and I will forward them to you.

OceanDreams

Hello, OceanDreams. My email address is mahdnc at yahoo dot com. I appreciate you emailing me the photos. I am wading thru the 1000 photos that I took during our NYC/Bermuda vacation. I managed to get some good shots of the Dawn and Spirit together, some pictures of the Dawn as we passed by her when we docked in Bermuda, and some photos as the Dawn passed by us on the way back to NYC. As soon as I get the photos organized during the next few days, I will email you the Dawn photos.

Hi Jeff,

Since you are on Summit soon, could you please report back whether casual dining venue has returned and whether there are any buffet events in the MDR.

Happy Sailing.
