How much did you spend on extra-charges?

I keep reading here and other travel sites about surcharges & fees for the great majority of activities/entertainment/restaurants on the EPIC and this appears to be one of the major complaints about the EPIC. I am just curious how much extra, in average, did people spend for the week?

You don't have to spend a dime (outside of the DSC) once you board the ship....or you can spend every dime you have.

The choice is entirely personal and up to the individual.

I don't however, think that you will find anyone who has spent anything "extra". People will spend what they want to spend...no more, no less...to get the vacation they want. There would be no need for "extra".

We may not be a good gauge on spending as we were 4 adults, 1 child and we drank wine with meals, cocktails at other times, had a few spa treatments, did excursions and tried many of the pay-restaurants, plus bought the future cruise deposit so ours was 1800 for the week. We also spent cash outside the cruise at ports.

We are sailing on 9/18 and this is what we have planned for the two of us.

Cirque Dinner - $40

Shanghai's - $30

Shore Excursion in Roatan - $120

We will buy a few drinks and some wine at dinner, but probably not more than $100.

If I pad this a little, we might spend around $400 extra on the ship, not including tips.

It's kind of tough to say...we were on for 2 weeks, 2 adults 1 child. We spent $3000 for 2 weeks and we did every pay restaurant except Wasabi. We did Cagney's 2x, Cirque 2x, and we had 2 adult spa passes per week. The spa passes alone are $200 a week. My husband had 4 massages during that time, each became more discounted. (They have a 10/20/30% off deal) We had a couple of bottles of wine, a few drinks, and one child soda card. We also purchased several excursions for the 3 of us. We rented a couple of movies. Also the DSC for two weeks amounted to over $500. Yowsa, but we really had a great time and don't regret anything we did! :)

The beauty of freestyle is that you spend what you want....kind of like going into a store, or walking down the street in a city choosing where to dine. Some places cost more than others, but you aren't forced to enter.

The only place I found myself spending more than I wanted....was the casino.......and that was my own fault.

LOL, we're not even onboard yet and our bill so far is over $800. Again as others have said...you spend what you want...where you want. We just plan on enjoying the whole experience onboard this gorgeous ship, but we don't plan on "buying" everything.

Neverthought

2 adults, 18 and 15YO

Service Charge (we didn't pay in advance-next time I will) - $384

Spa-$387

Soda cards - $205

Wine package (6 bottles)- $164

Shore excursion - Cozumel-$240

Drinks-$220

Casino -$135

Specialty dinners (5 nights)-$360

Entertainment on board (Cirque/Presumed Murder)-$120

extras (bowling, pizza, gym, air hockey, movie)-$120

Ice Bar-$60

Total -Just shy of $2400

We tipped our cabin attendants (2 rooms) an addition $100 and did other 'as you go' tipping in cash where we felt the service deserved more than just to autogratuity.

We also did zip and clip in Roatan @ about $200

Thanks for your replies everyone! The reason I ask this question is that I am still researching info. on the EPIC ( my biggest turn off so far is the smoking allowed in cabin issue but thats another thread). I like to be prepared before I take any vacation and I am just trying to budget and not to be taken blindsighted with additional costs but whom better to ask than you all!!! :D

For fear of sounding dumb...what is DSC??? Is that the automatic tipping??? If it is, what does DSC stand for??? Thanks.

Not including the $$ in the casino, we spent just a hair shy of $3000 on our two week B2B cruise, which entailed all wine, cocktails, onboard shopping, excursions, freestyle dining options, spa usage, auto-gratuity, etc... FYI, that was for two adults, no children.

Craig, how do you pay up front? I thought they are automatically added to your account?

When you book you can ask for them to be added to your invoice.

+ side it's all included in your payment and is about $20 cheaper.

-s obviously you can't go to reception and remove them IF bad service etc..

I assume dsc is direct/distributed service charge.

Which is about $12 per person per day or slightly cheaper if you pay upfront, which I have.

Close...most people HERE, call it the Daily Service Charge... .but yours was a very good guess.
