Anyone been hit with the new gov't fee and tax increase on cruises booked prior to 08/18/2010?? I have :(

I did too on my cruise to Hawaii for November... Taxes went up a big whooping $1.24 per person!

I too have had them go up and down, it all depends on the cruise. It's never enough to even give a second thought to.

I don't think it matters when you book. It matters when you sail.

I just made final payment on our Nov. 20th Panama Canal Cruise. Fees increased $2.38 per person. Not much in the Grand Scheme of things!

Mine was $16.50 a person, that's why I was a bit shocked. You're right, nothing when you are talking about a cruise, but was just wondering.

For my Dec. cruise the taxes went up about $14 per person but our balcony room price went down $100 a person:D

Taxes are taxes, are taxes and when they come out of my pocket I object no matter the amount. I might not be able to do anything about them but make noise and I do that. JMO.:eek:

“Government Fees and Taxes” may include any and all fees, charges, tolls and taxes imposed by U.S. and/or foreign governmental or quasigovernmental authorities including but not limited to U.S. Customs fees, head taxes, Panama Canal tolls, dockage fees, wharfage fees, inspection fees, air taxes, hotel or VAT taxes incurred as part of a land tour, immigration and naturalization fees, and Internal Revenue Service fees, whether assessed on a per passenger, per berth, per ton or per vessel basis. In the case of per ton or per vessel assessments, those assessments will be spread over the passenger capacity of the ship. Government Fees and Taxes are subject to change and Carrier reserves the right to collect any increases in effect at the time of sailing even if the fare has already been paid in full.

Yes, you will have to pay the increase if it indeed increases.

I have truthfully no idea if it has changed one iota since they have stopped sending it out.

Our Westerdam cruise balance for 25 March from Port Everglades was increased by a few bucks yesterday by HAL's Australian agent. I have fully paid the one before, Star Princess, which arrives at Port Everglades on 24 March, but no doubt the increased tax will be added to our on board account. A drop in the ocean really considering what we pay to get to and from the Americas and cruise price.

 

Such is life.
