Mariner Loyalty program

Although we have cruised frequently with HAL we have not been aboard since the introduction of the changes to the loyalty program. Since we will be sailing on the Nieuw Amsterdam soon we have a question which I'm sure some of you will be able to answer.

If one books a suite it seems one gets extra credits and likewise one apparently receives extra credits as a result of having wine, spa treatments, shore excursions, specialty restaurant charges etc added to one's shipboard account. So, our question is, if one books wine packages, dinners, excursions etc in advance, with the amount charged to one's credit card, does one receive the same credits as if one had booked these services or amenities while on board?

Thanks in advance for all you help.

Yes you do. But the credits will not show up until your cruise is over.

We recently returned from b-to-b cruises on Maasdam and all our credits were reflected on our Mariner account four days of the end of our cruise when I checked. That was the first time I looked but the credits could well have been there even earlier but I didn't know it.

We were in "S" suite and got the double days for that as well as credit for our 'spending' as outlined.

With the exception of the casino, virtually all spending against your booking number counts toward the bonus days, up to one bonus spending day for each day of the sailing.

So, anything you pre-purchase counts toward those extra days ... and any gifts (spa treatments, flowers in the cabin, wine packages, etc.) purchased for your sailing by friends or family also count toward the bonus spending days.

I haven't been on HAL since 1994... We gave the Mariner Society the information about our 4 previous cruises (going back to 1985) along with scanned ship photos with us on the ships, since their records did not go back that far....

We got credit for every single night we spent aboard a Holland America ship, even though 2 of them were over 20 years ago!

So you might want to dig up your old records with them and call to get those days added in...

We went from "no star" to "two star" mariners after a couple of e-mails...

The Mariner Society could not have been more helpful... they were terrific!!

Terigo, my experience was similar to yours. My first cruise on HAL was in 1985. A FOUR DAY extravaganza:D to Alaska with my mother, combined with an 11-day Holland America Westours land tour. When I initially checked my new Mariner account, I was pleased to see that they had the four days for the cruise from 'way back when. Then I read the FAQ's that said Alaska land tours would count as well. Bless my pack-rat heart! I dug around in a box of mementos and found the full itinerary on faded and somewhat fragile triplicate form paper. After some e-mails and some scanning, and more than a few trips down memory lane, the full 15 days were credited for that trip. The Mariner Society people with whom I worked were courteous and prompt, and the outcome was perfect.

I know there are others who have said they didn't have records to corroborate, and weren't given the credit they deserve. I'm just grateful to have found the bits and pieces I needed.
