sandinmypants Posted October 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted October 13, 2010 I usually bring my own pillow when we go to our fave A/I because theirs are notoriously hard & lumpy.... how are Royal Caribbeans pillows? I'll be on the Serenade in a few short weeks and wondering if I'll need to bring one? I'm not real picky, I just need one that has some "give" to it! I'll be on the Serenade in a few short weeks and wondering if I'll need to bring one? I'm not real picky, I just need one that has some "give" to it! What I do is I bring two king size pillow cases from home. Then I ask our cabin attendant for 4 feather pillows. I put two pillows in one king case and it feels just like home. jackretired Posted October 13, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 13, 2010 I am a side sleeper and use a memory foam pillow with lots of support. I am going to bring it on my next cruise, for the first time.
Langley Cruisers Posted October 13, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 13, 2010 Perhaps you should just bring your own. Pillows are subjective, anyway. What's great for one is not for another.
Kellykelly68 Posted October 14, 2010 #5 Share Posted October 14, 2010 You can ask for different kinds of pillows? WOW, that cool.
cruisenfever Posted October 14, 2010 #6 Share Posted October 14, 2010 You can ask for different kinds of pillows? WOW, that cool. You can ask, but that doesn't mean you will get what you want. We've just been very fortunate.
ryano Posted October 14, 2010 #7 Share Posted October 14, 2010 I thought the pillows were very comfy and the bedding out of this world. Much better than I am use to at home. As pointed it out though, pillows and bedding are about as subjective as food is :D You might want to bring yours in case you dont like them. I have slept better on both of the cruises I have taken so far than I have in years on land.
BroncosFan2010 Posted October 14, 2010 #8 Share Posted October 14, 2010 I am picky about pillows, and the ones on the Serenade were wonderful when we were on her in August 2010 for a B2B.
bionicman97 Posted October 14, 2010 #9 Share Posted October 14, 2010 I am ok with the pillows, but do find them to be somewhat thin.

I am also very picky about my pillows and found them very soft and comfy when I was on the Serenade a few weeks ago.
mrefer13 Posted October 14, 2010 #11 Share Posted October 14, 2010 Just returned from the Majesty and the pillow(s) were terrible! They really hampered my sleep for the first couple of nights, but switched them and it was much better! I did see passengers carrying their own pillows, guess they are veteran cruisers! lady_cruiser Posted October 14, 2010 #12 Share Posted October 14, 2010 Since we are comparing ships and pillows I have to say that the Voyager pillows are very comfy.
sjcruiser Posted October 14, 2010 #13 Share Posted October 14, 2010 I use down pillows and comforters at home, and the pillow are not as "full" as mine, but are close. I like the bed warm, and the pillows cold, so I often flip the pillows or swap one for the other at night. The comforters and pillows are soft, and comfortable. sandinmypants Posted October 14, 2010 Author #14 Share Posted October 14, 2010 Thanks for all of the comments. I'm not really picky - I just need a pillow that is actually a pillow, and not a lump of cement the size of a shoebox. Sounds like we'll be okay! Thanks again for your help! :)
marci22 Posted October 14, 2010 #15 Share Posted October 14, 2010 Ask for your pillows right away as they do run out.
dulcimergirl Posted October 14, 2010 #16 Share Posted October 14, 2010 The first night, I really missed my pillow, as I didn't have a big fluffy one. I intended to ask my Steward, (which I never saw the entire cruse) but realized there were two really fluffy pillows in the closet. Problem solved. Loved the bedding on the Monarch, I was very comfy. I figured out why they use the heavy-comforter-in-a-duvet. So you don't roll out of bed when its a bit choppy out.
Karma5 Posted October 14, 2010 #17 Share Posted October 14, 2010 The JS I was in on the Serenade had a great matress and pillows . I was surprised that it was so comfortable. In fact, my DH and I booked the same room and ship for 2011.
Ariel's Mum Posted October 14, 2010 #18 Share Posted October 14, 2010 OMG, pillows - not sure I can carry these all the way from the UK ;) This one had never crossed my mind - but now thinking about it - the people carrying pillows when we check into Disney / Universal hotels makes sense. Guess we Scots will have to live with the RCI pillows - just hope they aren't toooooooooo Bad :p
PattyG12 Posted October 14, 2010 #19 Share Posted October 14, 2010 Just off the Serenade last week. The pillows were wonderful. Can't imagine needing to carry any from home.
friendofg Posted October 14, 2010 #20 Share Posted October 14, 2010 Since the airlines started charging for baggage, I no longer bring my own pillow. Instead, I always pack 2 pillowcases with me, and I find that helps me feel more at home when I'm sleeping, even if the pillows themselves are less than ideal. It's also a help if I'm sunburned... nice clean cotton, softened with Downy... zzzz...
sandinmypants Posted October 14, 2010 Author #21 Share Posted October 14, 2010 Definitely leaving the pillows at home. Now if only I could do without about 1/2 of my hair products..... :o But that's a whole 'nother thread!
The Flying Pirate Posted October 14, 2010 #22 Share Posted October 14, 2010 Both my wife and I are pretty picky about pillows. I find the pillows on these ships too thin, but if you double them up I am good with that. My wife brings her own pillow from home. Although we now leave the formal wear at home to make room in the suitcase for the pillow and dive gear.
NordicPrince Posted October 15, 2010 #23 Share Posted October 15, 2010 I suggest having several drinks of the day each day. After that you probably won't care how the pillows are, never mind needing one! Usually after a day in the open sea air I fall blissfully to sleep anyway DW usually travels everywhere with her pillow on land but did not miss it a bit on Jan 2010 B2B on Serenade. Arizona Laura Posted October 15, 2010 #24 Share Posted October 15, 2010 I am ok with the pillows, but do find them to be somewhat thin. I find them "somewhat thin" also!!:D When you lay your head on them they squeeze down to half the size! Laura
jennywren46 Posted October 15, 2010 #25 Share Posted October 15, 2010 Ive found the beds and pillows fine on all the RCI ships weve been on, but always ask for an extra pillow, and had no problems.Shame the hotels weve stayed in in Barcelona and Rome didnt use the same bedding it was like sleeping on the floor the beds were so hard ....;)
