I was on the first leg world cruise Oriana i disembarked in Sanfransico.

i was in a deluxe balcony state room read my lips Barry no iron or iron board. there are two laundry rooms. rumour has it that a fight started in the room over machines being emptyied on the floor a fight broke out and two couples where put ashore in St Lucia the problem with the laundry room many people command machines and leave them others put one item in the dryers.this is a trouble area.

Barry take my advice take 12 pairs of boxers this is for jan feb march trough to dec if you would like them to last longer just turn them inside out.

""rumour has it that a fight started in the room over machines being emptyied on the floor a fight broke out and two couples where put ashore in St Lucia""

The three most important words here are the oft repeated ""RUMOUR HAS IT"" I feel sure that regulars to these forums could write a book about 'Stories and Fights which happen on cruise Liners in the laundry'

The only fights I ever 'hear about' are on here. Of course the one where the ladies dress went missing and was seen on another passenger with the 'Hey that's my dress' and the response of 'prove it' is a well worn one.

There is one story I could relate, but I have to grab my camera, a flight of pigs is passing over my house.

Must go

I have witnessed a thoroughly unpleasant argument - with some pushing and shoving - that occurred in the laundry, so not all urban myths at all.

and were they chucked off the ship?

I don't know about that since I left PDQ, but I have seen with my own eyes, passengers being offloaded, along with their luggage, for causing damage and unruly behaviour.

On that occasion, our first with P&O, we were dining with the Captain, and he confirmed they had been put off!

I can also relate to that. I have only once used the laundry room and it was on a 26 night cruise on Artemis. Decided to wash my underwear. When I got there, all machines were in use, except one that had a notice on it saying "Out of Order". As I stood there, a woman arrived with her washing, removed the Out of Order sign and proceeded to use the machine!! Another woman in the room ironing whispered to me that this person brought her own Out of Order sign!!

So, anyway, I noticed a machine had been stopped for some time, so I emptied out the things and put them in a basket and then loaded my stuff and set it going. The owner of the items I had removed into a basket then arrived and gave me such a mouthful, I did wonder if I was actually on holiday on a cruise!!

On our next longish cruise I simply took 25 pairs of knickers! Holidays are not for washing and ironing!

Only once used the launderette for washing, sometimes go in to do a bit of do a bit of pressing. It's a good place to get the gossip (whether true or false). I usually wash undies through in the bathroom and hang on the line over the bath.

How many irons/ironing positions are there in the laundries ? ( never having had to use them on shorter cruises)

Barry

Some only one.

Aurora on A Deck either 5 or 6, 'possibly' 7 with about 6 washers and 6 driers

Nice big laundrette with big table in the middle :-)

Plenty of socialising there :D:D:D

When i posted this thread i said rumour. I watched from my balcony a officer and three crew members escort a couple and there luggage to a taxi on the wharf of St lucia there was no shaking of hands i would bet money they where kicked off ive been told that P&O have zero tolerance for bad behaviour. Barry stop worrying about irons and washing you are going on a great voyage enjoy. Grumphy.

I perfectly understand why Barry wants to know about the laundry facilities - so do I. We are booked on the full world cruise in 2012. There is no way I would expect anyone else to wash my underwear. It's just a thing I have about it. Neither do I want to wash it through in the cabin on a daily basis. Tried that on a recent cruise and the bathroom looked like a Chinese laundry all the time.

Despite spending a considerable amount of money on a world cruise, I am of the old school, where I believe if you look after the pennies, the pounds will look after themselves, hence being able to go on a once in a lifetime holiday. I have also found that having many sea days, doing the laundry helps keep me grounded, and useful. This might sound strange to some people but I expect there are many who understand my position.

In saying this, I have earmarked some on our OBC to send stuff to be laundered for me - but underwear, no way.

We haven't used the launderette on Oriana but we have those on Ventura. We found that if we popped our washing in the washer when the launderette opened at 8am, the washing was done quite quickly - time for a quick breakfast only. Then it required rather longer in the tumble drier.

Elderflower, our sentiments exactly. Many, many, MANY cruises (I won't be stupid and elongate my signature. I am too mature for that) and we have always adopted the same policy :D

Have a souper crooze. A Worldie is a wonderful experience and we hope to do another some time. Have you read my notes and tips on a world Cruise? ;);)

A gentleman removed the laundry from a machine after waiting for over 20 minutes for the owner, (and placed it in a basket). The laundry contained items of ladies underwear which the owner took exception to when she 'Eventually' returned. After a few coarse words she slapped the chap who then pushed her. She got her husband and it all kicked off.

Those involved were removed from the ship.

P&O do run a laundry and dry cleaning service for a small fee.

The laundry is the social hub of the ship! Like any social hub, this has good and bad points. As an example, there is a hotel not far from me that wins awards regularly, and is also high on the NSW Police list of trouble spots.

But I don't want to wash clothes on board ship any more either. So I don't.

Agree, Elderflower.

For us on a worldie, a day every couple of weeks was laundry day, as was a cabin tidying day. Then thre is the journal to write up, so much to do.

Don't people understand launderette etiquette?

I used one for years and it is normal to unload the washing from a machine when finished. You put it in a basket of course and don't dump it on the floor. If you are sensitive about others looking at your smalls you had better sit there until the machine finishes.

I think it would help a lot , if the cruise line put a list on the wall...

How to Use this Laundry,

and explained the expected procedure to everyone.

hi

i used the laundry on azura as we where on the transatlantic crossing, the first five days the weather was really cold so during the day you seamed to be wearing the same trousers tops and cardigans so i washed dryed and then ironed them, after that every few days i took nightwear, underwear and swimwear to wash and dry.

but sometimes you went in and every machine was full but had all finished with no one turning up for ages,

on azura each deck as a laundry our deck had 4 washing machines 4 dryers and 4 ironing boards and irons.
