I'm watching...I think Carnival has handled this incident brilliantly! For all the knocks they've taken at times concerning communication when the unexpected happens, I think their response to this has been top notch!

Tim Cahill, opening up for questions to Carnival, Coast Guard or Navy.

Approx 1/3 of guests on board drove in, so probably will be bused, not sure how many busses at this time.

Asking about sleeping on deck, also # of children.

Not sure exact number of children, usually fairly large # of kids on board. Conditions, exterior cabins have breeze, people had option of sleeping in cabins or sleeping on deck, Tues morning when checked, most chose to sleep in cabins.

Asking about SD vs Ensenada, safety concerns? Orig going to go to Ensenada because closest port, concerned about speed with tugs. Once hooked up, achieved better speeds than anticipated, guests would be more comfortable going into SD, better access to air, hotels, etc.

Cause of fire? Aft generator room, 6 diesel generators. Gen #5 had an internal malfunction, which caused fire. Surprising that it woud happen, never has before, only 2 years old. crankcase split, causing fire. Isolated to aft generator room.

Are you concerned will pax take offer of free cruise, or will they never crusie again. Obvi this was a horrible experience, but from what they hear onboard ship, guests know they are trying their best. They recognize they have ruined their current cruise.

How much did pax pay on average for this cruise, how much will this cost Carnival.

No idea, haven't looked at anything financial since this thing happended. Not worried about cost, will look at it later.

Any danger to pax at any time? Not really, explainining about fire suppression procedures that automatically happen. No one in any danger, feel very good that systems worked as designed.

Will ship stay in SD or will tow elsewhere? Pool of journalists selected to go onboard Coast Guard cutter with idea of going onboard ship. Now saying Carnival has nixed that idea.

Ship will be repaired in SD, not sure where. Journalists on board, no one had talked to us before, we did discuss it when it was brought up, they decided it would be too disruptive to crew and officers to deal with, alongside with getting travel arrangements to pax.

Pax travelling on refund or partial from prev. crew. Pax allegedly called, diabetic, crying not getting enough insulin? No knowledge of either of those issues.

Telephone/internet access? When power lost, lost cellphone onboard, main satellite onboard. Restored limited phone utilization through satellite, not able to restore cellular yet.

Pools closed/bars closed? Pool closed because of health reasons, sanitary conditions. Bars open, providing free drinks. No casino. Anything off electricity is a problem.

Will journalists have access to pax? Yes, on pier afterwards.

People who don't want to use free cruise, what for them, and next week's pax reimb?

Next week's 100% refund, and 25% off future. This cruise will just make sure no costs to them for this cruise, travel, etc, and give free cruise to make up.

Timeframe for future cruises that might need to be cancelled? Carnival tech team, Lloyds registry, Coast Guard, etc, will all be here to inspect, and determine extent of damage, will make decisions at that time for future cruises.

Someone questioning math of arrival (nerd). Delaying it somewhat to make sure they enter harbor when daylight because of being under tow. So, early tomorrow outside harbor, waiting? Yes.

Someone asking about steering/docking? That's why they have 5 tugs ready.

Concern with malfunction impacting other cruise ships? Safety very important, never had something like this happen before. Don't think they have that risk, but that's what the technicians are going to be looking at. Very unusual situation.

How size compares to ships normally docks in this terminal? This is larger ship than Spirit that normally docks here. Will be a challenge as far as debarkation. over 100 carnival employees to help make it go as smooth as possible.

Someone who didn't hear earlier talk of tugs. 2 pulling, 3 alongside for help, and to assist with docking.

Communication question. 8 phones available onboard, running call center, asking them to use it only for essential communication.

End of news conference, sorry for mispellings, grammar, etc.
