Mrs.N Posted November 12, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2010 We are on the Summit out of San Juan on December 4th (I am sooo excited) I have never cruised before. We have an on board credit, how does this work? If I order the drink package for both of us can we use this credit to pay for part of it?
colocop004 Posted November 12, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 12, 2010 Congrats on your first cruise, I am sure that you will love it!! You can use OBC for any purchases made on the ship. If you plan on purchasing the beverage package prior to your cruise you will not be able to use the OBC for this. Other wise you can use the OBC for the casino, specialty restaurants, individual drink that do not fit in your package, the gift shop etc. Basically this is you on board debit account. Any charges made while on the ship go on the account. With your OBC you will have a positive balance until you epend it all!! Enjoy!!!

An on board credit is simply a credit on your shipboard account. If you pre pay for a beverage package, or an excursion, then you pay for that ahead of time using a credit card. However, if you purchase something like that, or anything else, on the ship, then it is charged to your account and the credit reduces the balance on that account. YMMBug Posted November 12, 2010 #5 Share Posted November 12, 2010 Can the gratuities come out of our OBC? Not the prepaid Select Dining - but the cabin and wait staff in the MDR.

dkjretired Posted November 12, 2010 #7 Share Posted November 12, 2010 Just so you are aware, cruises are basically a cashless society, everything you purchase will go on your on-board account, you can't buy or do anything with cash. The OBC goes towards your purchases on board..

librarylady19 Posted November 13, 2010 #9 Share Posted November 13, 2010 My TA said OBC will show up on my account during the cruise. What if it doesn't? Will I need to take this up with the TA when I get home (booked through an online TA and have written confirmation of OBC) or can it be dealt with onboard? Hi Sandi:) it will show up but maybe not for a few days. If you need to speak with someone you can go to Guest Relations about it. I would give it at least 1/2 way through the cruise though. Your cruise is Sat to Sat right? You know you can check your account on the tv and so if you don't see it there by then? (Say Wednesday) you can see the folks at Guest Relations. Sandi, you're not alone - I worry about the same thing. I always try to bring a confirmation of the OBC onboard with me. Do you have an invoice or something from the TA that indicates the OBC given? If not, maybe you could ask the TA for one. Once our shareholder credit didn't show up on a HAL sailing, and we just brought the OBC confirmation to the front desk and they added it right away. I have always had good luck getting my OBC on X, though. :)
