Can't go back to CCL

I have greatly enjoyed all of my cruises on CCL, but after our cruise on the Oasis we can't go back. The food was better, the shows were better, the cabins were better and the service much better also the decor. I am not bashing CCL, I just think the extra cost of RCCL is well worth it.

A change of pace is always nice. As a person who sails many lines, I've always enjoyed the variety offered by doing that. We just returned to RCI after a 5 year absence and had a great time and will be returning to Carnival next month after 2 1/2 years. The experience is new and fresh to us when we don't sail exclusively on one or two lines and we tend to not notice all of the little changes that bother some people who do.

You say that, but the awesome deals CCL offers sometimes may bring you back. If not, I wish you many happy sailings with RCI. Maybe I'll see you on one of them, we are looking forward to our Allure cruise later this year. :)

Unfortunately, for me thats true, and now that Carnival has almost every rate at 200% .. and I can get lower solo supplements elsewhere .. Carnival is telling me they dont really want us solo cruisers, or need our business any more.

I feel like Carnival is rejecting me .. not the other way around. Unless things change, I doubt I will be booking Carnival any more in the near future. Thats why RCL is now looking better to me.

Carnival is definitely not solo friendly.

Royal Caribbean does not charge the solo cruiser it's non commissionable charge twice like Carnival does. This can be a savings of as much as $300 on some cruises

RCI, NCL, CCL, we have kind of knocked back and forth between them over the past 6-7 years. We like/dislike things about all of them. Certainly never had a time when I would say 'I will never ever sail on another line'. That's just silly to me. Way to narrow your options down.

Agree 100%. I just "came back" to CCL on the Liberty and was generally disappointed but not enough to say "never". I still research all of the lines and when the prices and itinerarys are right, I'll do whomever (but will still give a favorable nod to a couple lines though).

I've probably had better luck overall with NCL but that may be pure coincidence or just my outlook on life at the time. My next one is a Greek cruise on a old school line / smaller ship so the "big guys" don't get me this year.

Enjoy!!!

Everyone picks their own cruise depeding upon expectation and what they are looking for.

Some enjoy higher fares' date=' love all the for-fee dining options and don't mind being surrounded by 5000 people at a shopping mall nor having to travel to see the ocean.[/color']

Others enjoy the cruise experience.

Different strokes for different folks..Thats why they make both chocolate and vanilla ice cream.

And, thanks for letting us all know how substandard you find Carnival..We were waiting with baited breath.

I believe the Dream holds around 4500 people, does it not? And don't all ships have a MDR and buffet where you can eat for free with additional pay restaurants? I fail to understand the logic here. I have done alot of research on Carnival vs Royal and it seems to me that most say they are more alike than different.

I just don't understand why anyone that posts against a particular line, be it Carnival, Royal etc. gets bashed. This post didn't even really say anything bad, just that they now prefer Royal. Why the need to be snarky.

First, I did not see anywhere in his post where he said Carnival was so substandard. In fact, he said "I am not bashing CCL."

Second, your argument about fellow passengers has no merit whatsoever. Please do tell. When did you sail on Oasis to give your first hand account about 5000 people in a mall and not being able to see the ocean? That's very odd. I've been on 2 Oasis Class cruises and that was not what I experienced at all. I've sailed on 4 different popular cruise lines, and I was also blown away by Oasis, so it isn't exactly uncommon.

I hate to say it, but I find your posts to be some of the most snarky and rude on cruise Critic.

Totally agree.

When someone mentions all of the other "pay" restaurants, they normally forget the ones that have multiple choices still have the MDR and other "free" places in addition. Some just don't get it and are way too easily worried about things. AND some of the CCL cruises I've been on have been more expensive, not cheaper than some of the competitors.

And, "By God, if you opinion differs than mine, you're wrong" attitude gets a bit old doesn't it?

we started cruising with RCCL and due to a TA mistake, we yanked our liberty of the seas reservation from her and booked a carnival cruise. We liked our cruise on carnival a lot better than RCCL, but we never said never. Good thing! DH's work keeps giving out RCCL gift certificates. We took one with the gift certificate, but when another came our way we sold it and put the money on a carnival cruise:D I'm glad the OP liked the vacation they took.....that is what vacations are for! However....to come on a carnival board and say that it is substandard is insulting to people who love it. People cruise for different reasons. What you may find an unimportant aspect to cruising may be very important to others. What you may find import, may be shrug worthy to others. Every one is different and prefers different things.

I couldn't agree with the two of you any more.

So the Op loved the Oasis. So what? It's not like he's alone. Why that makes people feel they need to emerge and start feeding their own inferiority complex is way beyond me.

I would -love- to be able to book another RCCL cruise. However, given that the price is usually out of the ballpark compared to Carnival, Carnival I will stay. And I haven't had a bad cruise on Carnival yet. :)

I have only cruised with CCL and one Royal Caribbean. I loved Liberty of the Seas. But also thoroughly enjoyed my previous Carnival cruises, and will soon be on another one.

I actually would even try out other cruise lines as well. I think they all have their good points, from what I have read on here.

I don't think I would turn down a chance to cruise on any ship, to tell you the truth. But I know there are loyal cruisers to each line.

I want to go on the Oasis or Allure someday. I know it will be a great time, and as someone said, it is a destination in itself. But meanwhile I am content to cruise when I can at a more affordable rate. I will still have fun no matter what.

We wanted to do RCI for Spring Break. I looked at a few different ships but they were all at least $300pp higher than Carnival and we needed to book 2 cabins. That's a huge price difference.

My personal opinion is that there really isn't a huge difference between the two lines but I am looking forward to my Carnival cruise so I can make a better comparison. I haven't been on Carnival since...1982? Hey, I'm not old, I was 8!

Funny thing is I saved up my allowance for 6 months and had $50 for that cruise, more money than I ever had. I bought a bunch of souvenirs, spent like crazy and came home with $200. The nickel slot machines were very kind to me. My parents were worried I would develop a gambling addiction. I guess they don't let 8 year olds play in the casino anymore. :D

Wow, what caused this snarky post? I did not read anything negative at all in the OP remarks - certainly didn't deserve the above sarcasm.

Why can't people get over the fact that not everyone lives and breathes just one cruiseline? Open your minds a bit, is what I say!

I agree with enjoying other lines better than carnival. After our first carnival cruise (paradise), my wife said never again. I kept trying to get her to do carnival again and after much debate we did the triumph in October. I am still living down that cruise. By far, the worst ever in all regards. That cruise was so poor in so many ways that we almost canceled our remaining cruises and gave up on cruising. Thankfully, sailing on Princess (Sapphire) and Royal Caribbean (Voyager) brought back our love for cruising. The triumph would have been our last but I had already booked the spirit. Although my wife begged me to cancel the spirit, we are still booked for next month. I like to book by itinerary, but if the spirit disappoints, that might be the end for carnival.

I pick the ship line by the destination so I can't relate but I do understand. For you and your taste this ship was a perfect fit and that is wonderful.

I get a kick out of these comparison threads as I've read many and always enjoyed how different people pick their own favorite food and then think that ship is the best for what they personally like, someone else picks their own food and argues that the food they picked was the best on another line. In the end it always gets down to a personal like or dislike. Enjoy your future cruises and as has been said, never say never.

A perfect line is 2 or 3 favorite things from every line. HALs MDR meals in room service and the bread pudding to die for, NCL's Tapas bar and Creme Brulee, Carnival's Chocolate Melting Cake and night life, etc, etc. I love them all enough to want to blend them. :D

There is nothing wrong with what you said but I was surprised that you felt the need to say it. In any case have many wonderful cruises now that you have found a match for yourself. I think that is great.

We were on the Spirit several years ago and had a very nice time. Hope you have a great cruise.

We've been on RCL, X, and NCL before we went on Carnival. We were prepared to not-like-it. We LOVED it. We would still go on the others, but once we figured in the cabin price per value, we couldn't justify higher prices on other lines. That being said, the thought of cruising on a mall-ship has NEVER appealed to us. CCL is a match for us as we prefer smaller ships and lower cabin prices. More power to you if you like bigger & better. Thank goodness we all have a choice!

Yup, I have no problem with the OP. What a great enthusiastic post. We had booked the Allure for the family and cancelled it when I saw the great deals on the Carnival Med cruises. But the Allure was just "postponed". I love all of the entertainment choices and that you can make reservations for shows. We also have an eye on a Princess cruise and maybe even would like to give Azamara a shot. Love choices and different experiences and even continents. It's great that OP is excited.

LOL...

Amazing....god forbid someone should like RCI more than Carnival. The entire world must be about to come crashing down.

Seriously why do some of you care SO much that everytime someone has a similar opinion to that of the OP's the rudeness and snarkiness comes out in droves?? Why is it necessary? If someone prefers RCI to Carnival, so what? And if they want to express that, who cares?? Is money going to come out of your pocket? Are you going to go without food tonight? Is it going to stop you from cruising? Some of you MUST be on the Carnival payroll because no other explanation makes sense for this behavior.

OP I'm glad you found a cruiseline you're happy with. If you ever change your mind, Carnival will be there waiting for you with open arms. Enjoy your next cruise on whatever line that may be.

Go, enjoy, and one day we will see you back...

Personally, there is nothing on the Oasis or Allure, or any RCI ship that would lead me to book them. I can't justify paying more for a skating rink or rock climbing wall I will never use or never want to use....

You'll be back, when price is important, then you'll see the light when you can have more money for those tasty frozen drinks each night....

Me, I'll stick with Carnival and Princess when I can afford to go on a 14 day Panama Canal transit....whenever that it...or Tahiti and her islands...
