Back from Oasis - Never got off the ship!

This was our second trip on the Oasis (we like to escape the snow in February). She is just as amazing and the crew is just as wonderful as she was in her Inaugural season.

I cruised with my DH, my 16-year-old son, my 7-year-old daughter, and my in-laws. It was the best, most relaxing vacation of my life. What was the difference between last year and this one? Well, I NEVER GOT OFF THE SHIP this time!

We'd already "been there, done that" on all the stops on previous cruises(Labadee, Costa Maya and Cozumel) and while some of our party got off the ship ... I stayed and played with my kids in the empty pools and/or enjoyed the peace of the Solarium while they were enjoying their kid-friendly activities. Aahhhhhh....

I was never bored, never hungry :) and never for a moment regretted staying on board. It might not be the ideal cruise for everyone, but it was a fun thing to try on this trip.

Just thought I'd share.

Oh, and now I'm counting the days until I can have my next roast beef sandwich -- come on, February 2012!

That sounds heavenly to me! I'm glad it worked so well for you. The DH is mister go-go-go all the time, so I doubt I will ever be able to experience that. But it would be my dream to go on the ship and not get off. The empty spaces are the most intriguing for me. Sigh......

I agree, we basically chose this cruise because of the ship itself. Just curious, was your cruise the Feb. 5th one, and if so did you attend the repeat cruisers fest and the Labadee send off from the helipad. Also, your reference to the R/B sandwich, we ate most of our breakfast/lunch meals at the Park Cafe. This and Sorrento, to my opinion, are the little nuggets on the Oasis.

sounds like my cruise on Allure last month. been to all the islands many times. So other than St. Martin; where they have shops right at the dock; no reason to venture out. Loved the ship; the ship was my destination for this cruise.

Same here. Last year we only got off the ship in Costa Maya but this year on Allure we have no intentions of leaving the ship..I love labadee but might even skip that in May. We love it when the ship is half empty and quiet.

We did the same ports when we sailed the Oasis. Got off for about an hour and hurried right back on. :D

I also stayed on the Oasis on my Feb 5th cruise to enjoy the ship, besides this being my 3rd cruise with the same itinerary in the past year. An amazing ship.

We will be on our 2nd cruise on the Allure in May and we do not plan to get off the ship. To us, the Allure is the destination.

Not a bad thought. When we try Oasis for the first time in December, I plan to stay on the ship for Nassau. I'd stay on for St. Thomas too, but DH has never been, so it would be good to stretch our legs.

St. Maarten - going for the booze stockup and Maho Beach!

My DW and I went on the Oasis last May and didn't get off the ship except for Labadee. The ship WAS the destination!

One reason is the cost of land tours, anymore. When we first cruised, a simple city tour was about $7.00 or less. Now, you are looking at $30-$40 for a simple city tour. This is at least three times the rate of inflation. Of course, the nice land tours we took now cost $60-$100 (and up) for each person, which makes the experience far more expensive than just the cost of the cruise, itself, if you filled up your time on the islands.

IMHO, if the land tour costs don't start getting more realistic, the islands are going to suffer economically. I would hate to see that. We love the people we meet on the islands and would hate to see them effected.

Sailed Oasis three times last year and did the same thing on our third cruise in May and was perfectly happy and content to stay within the confines of this wonderful ship:)

We actually didn't go to the Labadee send-off or the returning cruisers fest ... we were travelling with family member who were first time cruisers on the Oasis and wanted to spend time showing them around and watching their reactions!

I totally agree about Park Cafe and Sorrento's (make-your-own-pizza is so excellent!) ... I think I could eat all my meals at either/both -- except I feel compelled to show up to the dinner table in the MDR so I can see my family ... hahaha! :)

I was curious about this, too. So on the Costa Maya day when I stayed on board, I did some exploring. The casino, the stores (Promenade and Boardwalk) and a couple of the bars are closed from what I found. I think the Solarum Bistro was closed, too ... but there are plenty of roaming bartenders and NO wait at any of the other eateries. And best of all, my little girl had the entire splash zone pool and "circle pool" all to herself ... she felt like a princess!! It was amazing.

We are going on Oasis in May for our first visit. We have visited all of the ports on many previous occasions and will follow everyones advice and remain on the ship. I know that on many of the smaller ships most of the facilities on board close when the ship is in port, for example the main dining room and many of the bars.

On Oasis what remains open?. Is the Park Cafe and Sorrento's open when in port and does the main dining room close at lunch time?. Is it possible that someone has a copy of the cruise compass and could list which restaurants and bars open on all of the port days?. We are stopping in Labadee, Falmouth, Costa Maya and Cozumel.

We are cruising the Oasis in Sept and except for Maho Beach at St. Maarten, I don't think we will be getting off the ship either!! Been/there/done/that on the Islands. The ship will definitely be the destination for us this cruise-can't wait.

Staying on the ship when in port is wonderful! Love feeling like we're on our own personal yacht! Our experience was one of our first cruises. We were in Key West and decided to go back to the ship to eat dinner. It was close to sunset. We got a drink and had the most magnificent view ever with a gorgeous sailboat in the water. WoW! There wasn't a soul around. We had the entire deck to ourselves. That was our first discovery of how wonderful being one of the few passengers staying on ship in port can be. Great romantic momemt coupled with the making of a great memory!

We will be sailing the Allure in October, and this is almost our plan. We will probably only get off the ship in Labadee, since we love it there. Plan to stay on the ship and try to see it all in the 1 week we will be on her! We have stayed on the ships several times while in port, and it is so very peaceful and no lines for whatever is open. I remember on our Freedom cruise, we stayed on while in port in Cozumel, and enjoyed the flowrider. No lines! It was great!
