Yes for sure. It would save me money. We used a drink package on Celebrity and loved it. I have seen drunks on cruises without the drink packages. I hope it goes fleet wide. This is why AI's are so great, one price pays your air fare, transfers, hotel, food and drink.

No Way!! I would pass out trying to drink the minimum price;) But Im glad they have them...it's a way for the big drinkers to get what they need without passing on the cost to me, one of the reasons I don't like AI's is because I end paying for everyone elses booze, because I get tipsy on my single glass of wine and don't ever drink much more than that!

Now, if they have a package for ice cream and shakes...that I could get on board with :D

Yes, yes, YES!!! I think we would be saving a bit, but I also really like spending a specific amount of money before we start vacation and being done with it. Our next trip was going to be an all-inclusive (we tend to alternate each year) but if this does roll out fleet-wide, we may switch to strictly cruising...for us it's the best of both worlds! I bet they would gain more business from this w/out any real "cons" for people not wishing to purchase.

I agree 100%. I don't really see any down fall. Many people who in the past would have been reluctant to cruise will now jump at the opportunity. Also, many all inclusive resorts only offer domestic drinks where as RCI has premium beverages.

p.s. Go Bulls.

Nope. We rarely drink more than 3 drinks a day. I usually have one while sitting by the pool or up on the deck, a glass of wine at dinner and maybe a drink after dinner. Not worth it at all. We also will get a GS as often as possible which means we don't have to buy drinks in the evening before dinner anyway. We figure we spend no more than $15-$18/person on drinks per day (even when we dont' have a GS). Some days it's just a glass of wine at dinner and one at the show. Maybe one night per cruise we'll stay out late and I might have 5 drinks that day total.

The nice thing about these packages on a cruise unlike an all-inclusive resort is that you don't have to purchase it if you don't want too. For those who drink less than 4-5 drinks a day and are unable to recoup the value then feel free to purchase your drinks a la carte.

There are many of us who would get our monies worth, and would do so responsibly.

I answered "yes", but that isn't really a complete answer:

Yes, I would buy a drink package for my husband, who likes to drink beer. For him, it'd be a convenience not to think about how many he's drinking /not to sign the paperwork and check to see that he's not been mis-charged at the end of the week.

No, I would not buy a drink package for myself because I drink only fru-fru drinks, and I drink fewer than one per day. I'd never, ever be remotely close to this being a good deal.

Of course, they probably will never allow only one person in a cabin to have the package, so he'd probably never get it.

True, after stopping the trial on Independence, they made changes, before re-instating it, one of which is that all eligible people in a stateroom have to purchase the package (i.e. all those of age to drink alcohol) to ensure there is no sharing of the package. Prices were increased by $10 per day per package too.

We had the drinks package on Celebrity Equinox last year and it worked out really well for us. We are a group of 4, the 2 men had the beer package and my friend had the frozen drinks one, I did not have a package - reason being I like an odd beer occasionally and then a gin & tonic before dinner and a glass of wine with food so no package would work for me. There was no requirement for me to take a package because my husband had one. I can see that this could be abused though with drinks sharing but it worked well for us and we would definitely do the same again.

My vote would be no. I drink maybe one soda in a weeks time. My husband and I typically have 1-2 cocktails a day.

We've purchased soda packages for the kids in the past and once a wine package. We learned that it is less expensive for us to buy sodas one at a time, the wine package too restrictive.

Hi, just returned from Navigator's tour of the Western Med; brilliant trip except for the approach taken to the wine by RCL. Wine menu has Pinot at 33 or 37 USD as cheapest bottles. The same bottles are on sale at Fiumicino airport for 8 Euros - its just bargain booze plonk dressed up as a connoisseurs pick. What worse, have a meal in Portofinos (the on board specialist restaurant) and another 5 USD is added to the bottle price (plus 15% service charge). Takes the edge off a great trip.

we have just returned from the Navigator and I have to say the juice and water packages are just unpractical - especially water. We have moved to bottled mineral water because I get heartburn from the chlorine in the "tap" water and since we drink 2 bottles at each meal we tried a 12 bottle one on a 7 day trip..... well to start out it only arrived late on the second night (after calling twice) and then basically you had to shlepp 2 bottles to the dinning room every evening.

After this experience I prefer the Celebrity package which allows me to order where ever I am. Much better.

I voted yes but am still hesitant

yes - because its budgeted for, my "sometimes scrooge" husband will just have "another" beer if he wants one rather than moaning about the prices and grudgingly going without.

no - not really sure that we will hit the amount we need to drink per day on our port intensive cruise

But think I would still prefer to know in advance how much our drinks have cost rather than trying to keep track of them all week to be conscious we don't over-spend

A massive yes!

At least some of the non-drinkers have stopped saying how they'll be subsidising the drinkers on cruises if this was to be implemented.

This was/is very the other way around as obviously the more $$$ you're spending on the ship the more you're subsidising those not :).

I'd sign up for these in a heartbeat, port intensive of not. It's the thing (actually the only thing) that irks me greatly about Royal Caribbean.

Myself and my other half spend way over what we would on the ship than what we would at home.

Last cruise, a 12 nighter this basically worked out at about £100 a day (probably 70/30 split between us).

Whilst I/we do drink this is twice the cost of what will occur on a night out at home and the sooner I/we (and everyone else that likes a few) feel less ripped off the better.

After all, that alcohol that they are selling is duty free and port/country tax free and is still being sold at top $.

I cannot find pricing for the wine packages? My cruise is too far out so it does not allow you to even get pricing? So how much is it for a 7 day cruise for the gold package? Do you get all the wines listed or do you choose one per day?
