I am going on explorer this Saturday - i have been on her 3 times already but am curious if any swimming will be possible due to the temperatures. ie will my 8 yr old get to swim in the pool and ocean. Also have a 2 yr old and hoping the kiddie pool is slightly warm. Has anyone been on the EOS last week or week b4 that can let me know?

I was on Explorer 3/11/14 and they did have the drink vouchers. I believe it was a trial period for a few sailings only. Going back on 5/22/14 and I could let you know when I return.

The 3 drink voucher was pre-loaded onto your SeaPass card. Drink vouchers cannot be redeemed in the dining room, specialty restaurants or the Windjammer Café and it worked out fine.

I was on her March 29-April 5. It was too cold to use the pools until Day 3. We didn't use the kiddie pool. There were people using the hot tubs on Day 1 and 2. It was also too cool on the last day.

The 3 drink voucher was pre-loaded onto your SeaPass card. Drink vouchers cannot be redeemed in the dining room, specialty restaurants or the Windjammer Café and it worked out fine.

 

Plus you get a menu of what you can order from the bars.

 

Couple of notes on that- first of all, the bar may not have an item- we tried to get the port wine at the Champagne bar, and they did not have it. Second- if a coctail uses multiple alcohols- they all must be on the menu- I ordered a Manhattan, but the vermouth that is available in the lounges is not on the menu- so I could not get it. (the bartender did make some nice alternative, well earning a tip). It works, but the system does have kinks.

 

We just sailed on the Explorer on the April 5-10 trip, first trip for the Bermuda season. Sorry that we don't keep compasses, nor did we use the dining room (but for once).

 

It was a great trip.

You should be OK swimming on board, but the water temps are only going to be around 70 in Bermuda. That's uncomfortable for swimming without a wetsuit. I don't remember if I've seen your name on our roll call, if you haven't joined it yet jump on in. See you guys Saturday

How are the portion sizes in the MDR? I have heard mixed reviews. I have the 8:15 so I'll probably have a snack before, just wondering how big the portions are.

The portion sizes are fine. I have a big appetite and I never left hungry. I usually get soup and an appetizer, an entree, and dessert. That and the great rolls they keep bringing made sure that I was always well satisfied

On the staterooms with a window on deck 2 they can sleep 4 people, one bed and two pull down beds. Are the pull down beds directly over the one main bed, or are they above the sides of the bed?

 

Also, could someone just sleep on the couch instead of a pull down bed? I'm curious because the couches in the pictures look pretty long enough to sleep on.

I'd be uncomfortable sleeping on the couch. Much rather be in the pullman.

The couches are not long enough to sleep on no matter how they may look in the pictures.

It's not unusual for the smell of sewage to appear from time to time on cruise ships.

Neither. I'd choose a hump on deck 9, because I don't want to hear the noise from deck 11.

Our last cruise was on Legend 10 nighter, it was so irratating hearing the Band playing and chairs scraping across the floor. (This was the 1st time on any cruise I had heard the noise.) Did you notice this same thing?

We usually notice some noise from above when we're right below the pool deck. Sometimes it's just an occasional bump, or kids running. Other times it's every morning at 4am when they are arranging deck chairs. We try to avoid being right under the pool deck.
