Captain's Reception on Oceania?

We are cruising on Regatta to Alaska shortly. Is there some sort of Captains reception or is that not done on Oceania?

Yes, there is a "Captains' Cocktail Party" which is normally held early in the evening of the first sea day.

If you have no sea days, then they try to fit it in as best they can around port arrivals, while trying to keep it early in the cruise (check your daily program).

Expect the Captains Cocktail Party to be held in the Main show lounge. Waiters walk about with trays of canapes and cocktails. The ships Orchestra will be playing for dancing.

Enjoy your cruise-

However it is more "laid back" that on other lines. No ships photographer, no dressing up and most people have a drink and then go to dinner.

If you chose not to go, it is a great time to enjoy Martinis or one of the other spaces as they are usually pretty much empty.

Since repeat passengers have an Oceania Club reception on a different night, many of us skip the captains reception.

We cruised the Med in April-May on Insignia on a b2b and the Captain's Reception was held in 3 locations with the ship's officers circulating through the Lounge, Martinis, and Horizon. Less crowded for sure, and easier to have great conversations with officers and staff but we missed the opportunity to mingle with other passengers.

If you dont like wine or champagne that they pass around you can request the drink of your choice

We came off Regatta last week, they used this same format. In our opinion it is a disaster. The Captain did not make the normal welcome speech in Regatta Lounge & attendence was poor due to confusion. We were told by one of the singers that Miami had changed the way it is done & had been changed the cruise prior to ours. The Captain was around the entrance for a short spell but after we were seated. In the past we enjoyed this gathering but it has lost that nice welcome feeling. Someone fixed sometrhing that was not broken.

On my Regatta cruise the reception was held simultaneously in Martini's, Horizons and the Regatta Lounge with the Captain supposedly visiting all three locations. Never saw him. Didn't care. But I did get one of their mini martinis (the kind they serve everywhere except Martini's where they cost more) before heading off to dinner.

Just came from a 16 day cruise on the Marina. The Captain's Cocktail Party was announced in the daily Currents and we almost missed it. The party was held in three locations on the ship and the captain moved around. The cocktail party was not held in the Lounge which is a really badly designed venue even for entertainment. You sit in narrow seats with little pull up trays. Reminds me of taking a college 101 class with 200 other students in an auditorium.
