Earlier posts on this thread indicated that the replacement would be Ron Holmes, who is presently on Adventure. I don't know anything about Captain Holmes -- could some posters enlighten us. thanks

With Captain Grimstad going to Allure and not knowing when Captain Holmes will start on Freedom, it will hard to figure out who will be captain on FR on our Jan. 12, 2014 cruise.

by the way, "northern lower michigan"? charlevoix? traverse city? there are a lot of other places that fall under that definition, but those are the two prettiest (IMO)...

1 hour away from one of those 2 cities you mentioned. I was born in Detroit and spent the first 14 years of my life there, then Dad moved the family to Canada. I lived in Ontario during my high school days but returned to Michigan for college. One of my college friends was from "up north" and introduced me to my future husband, and I've been here ever since.

pretty much anywhere 'up north' is a lot nicer than pretty much anywhere 'down south' - especially southeast :eek:

 

several high school friends (from bloomfield hills where i'm originally from) live up north.....they LOVE posting all those breathtaking pictures on their FB pages! definitely looks just this side of heaven :)

Expect Captain Olav Nyseter to retire within the coming three weeks. He's the longest serving employee of Royal Caribbean having joined the company in 1962. He is a most wonderful, down-to-earth individual and he will surely be missed upon the seas.

That makes sense as his rotation comes to an end around the end of August according to Karen's chart. Wonder if his son's retirement had anything to do with his father's possibly retiring. Wonder who will replace him on EX

You would think that people whose job it is to sell the cruise experience would understand that for some folks, especially the most loyal customers, the CAPTAIN of a ship is as much a part of a cruise decision as any other attribute for which they spend MILLIONS of dollars to advertise and promote.

 

They publish the ship itineraries years in advance, I know that I personally have reached a point in my level of cruise experience where I will always check to see who the captain will be before I make a final decision.

 

Sometimes it just astounds me.

Interesting theory, I have not seen such discussions. How might one market to new cruisers specifically in a way that does not also market to returning passengers?

Rotations are 10 weeks on and 10 weeks off. If I counted the weeks correctly, then yes, he should be on your October 27th sailing. In fact, he should be boarding the same day you are.

I would watch this thread carefully because with the Captains changing (some in mid-rotation) it could vary. The captain who is familiar with the ship often stays on for an extra week to orient the new captain.
