MMMD Posted July 11, 2011 #26 Share Posted July 11, 2011 I never even set foot in the pool on my cruise! Those first couple hours were spent looking around, making new friends and having a drink on our balcony. Maybe since we have a pool and hot tub at home we didn't even think about the ones on the ship. It is fun to watch people jump in the pool almost immediately. Mom.to.2 Posted July 11, 2011 #27 Share Posted July 11, 2011 We're "those people" too. We pack swimsuits in our carry-on. It's great to get into the hot tub before most other guests have even boarded. Like cruisinmama said, sitting in the hot tub signifies the start of vacay for my kids. We always cruise out of the northeast in the winter/early spring, so perhaps that has something to do with our excitement to get wet? I'm not sure the hot tub would have the same effect if we were cruising out of FL.
TahoeBob Posted July 11, 2011 #28 Share Posted July 11, 2011 we just love the people are determined to get their vacation started as soon as they walk on! I start my vacations the second I start my car for the 60 mile drive to the airport.
cruiseturbo Posted July 11, 2011 #29 Share Posted July 11, 2011 My mom and I tried to be those people when we went on the Allure in May. We had already sailed on the Allure in Dec so we didn't need to explore and we thought for once we were going to change into our suits once we got on and enjoy the pool area while everyone else was exploring the ship. Wouldn't you know it rained!! We ended up never changing into our suits and sitting under cover on the pool deck with a couple of drinks! Still had a lot of fun! Of Course the rain stopped around sailaway time when everyone else had migrated to the pools but hey we will try again next time! We still found plenty to do and had fun but we didn't achieve "being one of them!":D Debra
rummenroman Posted July 11, 2011 #30 Share Posted July 11, 2011 I usually wear board shorts the first day, that way I have the option to hit the pool or to stay dry and hang out on the pool deck. I have been in a few bathrooms that had people changing in, or some other sort of clothes removing activity........
Rare BillOh Posted July 11, 2011 #31 Share Posted July 11, 2011 Swim suits are in the carry ons and the bathrooms near the pool usually have stalls with enough room. I'm in or by the pool, the hot tub comes at night, which is a whole other topic for me.
malprl Posted July 11, 2011 #32 Share Posted July 11, 2011 These are my people! It's DAY 1 of your cruise - so make the most of it. I usually wear my suit under a sundress and I'm by the pool within an hour of boarding. You have the pool to yourself and it's absolutely wonderful since very few people are there. You have your choice of pools and loungers. Gotta love it.
Rare BillOh Posted July 11, 2011 #33 Share Posted July 11, 2011 We are definitely those people. The swimsuits are either in the carryon or we are wearing them under our clothes. Love being the only ones in the pool!!:) On Allure, we were quick to figure out the chairs in the beach pool were the most coveted ones. Got to talk to a few other nice people while everyone was still exploring. This another reason to get on the ship early.
sky0000547 Posted July 11, 2011 #34 Share Posted July 11, 2011 Never have I made the pool on day 1. Rare LittleMissMagic Posted July 11, 2011 #35 Share Posted July 11, 2011 When my little sister and I were kids, the first thing we always wanted to do was hit the pool. Our parents packed our swimsuits in our carry-on bags. I remember being in a wet swimsuit for muster when I was about seven years old.... my mother had warned me, but I didn't care - I wanted to swim! :D
Rare BecciBoo Posted July 11, 2011 #36 Share Posted July 11, 2011 Wow:eek: I'm astounded that so many NEVER use the lovely pools onboard. We don't usually do the pool the first day, but my favorite area on the ships is the Solarium, even if you don't do water...it's so tranquil amid the hustle and bustle of embarkation...and then the drink of the day comes right to you and away you go.:p

We also live about 20 minutes from PHL - Media, Delaware County. Our vacation "officially" starts after we get through security and have an "adult beverage" at Chickie and Petes'. We usually spend "pool/pool bar time" when we first get on the ship but since this is our first time on Allure, I have a feeling we will be exploring. Cant wait! :)
Venusleo1 Posted July 11, 2011 #40 Share Posted July 11, 2011 DH and I plan on doing just this on our Majesty sailing at the end of the month. Since the cruise is sooo short we want to get as much "vacation time" as we can. We live in FL so we plan on getting dropped off at the port at 11am and hopefully be poolside with a cocktail by 11:30. We'll hang out then go have lunch later then back to the pool till Dinner time! dixieva Posted July 11, 2011 #41 Share Posted July 11, 2011 Not me! I have no desire to get in the pool on embarkation day. We always board early, have a nice lunch and then walk around the ship until our room is ready. We like to check out the dining room for the location of our table. We walk around the casino to check out the slot machines. By this time our room is ready so we can start to settle in. I do enjoy the pool later on during the cruise! Puffinater Posted July 11, 2011 #42 Share Posted July 11, 2011 We are on a B2B in October out of San Juan. We've been told that we will only have to go to a designated place on the ship and get our new sea pass cards so we won't get off at all, just stay and enjoy the ship. Also told that a special luncheon is held in the MDR for the B2B's. We are in the same cabin for both cruises so no packing or waiting for luggage. Come on and join us. Cyndi That is what happened on our Adventure B2B in March. We chose to get off the ship. When coming back to the ship you do not wait in line (you get an in transit card) you go to the front show the card and just walk on in. You show your new Sea Pass to get on the ship. Sequim88 Posted July 11, 2011 #43 Share Posted July 11, 2011 to turn in our old sea pass cards and they were delivered b ack to our room the next day. We also received new seapass cards the day before at a meeting. On B2B do they close out one account (and charge credit card) then start a new one for leg 2? As for hitting the pool after boarding... I wear my birthday suit under my clothes. :D So no swim for me. We prefer a light snack (we eat early breakfast) then hit spa for embarkation specials, speciaty restuarants to make last minute reservations and explore if it is a new class of ship for us. Especially if we board pretty early. Nice to get around and see things before the crowds accumulate in public areas waiting to get into cabins. Canadian Tyler Posted July 11, 2011 #47 Share Posted July 11, 2011 Best part of boarding early! We were the first ones in the pool on our last cruise. It was funny sitting in the hot tub watching people come through with their luggage. We packed swimsuits in our carry on. addicted2 Posted July 11, 2011 #50 Share Posted July 11, 2011 We too either wear our swimsuits onboard or have them in our carry-on. We have a pool at home and am not a huge fan of public pools. We like to be in the pools when there is room to move around and that is usually only on embarkation day. They get way to crowded the rest of the cruise. It is funny to watch the expressions on others faces when they are walking around and we are the only ones in the hot tubs and pools. They always comment that they wish they had thought to have brought their suits with them.
