So are we crazy? Just wondering what people think

Recommended Posts

We didn't cruise in 2011 due to daughters wedding. So as soon as wedding was over we booked on Serenade for January 14, 2012. Then found out sister in law and her hubby are going on Serenade on February 25, 2012 so we decided to go with them on the same ship (God I love the Serenade) with the same itinerary. We already decided and we are going just wondering what you all think about it. Would you do it? Slow day at work so I have lots of time to read :)

I don't see a problem, assuming you all get along well. Other question I might ask, does either couple want some alone time. We like to cruise with my sister and her husband, but also know when to go alone.

We will spend more time apart then together. Probably have meals together. I like mountain biking, hiking, going to the gym and sun worship and none of the other 3 do.

Absolutely. If you enjoy it once, you will enjoy it again. RCI seems to have the same menus across the fleet so changing ships wouldn't make a difference in this and each port is what you make of it that day. Go, have fun with your family, and enjoy the luxury of being able to spoil yourself with a second vacation. :)

I would change the January cruise to just before or just after the February cruise and make it a B2B save on the airfare. This way you would get both itineraries! Love the Southern Caribbean!

You know I thought about that but the January cruise (we usually cruise in February) is a group organized by our TA of her "special" customers that has some really good pricing and perks attached to it so I couldn't and the other couple can't go until end of February so they can't move so I am stuck with two airfares.

I think it's a great idea (would have been perfect if you could have done a B2B). I'm sure after all the planning and stress of your daughter's wedding...planning for a cruise was fun. Our son is getting married 9/3/11 and my husband and I are going on Oasis 10/22! I would have gone immediately following the wedding but I was concerned about hurricanes. Enjoy your cruises!

Hi neighbor. It was SW Ohio's past winter that made it an easy decision to go on two cruises. I know it was colder than usual but it was so much longer than usual without a cruise.

We are doing exactly the same thing. Had the Liberty booked for February 23, saw a fantastic deal for December 15, and decided to go twice. I love the planning and anticipation almost as much as the cruise itself, and would rather have that twice than do a B2B. And just think about how easy it will be to leave the Serenade the first time, knowing you will be back so soon :D

Crazy?? No...why would you say that???:p

Serenade is a great ship....I am going on Explorer for the 11th time in November...at this point I don't even care WHERE i go...I just want to be on a SHIP! (ok, well as long as there is sand, palm trees, sun and frozen thinggies....)

Enjoy!

I thought some folks thought it might be crazy to do the exact same cruise just weeks apart and I am having a slow day at work and was hoping to visit with a few people and see what they thought. Obviously no one thinks it's crazy to cruise on the same ship with the same itinerary only weeks apart. I don't either. :D

In terms of doing the same itinerary twice...we look at a cruise itinerary like a tasting menu. You only have a day in each port, and there are always more things to see/do/experience/enjoy than you can fit into one day. We always enjoy going back to a port so we can do something new. Enjoy!!

I think it's a GREAT idea! At this point we cruise for the ship and the ports are an added bonus. We find it much more relaxing since we have been to a lot of the same ports. We did a cruise on Independence March of 2010 with my sister and brother in law. I was a little bit nervous how it would turn out since the hubby and I usually cruise by ourselves. We like to relax by the pool, enjoy the lounges and bars on board and when we are in port find a nice beach to go to. My sister and brother in law don't like the beach and like to explore, sightsee and do excursions. During the day we went our separate ways after breakfast and would catch up later in the day and have dinner together every night. My sister and brother in law don't drink or gamble so when we went to the casino or lounge they would go to a show or do their own thing.

We did book a tour with Bernards in St. Marteen and spent the day together there and had a great time. Our balcony cabins were next to each other but not connecting. We had an absolutely wonderful time. Enjoy both cruises. They will both be totally different experiences even though you are going to the same ports. Wanda

We seem to enjoy ports much better on the second visit. When you first visit a new port you are finding your way around and are unsure about everything - how to get to a beach, how to get into town etc etc. Second time you have a much better idea of what you are doing and how to get there - and seem to enjoy it more. :) We have been to many ports more than once - as I guess a lot of people have.

Just curious just how good the price is and what the perks are. Could you give us the category and price.

Just can't see how paying air fare twice is going to offset the prices and perks you got. Airfare is expensive to San Juan and the cruises are priced really low in San Juan compared to some other destinations.

I would do the b2b and not deal with the extra 2 flights.

and Maybe you can even get the same cabin for both cruises and make it really easy.

Jimbo:)

Sure, why not. We went on the Voyage of the Seas last December and again last March. Some of the theater shows were the same, especially the shows with the Royal Caribbean singers and dancers. Others were different -- it depends on entertainment acts booked. But for me I don't mind the repeated shows. I never get tired of cruising.

Nothing wrong with repeat trips! I've done the Monarch bahamas 3-day three times within a year period. Done the Adventure southern itinerary twice. Sometimes it matters more of who you go with. Also, you can take your time in the ports, and not feel the need to see everything in one trip.

I'm so glad you posted this! When we booked our cruise on the Voyager, I asked my brother- and sister-in-law to join us. They went on a cruise last summer and it was their fantastic cruise photos that really tipped the balance for us on deciding to go on our first cruise ever.

Lo and behold, it was the Voyager that they traveled on! I've been feeling guilty about "making" them go on the same ship twice in a row, but now I'm finding out that there's no "making" about it. Now I don't think they're crazy at all to come with us this fall!!!
