generally dumb questions

my wife and I are crusing out of NYC on the Carribean Princess New England/Canada cruise August 13th.

What typically is the weather in Halifax at this time of year?

How formal are formal nights? Is a jacket and polo shirt OK?

Is there ballroom dancing or just a Lounge?

We are not flying to port so are there any luggage restrictions?

Thanks

You can easily get weather averages for Halifax online. Just search for weather in Halifax by month. Other than that, it should be comfortable during the days and cool at night.

As for luggage, depending on the size of the closets, you might be able to get them in there, though they will take up a lot of space. Some lines will store your empty suitcases, but you will have to ask on the line's board about that.

Even if you have solid-sided luggage, if it won't slide under the bed when it is zipped up, try opening it up, and sliding it under the bed with the top flopped open -- it worked for us.

A jacket & polo shirt will not cut it on Princess. You may be denied admission to the dining room. DH wore a tux but my dad only wore a dark suit & complained that he felt & looked underdressed compared to other passangers.

Check the extended forcast for Halifax.

Believe me, you won't be alone in a jacket that doesn't match your trousers, but I would bring a tie. Under the jacket it will look format even with a polo shirt.

Lounges are used for ballroom dancing, the schedule will be left in the cabin every night.

Not really, some electric appliances are not allowed - I've seen questions about irons, this is a no-no.
