Kids in CL?

Recommended Posts

Keep in mind....this lounge is for suite guests....D+ being allowed the use of the CL is a privilege not a god given right.

You are EXACTLY right! The Concierge Lounge is a Suite Lounge in which D+ are permitted as a loyalty perk. If the rules of the lounge are tweeked to fit the preferences of suite guests, D+ members really have no room to complain, especially when, for now, D+ is still allowed to use the room. This is a privilege for D+, not a right, and it is the responsibility of every D+ member to abide by their rules as not to ruin it for everyone.

Go ahead fellow D+ers. Keep sending in your complaints about your disapproval of the rules for which something you are given the courtesy to be included in and see what happens.

Sorry....but it's NOT just D+ that are not happy about this...I have read quite a few 'suite' bookers that are not happy either........Seems to me the average suite booker is over 60 and travels with no children.......at least from what I've seen on the cruises I've been on.......

Never said it was "just" the D+ nor did the poster I quoted.

I think that greatly varies with what ships you tend to sail on and time of year....on most Freedom and Oasis class ships, suites are big with families.

The lounge isn't a right for anyone including suite guests, it is a perk for all who have access to it.

Exactly right! Amazing to me that anyone feels they have the RIGHT to anything that's given as a perk or bonus. Be it for purchasing a suite or for loyalty.

I disagree. It was originally a Suite Lounge. It is now a lounge offered to Suite guests and upper tier Crown and Anchor members.

Well then, why are they building Diamond Lounges on new ships and adding them to older ships?

Why does the Concierge contact suite guests ahead of their cruise, not D+?

When RCI starts getting overloaded with crowding complaints, who do think it will be that gets bounced from the CL (hint...look what happened to D)?

No, the lounge is not for both. The lounge is for suites and D+/P are extended the privilege as a loyalty perk. That's not just my opinion. It's been RCI's stance since the perk was created.

I agree, and I don't think that complaining about kids in the lounge is going to help Dplussers. They're complaining about something that hasn't even happened yet and shouldn't affect their ability to get a free drink.

I knew I should have reworded that. I mean that no one has experienced a lounge full of screaming kids taking up all the chairs yet.

If people were coming back reporting such events, then it would be time to complain. Now people just sound like ingrates.

When RCI starts getting overloaded with crowding complaints, who do think it will be that gets bounced from the CL (hint...look what happened to D)? I don't know the answer to this either, but I certainly don't think that Suite guests and their kids will sustain the CL, nor do I think the Concierges will like it.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree because to me this makes no sense. Both of these groups have been extended the use of the CL, so I would certainly say that the lounge is for both groups.

I do understand your point, and please don't take me the wrong way....I don't care about this issue nearly as much as it may seem here on this thread. ;) I will gladly agree to disagree. :) But look at it this way. If RCI were to build a new ship with no suites on board, would there be a CL? (I think no) On the other hand, if RCI were to build a new ship with the normal compliment of suites, but C&A perks did not exist on that particular ship, would there be a CL? (I think yes).

Royal Caribbean International

Royal Caribbean International offers the Concierge Lounge as an exclusive benefit for our guests in Grand Suites or higher category staterooms, as well as Crown & Anchor Society’s Diamond Plus- and Pinnacle- level members. Recently, we updated two Concierge Lounge policies in order to reflect the desires of our guests who have access to the lounge. Eligible guests under the age of 21 may now join their parents or guardians in the lounge after 5:00 p.m. Formerly, eligible guests under the age of 21 could accompany their parents until 5:00 p.m. Additionally, we have adjusted our dress code that previously required formal or evening attire to now include smart casual attire after 5:00 p.m.

Royal Caribbean International is dedicated to providing a pleasant and relaxing environment in the Concierge Lounge for the enjoyment of all our lounge guests. Each ship’s Concierge Staff is responsible for maintaining decorum and enforcing adherence to the lounge policies to ensure a welcoming atmosphere at all times for all of our top suite and top loyalty program-member guests. The Concierge Lounge benefit is one of the many ways that Royal Caribbean International recognizes our top suite and top loyalty program-member guests for choosing to sail with us.

It appears to apply to all guests that have access to the CL, not just suite guests. The policy change will only be an issue if the lounges become very crowded again or someone's child is disruptive and the parent/guardian does not handle with it. The first issue could be solved by creating an overflow lounge (I've seen that done on the Mariner when it was crowded). The second one is a bit trickier as the concierge will have to deal with it. If they deal with it, their tip may be at risk, if they don't, their tip may be at risk.

Thanks for posting. The Concierge is caught in the middle.

By reading most of the posts on this subject it gives one insight on why this country (USA) is destined to fail. A perk goes from a perk to a right. Forbid anyone who tries to deny a "right" of access to the CL without children. As we now are burying the "Greatest Generation" we are now left with the "Greediest Generation". Gimmee..Gimmee...Gimmee...:(

rccl says in this latest facebook posting, that the dress code after 5 pm is to include smart casual. smart casual is:

s.gif

s.gif

Q: What are the dress codes onboard? s.gif A: There are three distinct types of evenings onboard: casual, smart casual and formal. Suggested guidelines for these nights are: con_bulletgray_ico.gif Casual: Sport shirts and slacks for men, sundresses or pants for women con_bulletgray_ico.gifSmart Casual: Jackets and ties for men, dresses or pantsuits for women con_bulletgray_ico.gif Formal: Suits and ties or tuxedos for men, cocktail dresses for women

The number of smart casual and formal nights is at the ship's discretion.

Well this subject has been talked to death and if its Royal wishes to do this then I guess we have to go along with it - thank goodness we only have one out of eight future cruises booked where they may be a problem and thats our Thanksgiving one. We don't go in the lounge for the "drinks" as people say, but to socialize - my hubby doesn't drink and I have one - we have re-kindled many an old friendship in there and so enjoy it - but we shall see what happens - the only problem I can see is the limited seating in the smaller lounges - we'll find out soon enough:)

I agree with you Joe about this is the "greatest generation" and the new one is all gimme gimme gimme - wow you nailed it - so we shall see how this plays out - we go in a couple of months on the Jewel - so being the Repo cruise for two weeks, we may not encounter a problem:)

This is sort of funny with the new "dress code" since it has been our experience on all of our cruises that there is a least 3 formal nights on a longer cruise, maybe 1-2 smart casual nights with all the rest casual.

Soooooo, on a casual night you mean to tell me that men will have to put on a tie/ jacket to have a before/after dinner drink and then change to go to dinner!?? I don't think so. Now that children are being invited, they want parents to look different?

Smart Casual is the suggested dress attire in all Specialty Restaurants any night of the cruise on any ship.............but dress slacks and a collared shirt have always been acceptable also.

Gosh, but I hope they proof read that before it was posted on FB!

Cool, now I can wear smart casual ( flip flops and my bathing suit ).

I mean, if "formal or evening attire" meant shorts to some people, now "smart casual" will mean flip flops and a bathing suit! Where will it end?

Now kids are allowed? The only adult sanctuary on the ship (because even the adult pool area can be taken over by people who don't follow rules) has now changed ambiance.

And some people will say "but I pay lots of money"... well, so do I. And the ship allows children everywhere but the casino (by law, otherwise the rule breakers would be in there, too), so why is it that the parents have to complain because their kids weren't allowed in the one area (concierge lounge) that should be for adults anyway? My goodness, you have the whole ship to take your kids, and there's a babysitting program as well. THanks for ruining the time in the concierge lounge for all the adults who just wanted some adult time.

"oh, but my kids are well-behaved" you say? they might be, but they just accidentally spilled juice and pop and food all over the chair that adults might sit in. And that means the bartender now has to clean that up. So the bartender is busy taking care of your kids in the ex-adult lounge, not helping all the other adults that just came in, and the Concierge is at your side with his smile, telling you everything is OK. So the other adults are now not being serviced by the Concierge and the bartender due to your children.

I guess that's why they changed the dress code. Because if kids are allowed, who'd want to wear nice clothes, just to sit in spilled food or pop or juice.

Yeah, great.
